The Links Course At Paso Robles

Any improved fairways and I would bump it up a star. Greens like Augusta, fairways like Fort Worth. Sprayer’s paradise. You can get a bit wild off the tee but it’s wide open.
Greens are tremendous, true roll with good pace. I walked on a weekend and paid $ 40. Many of the greens are huge.
Front nine is the more flat and easier side. Back nine gets into more interesting layout and hills. A few annoying small planes buzzed nearby on the back nine, like leaf blowers.
The place needs better signage and markings, such as hole numbers, maybe some more yardage in the fairways. The fairways had that browned out, dead grass prairie quality.
It’s very decent muni golf. Don’t come here expecting to be spoiled.

This course is a good deal for the money. I was just out there, and the greens are in good shape. This course is fun to play, I find it very playable, and forgiving on bad shots. The only draw back… Is the golf pro that works there, he’s a pompous little punk. He is very arrogant, unfriendly, and can only hurt their business… Hopefully he’s not there long. He wore out his welcome at Hunter Ranch… Go Figure.

the links used to be my absolute favorite course on the central coast. I have been playing there since back when it was still «the links at vista del hombre» it was always on my «must play» list, and my absolute favorite course. BUT the last time i went changed that. They ripped out all the big bushes and raised (pretty much doubled) the rates. some people may not have liked the bushes as we found well over 25 balls a day in them, but they were part of the course. now its just a big open course. i used to ask to play here over hunter ranch. not we dont even talk about it. we had got to know all the guys in the pro shop pretty well and they were all super good guys, sucks that the course had to go through all the changes. we used to use a coupon for around $ 25 with a cart, but not anymore.

pro is a lot of parking, and rarely crowded.
but unfortunately dropped off my must play list when the course made changes.
i definitely still like this course, just a little different with the new ownership.

Keeping in mind that this is the cheaper golf course in the area and is far from a resort course, the roughness seems to be about right for the price and convenience of usually not needing a reservation. We’re also in a drought. That’s why it may feel a little like a desert or wasteland in spots. They’ve been working on repairing things now that it has new ownership, like taking out old shrubs which makes it easier to play, but I’d like to see the pot holes in the golf cart path filled in and I don’t think it’s too much to ask for the little things like towels at the ball cleaning station, which they never seem to have.
Yes, it’s dry, but all-​in-​all it works if you’re focused on some fun and not about being one point less than your average.

I’d play a lot courses on the Central Coast before The Links.

Fun course, great greens, great value, very walkable course. You won’t be disappointed. Casual atmosphere.
