Hearthstone Vineyard and Winery

We love this place. The wines are excellent and the setting is serene. We enjoyed playing bocce ball looking out on the rolling hills.

Went up to hearthstone during harvest wine weekend and what a popular spot! With good wines all around and a nice patio area it was the perfect place to stop for a tasting flight. We had a chance to talk with the winemaker, who was actually pouring for us too! Will be back :)

Took the tour and Josslyn was a wealth of information, and we enjoyed it immensely. Renee was also very knowledgeable and friendly. She poured us some amazing wines. I would definitely go back, next time we visit Paso.

This was our second visit to Hearthstone and we were very glad we stopped by again. Renee was very helpful and welcoming. The wines are all great! My favorite this time around was their Claret. The tasting fee is waived with the purchase of a bottle.

We like the wines. Renee a pourer, is very knowledgable. Josslyn the manager is very helpful. On specific dates, lamb burgers are served, for about 10 dollars. This is the best lamb burger we have ever tasted. The delicious lamb is from a local ranch and the flavorings & special sauce are a perfect combination!

I wanted to keep this winery a secret, but a great thing has to be shared… Hearthstone is a benchmark. While benchmark has several definitions, hearthstone sets the tone to wine making and is unique in the region. Paso Robles is the only area in the US that is similar to Tuscany as far as soil, climate, and topography. Hearthstone sets the tone in quality of wines that cannot be matched in any of the wineries in the areas. It seems as though other wineries have issues with controlling acidity, or they produce mid level wines that are overpriced. One of the reasons is that they buy the grape outside of the estate sometimes from a different region and bottle whatever comes out for profit. In comparison, hearthstone hand crafted estate grown wines are an artistic expression of winemaking in its best. The passion for excellence and love of wine can be tasted. The wine is complex, rich, and multi layered. I drink the wine slowly, almost chow it, since it provides a multiple sensation of flavors and I want to enjoy each of them. They make anywhere from 100 — 200 cases each year for each of the brands, since the vision is quality and not mass production. Most of the wines they produce are in my top favorite list. My wine collection includes 90% hearthstone. We come to the area twice a year and stop only there. In the past we used to go to other wineries — only to be disappointed. Their wine truly reminds me what life is all about.
Joslin and Renee are incredible, the hospitality is great and the surrounding is magnificent.
If you know wine or not, you will not be disappointed.

Long story short: a must if you are in paso Robles or anywhere nearby. Long story: I go on an annual wine tasting trip with my closest friends and family (ranges from 40 – 50 of us per year) where we visit 3 – 5 wineries. As much as I enjoy finding different wineries to go to, Hearthstone is always a staple and normally the first place we go. Why? The staff is courteous and knowledgable about their wine (not always the case with other wineries). I enjoy the wine and the atmosphere so much that I go there to do a tasting with my SO the day before We go there with the big group. They are passionate about their wine and it shows; Pearl is my favorite. If you are in paso Robles and looking for a relaxed atmosphere, delicious wine at a fabulous price point, then look no further than Hearthstone.

I love this winery and visit every time I go to the Central Coast! I have been a wine club member for a couple of years and we do an annual wine tasting for a large group (40) every February for my birthday. I try to find new places to visit each year but it is hard for some of the smaller tasting rooms to accommodate our growing numbers. I asked Hearthstone if they would be able to host us as I knew the group would love the wine. Renee, Josslyn and Paul went out of the way to make this an amazing visit! They closed the tasting room in the morning just for our group, let us bring in our own food and I was able to select wines we wanted to taste ahead of time. Everyone raved that this was the BEST wine and atmosphere of the whole day. A few even joined the wine club as I knew people would no doubt enjoy the wine. I can’t thank them enough for being so GREAT! My favorite wines from this visit were the 2009 Mourvedre, 2011 Primate and 2010 Bruno Di Paso (100% Brunello Sangiovese). I even ordered a case. THANK YOU AGAIN HEARTHSTONE FOR BEING SO WONDERFUL!

Just had a friend and fam gathering at Hearthstone. The staff and wines were wonderful!!! If you are in the Paso area-it’s a must.

The location is terrific and Hearthstone is surrounded by several first class wineries.
Our experience was okay at best. While several of the wines were good, the single staff person was bored and/​or indifferent.
We bought a bottle but with some reluctance based on mediocre service.

The wine was ok, but the service was kind of lazy. The employees were on their phones half the time and not interested in talking about the wine.

Very impressive – don’t miss it! Comfortable tasting room and personable, knowledgeable staff. The wines they’re showing are older and more refined than the other wineries we visited. Excellent examples of pinot noir, zinfandel, rhone blend, syrah, and bordeaux blend. Reasonable prices. What do you want? Highly recommended.

Simple, rustic, and beautiful, Hearthstone was our first encounter of wineries in Paso Robles. Hearthstone made a great first and lasting impression with the staff’s friendly service and attentiveness. I began my tasting with the Pearl, part Roussane and Viognier. A light, crisp, and floral white perfect for warm summery days. I also tried the Grenache which was rich and jammy. Profundo, as it is called, is strong in all that is great about Cab Sauv. Cab Franc, Syrah, and Sangiovese. It is so good that we purchased two bottles of this memorable red wine. While interestingly named Primate (not sure why), the Zinfandel and Petit Syrah blend makes for a perfect wine with grilled meats. Serene and perfectly picturesque for a calendar, Hearthstone Estate was a great Paso Robles discovery. We will be sure to return back.

This was the most memorable of our 6 stops in the paso area last weekend. For the last 3 years wife and I have been looking for the right wine club to join. After visits to wineries in napa and paso, this was, without question «the one». The staff was very friendly and knowledgable. The thing that solidified our decision was that their wines were great across the spectrum. We started with the «Pearl» and finished with the «Fireside Claret», not many places have great whites and reds across the board. It was so hard to pick which bottles we wanted to take home so the logical choice was to join their wine club! — problem
solved.

— Staff: the girl in the tasting room was very personable, welcoming, and passionate about wine. Made it a casual, pleasant tasting experience.
— White wine: creamy and a unique combo Viognier blend I enjoyed a lot
— Reds: had a hard time deciding which to take home but went with a pinot and zin
— Nice view: up on the hill with horses right next door
— Festive decorated tasting room: complete with tree cleverly covered in award medals as ornaments
— Outdoor area: small patio area with a fantastic view
Lowlights:
— Seemed like smaller pours than others, but probably for the best since we made multiple stops
My favorite winery of the day and I’d be happy to return.

Bring a picnic for lunch to Hearthstone, since there are many great picnic tables outside in the shade. Renee, our tasting room attendant, was so nice and welcoming to our large party — she even tried to remember all of our names! She also told us that if we came back, we could go on a vineyard tour to learn about grafting vines. The tasting room itself is small and very relaxed, but received rave reviews all around from our group.
Must try wines: Pearl, and the Pinot Noir from their wine club… if you can!

They grow everything that they put in their bottles; it’s not outsourced like other wineries =)

One of my favorite tastings during this trip to Paso Robles. The tasting room is located on a hillside and has a beautiful view. I love the large wooden doors on the tasting room, it looks and feels like a tasting room. The tasting room itself is not real large, but we had the place to ourselves, which made for a nice tasting.
The tasting is $ 10 for 6 tastings, waved with the purchase of a bottle. We tasted the following:
2010 Pearl — a Rousanne Viognier blend, only one I didn’t care for
2010 Pinot Noir — my favorite, we ended up buying a bottle
2009 Grenache — good
2009 Mourvèdre — ok, but I’m not a fan of 100% Mourvèdre
2009 Syrah — good, but not my favorite Syrah from the area
2009 Cabernet Sauvingon Reserve — surprisingly good
The tasting room staff is great. We had a nice conversation about pairing wine and cheese, and they ended up recommending a cheese shop in Paso Robles named Vivant.
Hearthstone is on my revisit list.

While exploring the vineyards on the west side of Paso Robles, my mother and I found ourselves at Hearthstone. There we were greeted by our server, Bob, he was SUPER! He was friendly, personable, knowledgeable, and thoroughly seemed to enjoy his job. We decided to split the $ 10 for 6 wine tasting (comped if you buy a wine like us). Bob was nice enough to give us two more not on the list because he noticed how much we liked the listed Pearl.

We fell in love with their Pearls, and walked away with a one. Our favorite was the Pear Delight, but the 2010 and 2009 Pearls followed close behind respectively. They were sweet, fruity, and buttery. (Well that is what I got, but again I’m no expert)
We left here with a wonderful experience and wine in hand! If decide to try them out I’m almost positive you will have the same experience.
