Planet Fitness – Paso Robles

PFFF, now where else can you get Tanning, Massage and a great work out for $ 20 a month. nowhere, that’s where. I am a USA Boxing Trainer and finding a great gym to keep in shape at is not an easy task. I can get in, get out with no issues with these guys. The staff is excellent and keeps up with the LUG alarm.
Tons of equipment and enough to keep you busy even when its insanely busy. I wish they offered classes because I could be a great asset there, but they don’t offer them… for now.

I was a member years ago, stopped for a year or two and now I’m back. Staff is still friendly, bathrooms have been upgraded with more lockers and private shower stalls– meaning you don’t have to shower and then trek back to your locker all wet. They’ve added more lockers and a vanity area complete with hair dryers on either side of the counter.
There’s a ton of equipment, I’ve never had an issue finding a treadmill, bike or elliptical machine, even during peak hours. It’s nice they have at least 20 televisions to choose from.
For $ 10 month, you really can’t complain about anything. You can pay extra for some perks, water or «hydro» massage, massage chairs and tanning beds (didn’t know people even still used those).
The facility is always clean. I just wish there was an area for older kids, not a daycare but just a hangout spot for kids maybe 6 and older that’s safe. I also wish there were just a few group classes, it helps when you’re not the only one busting your ass.
It’s not the ritz people, it’s a gym and for what they charge, you get a lot more than most.

For a first time gym member… this place amazed me. The tour was very informative without being over the top. Lisa the manager has gone above and beyond every time I’ve been in. Best customer service I’ve experienced in a long time. The gym was super clean. Other reviews disagree but it looked immaculate to me. I signed 5 other family members up and they are equally as thrilled and impressed.

Things just keep getting better and better here. Great facility and great administration. I was a tactics (martial arts) instructor for over ten years in Paso. I worked with private security, private clients from all over the world and law enforcement. I was also civilian contractor for the Dept. of Homeland Security. This facility is all you need to get in and stay in shape. Clean, well run, friendly and cost effective.

Manager needs to be refreshed in customer service skills! This gym needs a makeover big time due to lack of customer relations. The gym is dirty and not clean at all.

They are lacking in customer service… It is not kept clean… the manager lacks the ability to explain things clearly.
There are multiple reasons I’m no longer a member.

There was a great deal to like about this place, but two things are making me think twice about it. First, they have a very nice steam room in the locker room, but it’s blocked off for what looked like cleaning. When I asked about it they said that steam rooms are against Planet Fitness’ policy. WHAT? They have a policy against having a steam room in a fitness center? The concept is as old as fitness centers. Even the young lady showing me around thought this was not smart. I decided, steam room or not to join. I went in today, backpack loaded with my gym clothes and towels and started the process. Two minutes into signing up I was asked if I had my checking account information. I asked why. There was a card reader right in front of me. Why could I not just pay with my card. «We can’t take a card,» was the reply. He then told me I could call my bank to get my checking account information. Seriously? You want me to spend a great deal of time on the phone to suite your stupid policies? I said «forget it,» and made my way for the door. They young man taking my information called after me «did no one tell you about this?» On my way out the door I retorted «No! No one told me,» and proceeded to my car. I understand that to keep costs down they would WANT to not take cards, but it is not convenient for the consumer who for whatever reason (mine is the cash rewards I get) likes to use their credit cards (convenient?). After I cool off I may re-​consider, but for now I am voting with my dollars.

This might be fine for aerobics and some of the weight area. But the weight machine under the «whirlybirds» is ridiculous! It’s like trying to life in the middle of a hurricane, paper towels whipping around, miserable for any dry eye condition or allergies… the velocity of the fans at 9 AM is unreal, especially when the outside temperature is below 60. Muscles get tight, any sweat gets cold, what are they thinking? The weight machines need to be in another area, AWAY from all those fans and blowers. For me, it’s intolerable.

I pretty much love the gym… the equipment is good and its clean… but I think they have too many elliptical and treadmills

Planet Fitness has excellent, affordable prices that really can’t be beat in this economy. The gym is spacious, clean and very cardio-​centered. The layout of the gym is aesthetically pleasing and it’s easy to find your way around. The women’s bathroom is gorgeous, but unfortunately the sauna (a feature you have to pay for) is not in current operation.
I’ve been here for about 2 months now and at first I was in love. This was the gym for me. If this gym was a person we would have been holding hands and walking on the beach. I loved it so much I looked past the flaws (like the fitness trainers here are literally the equivalent of senior activity leaders). About a month in I started to notice a few things that made me go «huh???» but I brushed them off. This was a gym. Gym’s have faults. They’re not all perfect, but it’d be really nice if they were.
At the 2 month mark I can now see the gym for what it really is: A truly judgment-​free zone. When you walk into the gym you are free of judging yourself. It helps that they have over 15 televisions to distract you from gym anxiety and self-​consciousness, but the easy-​going attitudes of the employees are as much of a perk as they are a con.
I love that they hire people who are in high school or in college because I think it’s good to give employment to the youth. However, it’s important to teach professionalism at the workplace no matter what age you are. I strongly believe that most of the staff needs to be retrained or at least take their job more seriously because the impression I get from them is that they don’t care. I have seen the water spray bottles go unfilled on busy days and nights, paper towels not being restocked, trash overflowing, smudges all over the windows, trash on the floor. What are the employees doing? Chatting, laughing, hanging out with their friends. Why do your job when you can hang out and have a chat session?
Another thing that needs to be fixed is better training by the fitness trainers. It is not mandatory to see one, but it is included in ALL of the packages. It would be great to see a fitness trainer on the floor helping out members use machines. The only time I see a trainer is when they have an appointment. I understand that Planet Fitness would probably care more if they were held liable for an injury, but it’s astounding to me just how many people use the equipment incorrectly by putting themselves at great risk. And yes, I am taking into account that some members just don’t care.

For $ 10 a month, it doesn’t get any better than that. It’s a great place to try and get in shape, which is basically what they advertise, no Lunks. If your interested in bodybuilding, then quit being a cheap ass and pay the extra money and join InShape or something. I don’t get the idiots that give a bad review to a business because they didn’t check before they joined to see exactly what that business had to offer. Too bad you can’t write a review about idiots.

Five mornings a week! Great gym for only $ 10 a month. The Paso Robles location is within walking distance from my house, which limits my excuses for not going regularly. It’s a clean facility with excellent, newer machines & weight lifting equipment. I’ve never used the tanning booths or massage devices so I can’t speak to the quality of those.

There no ego and no critics attitude is great. Lots of super machines. The staff is great and they do have trainers that are part of the monthly fee. I have not taken advantage of the trainers yet but have seen them work. Very patience and out for the best for the individual. Very clean and well maintained.
I have enjoyed my time there and have even lost a few pounds along the way.

Best gym in town, great customer service, variety of equipment, massage chair to use for free, several different tv monitors with variety of channels to watch while working out. Very good deal for only 10 a month and $ 39 fee to stay up membership, well worth it. The staff at the front desk are really nice and friendly, overall excellent customer service.

Love the new layout. Great price & its always clean. Hydro massager is a nice treat after a hard workout. $ 20 bucks… can’t beat that!

Love this gym. A lot of exercise machines so you don’t feel crowded. Friendly people at the front desk. The only down side is all the douche guys who sit in front of the mirror and look at themselves but what gym doesn’t have those type of guys?!

Planet Fitness is as good as it gets for a 10 to 20 a month gym. 10 for regular access and 20 for use of the massage chairs which are amazing, you can bring a guest, hydro massage beds which eh I don’t really see the benefit other than a bit of a butt massage, and tanning beds I guess they have updated bulbs and a standing bed. So for 20 a month the perks are def worth it. The staff is usually very friendly, helpful, and make sure the place is clean.
Now for the 2 stars rating; the weight range only goes to 75, the only free-​weights are dumbbells, there is a single pull-​up bar, only one dip stand, no weight belts, no chalk, and most of all when the owners are around they can a pain as the nit pick attire unlike all other gyms you pay for.
I have been lifting for a little over ten years and have been to maybe a over a hundred gyms this one does the job to stay fit and tone not much is there for a body builder or group activities.

I used to go to Planet Fitness for about 2 years. For 10 bucks, it was a great value. Super close to my place and staff was always friendly when I entered.
About the gym: Lots of weights, good selection of cables, plenty of treadmills, ellipticals and other running machines. Small areas to do sit-​ups and other workouts. My only complaint, need better pull-​up bar. I hate the sissy assistant pull bar apparatus. Just plain weak.
Locker room is always clean along with the showers. Plenty of lockers. Gym itself is always clean, A/​C on when hot outside. Not a big gym, no classes or pools or anything like that, but the place does the job for basic work outs. If your looking to do crossfit (not advanced workouts though), it’s doable, but you have to be at the gym when nobody is there. It does get a bit crowded from 5 – 7:30.
Kennedy is great, but expensive, however, you do get what you paid for over there. If you want something that does the job and it’s cheap, planet fitness is your place.

I signed up for Planet Fitness a couple of months ago. I got the Black Card for $ 20 a month. With the Black Card I am able to bring a guest any time i want for free. I think I also am able to get 50% off on drinks, free massage chairs, and unlimited tanning. I really only use it for the guest perk. They also do have a yearly fee of $ 39 taken out in June. Just something to consider.
The gym is opened 24 hours Monday-​Friday. Then 7 – 7 Saturday and Sunday. And the customer service is hit or miss. Some people are friendly and welcoming while others seem like they would rather not be bothered.
The gym itself does the job. There are multiple cardio machines, weight machines, and free weights. It’s not big, but like I said… it does the job. The women’s locker room is AMAZING. Super clean! There are lots of showers that have a private changing area. Which is awesome for people like me who have gotten visually scarred in the locker rooms inside 24 hr Fitness. O_​O
One thing that I found strange is that they seem to have a sauna but it is used for storage. Kind of a bummer. Also, there is no scale in the women’s locker room. I might be because of their ‘Judgement-​Free Zone’ motto, but it’s kind of a pain. :-/​
Overall, Planet Fitness is a good gym. There aren’t a lot of extras, like classes or pools but it’s good if you’re just looking for a place to break a sweat. :)
