Specialties

We provide a designated wine driver for custom wine tours, utilizing the clients own vehicle. We provide a gourmet cheese basket, ice water and a CD photo album of the tour.

History

Established in 2013.

I have several friends in the wine industry, including owners, managers and employees. I have done Luau pigs for the wineries, including most recently a Luau at Cinquain Cellars for 200+ guests. The food at this event was incredible, the wines were wonderful and poured liberally.

Over time as I’ve attended and put on these events, I’ve become aware that some guests at these events need transportation home. Wine tasting has a way of sneaking up on people, especially after three or four wineries or attending a big event like the one I just described at Cinquain Cellars.

At the suggestion of friends in the industry I decided to start the Designated Wine Driver. This allows people to enjoy the tour without maps, with the people they choose, at their own pace, and return safely to their hotel or home.

Business Owner

Bob Barker graduated from San Jose State University in 1967. He received a B.A. in Industrial Arts (Electronics) and a minor in Physical Science (chemistry). Bob was awarded a lifetime teaching credential for grades K through 12 in 1968. During the period from 1980 thru 1990 he worked for himself in the construction business, developing custom home pads and building spec homes.

Although Bob is semi-​retired, he likes to stay involved. He is a self motivated, dependable individual who enjoys people and finds himself fascinated with the wine industry. Bob is very familiar with the wineries, the area in general and loves when people enjoy a great wine tasting experience.

I almost never write reviews (although I always think about it!) but I had to do this one!. we had the pleasure to have Michael drive us for a Girls Getaway Weekend in Paso Robles and it was the best decision we ever made!. Michael was incredible! he was super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the wineries, we had plan the wineries we were visiting but it took a little bit longer than expected and we were not going to make it to the last winery planned since it was closing time =(… (ok ok, we were having toooo much fun!!) but he recommended us one that closed later and it was a really good suggestion!. hands down don’t even think about it. get the Designated Wine Driver service and ask for Michael! he is AWESOME!!!

Bob is the best! He took myself & 2 friends to four wineries in Paso and he did not disappoint. The snack packs included some tasty treats and were much needed by the third winery. The last stop at Hansen Winery was the perfect way to end the day! Bob was super easy to coordinate with and he tolerated our terrible music all day without a single complaint. Thanks for the laughs Bob! You will be seeing us again (whether you like it or not!). Bob is the best!!!

We decided to visit Paso Robles for our anniversary. We planned our trip at the last minute. Bob was very accommodating. He arrived on time and took us to some great wineries. He is very personable and super knowledgable about the area. He provided one of our best wine tasting experiences! I would recommend him to anyone wine tasting in Paso Robles!

I came to paso to do wine tasting with some friends for my 28th birthday and somehow stumbled across this company while researching the trip, and I am SO glad I did! Bob was our driver and he was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. If you’re debating whether to use them, I say you’re crazy if you don’t. It was leaps and bounds above using a limo or car service because bob knows the area well and has excellent recommendations. He made my birthday very memorable, and I will absolutely be using this company in the future and recommending them to all of my family and friends. Thank you bob!!!

100% the best decision we made on our trip to Paso Robles! Bob and his wife Carol were the best hosts we could ask for and MORE! I asked for a tall order-​please help me have an adult wine tasting experience that was family friendly. My 10 and 12 year old tagged along and I had a low expectation of success. My kids are great but wine tasting is not how they spend their days! Bob took us to some of the best wineries in the area. Because he is such an insider, we were able to include the kids without guilt or incident. Wineries allowed our kids to chalk their patios, wander the vineyards and best of all, enjoy the snack pack Bob and Carol provided! Delish! I cannot thank this business enough for allowing me to enjoy a passion for wine while showing my kids it is NOT OK to drink and drive, wine country is beautiful, and wine is an accessible art form. We all benefited from Bob’s knowledge of the area, the wine trails, local lore and quality wine tasting. Normally I would say the best part was not getting a DUI, but I would add that it was also great luck to hire Bob as a driver. Thanks Designated Wine Driver!

My group of 6 had the pleasure of being driven around by Bob and his wife Carol. It was the first time using a service like this, and it certainly will not be the last. Bob and Carol picked us up right on time, and even had brought a cheese and meat plate for us to enjoy at one of the wineries. We never felt pressured to hurry along, and he even took photos for us (which he burned on a CD and left for us the next morning). It was the right pace and energy for exploring wineries in Paso Robles. I would highly recommend using Bob for your wine adventures. Have fun!

Could not be more happy with this service. We had Michael, who was truly fun, pleasant, and completely open to whatever we wanted to do. He provided excellent recommendations while letting us make the decisions.
Not to mention, snacks and bottles of water were provided, and all of this was organized hours before we wanted to head out on a holiday weekend!

Omg! We had Beth drive us this past weekend. She was amazing, it was absolutely the best service ever and I am so happy we found her. It was a busy weekend in Paso and she made sure she knew where to take us. We were having a girls bestie weekend and Beth got to know us immediately and she chose such great places to take us, since we had never been to the area. Michael made our day relaxing and stress free. He knows the windy narrow roads in the Paso Robles west side where we enjoyed some boutique wineries. He helped us choose our visits and introduced us to the wine hosts and even a special hilltop tasting with Jeff, the wine maker at Croads Vineyard. I recommend using this service when wine tasting. Ask for Michael you won’t be disappointed.

Michael was not only our driver but our guide as well. We had a plan and Michael was more the willing to do our plan but he also made some very good recommendations. He assisted with our every need, he also provided a wonderful snack lunch, introduced us to each winery team when we arrived, and made sure the car was cool when we returned

You will not regret having Bob take you around Paso Robles to taste some great wine and see some beautiful scenery (all in the comfort of your own car!)
Leading up to our trip Bob was available by phone and worked with us to form a plan for the day. He took into account our wish list of wineries and suggested a few that were not on our list. Bob met us in the lobby of our hotel at the agreed upon time and we finalized our plan including a few stops that Bob had suggested. If you plan ahead, he may be able to get you appointments at certain places that are not open to the public for tasting.
Bob’s driving was safe and his knowledge of the area was extensive. He knows many of the people at the wineries but will give you as much time and space as you would like throughout the day. We were able to visit a few places we would have not been able to without him which greatly added to the experience; there is nothing like having an insider showing you around.
I would certainly recommend Bob to my friends and will surely call him the next time I am visiting Paso Robles. Thanks again, Bob.

I had bob drive us this past month in February. He was great! He is an expert in wine and all self taught. He has great connections and makes excellent recommendations based on your tastes. He knows the best spots with the views. He is a great guide and you never feel rushed or pressured to go anywhere you don’t want to go… We had such a great time we booked him again for the Zin fest in March. He has been an all star! He was able to source us reservations at Denner, and a private tasting with some world-​renown winemakers. What else could anyone ask for?! All this in the comfort of our own vehicle! We even arranged for him to drop us off for an evening party at a local winery and to pick us up after a few hours to return us to our hotel. Talk about amazing service. He is willing to work with you on every aspect of your trip!!! Book a trip with him. Trust me and every other 5 star review he has. You won’t be disappointed !!

A group of us were meeting up in Paso for a wine tasting weekend, so I immediately looked to Unilocal to find a DD. Designated Wine Drive received great reviews and after talking to Bob Barker I knew it would be a great fit for what our group needed.
Beth was our driver this last weekend and she probably knew she would have her hands full after meeting all of us.
She did an EXCELLENT job driving us around to the wineries we had selected, as well as, recommending some we had not thought of trying before. Beth brought along some yummy snacks for us to enjoy and ice cold water that was much needed after the third winery. She made it very easy for us to get in and out of each winery making sure we were being taken care of and had all of our purchases before leaving. We never felt rushed and were all very relaxed knowing that we were in good hands with Beth at the wheel.
The day after our trip, Beth came by and dropped off a CD that had all of the pictures she had taken throughout the day. She captured some great candid and posed shots that were so much fun to look at and share with our group. Thank you Beth for making our day so memorable and FUN! We would recommend you anytime and hope to see you again on our next visit.

My wife and I had the pleasure of having Bob drive us around on Jan 3rd. It was an awesome experience.
We have traveled the area a few times before by ourselves but this time we wanted to enjoy the trip by not having to take turns on who was going to drive. Prior to our trip Bob asked which wineries we had visited in the past and which we would like to see this time around. We left our options up to Bob and were not disappointed! He was so easy to be around and to talk to. We never felt rushed or compelled to purchase any wine we did not like. Although we had breakfast prior to wine tasting Bob came with snacks and water which came helpful after we visited the 3rd winery.
One great thing that Bob also does is takes pictures of us while we visit every winery, which is great because we always tend to take pictures of ourselves or hesitate.
We will be definitely using his service again in the future!

A group of us went to Paso Robles for the weekend and decided to rent a minivan. One of our friends found Designated Wine Drivers to take us around and we are all so glad he did!
Our driver was Scott and he was so great! He was so laid back, safe driver and a true gentleman. He was so prepared, very knowledgeable of the area and the wineries. At one of the wineries he ordered a cheese plate with other goodies from a tasty little Italian deli. It was really nice. He always right there packing the car with the wine bottles we purchased, getting us water and making sure he was right there when we were ready to go. It was so easy to be ourselves around him. If you want to enjoy wine tasting without having to worry about a DD, I highly recommend Designated Wine Drivers. I would give them 6 stars if I could! Thanks Scott!
