I was very happy with my home inspection from Jim Douglass. Thoroughness was my priority, and I interviewed other inspectors, who generally would budget about 1.5 hours for one person at the property. For the same price, Jim came with his partner and they spent more than 3 and a half busy hours going over every inch of the property inside/​outside, testing all appliances, faucets, outlets, crawling the basement and inspecting the roof.
The industry trend is to offer shorter reports with more photos, but JIm’s report was an easy-​to-​read checklist with bullet points for each item that ‘needs attention’ or was ‘not acceptable’. He is so thorough that this kind of list distills a lot of information and is really great. He offered to include photos, but I was on-​site taking photos of the most important issues and that worked fine for me.
I liked that he did not try to make mountains out of molehills. My property was in good shape and Jim’s thorough report reflected that, This just-​the-​facts approach is best for both the buyer and seller.

Jim was referred to me by my realtor and I won’t lie; i was suspicious. My realtor claimed Jim was excellent and also a licensed contractor. I needed a home inspection the next day so Mr Douglass came out on a Saturday.
He came ready to work and began inspecting every single item in the house; ran the dishwasher, washer/​dryer, water, stove/​oven, everything. Then he went under the house and on the roof and I followed. He would point out problems and tell me if it was a big deal or not, and how much it would cost to fix it.
At the end he handed me the report with written details on the inner workings of the house. He WAS great. And being a licensed contractor made him stupendous resource.
