I contacted MJ Home Services about some water damage in my attic. They came out and did a thorough inspection of my attic and roof. Because of the attic leaks and overall condition of my roof, I decided to go ahead with a roof replacement. Melissa had an estimate to me in no time, and we agreed to move forward. Their estimate was clear, concise and very reasonable. Unfortunately, my financing fell through at the last minute, so I was unable to have the work done at this time. Melissa was incredibly kind and understanding about my predicament. I’m basing this review on the professionalism, communication and affordability of MJ Home Services, and I will not hesitate to use them in the future.

My aunt was experiencing some issues with some mold and water damage in her basement. One of my cousin’s neighbors had a positive experience with MJ Home Services so we decided to try them as well. I have to say that from the initial phone consultation to when they serviced her home, we enjoyed nothing but professionalism. We were told what to expect but the guy who came to her home was so detailed-​oriented and thorough during the entire initial inspection.
My aunt usually gets nervous when working with contractors, but not this time. It is rare to find companies that exude a high level of customer service along with an incredible work ethic but that’s exactly what we received. The guy even gave us plenty of extra information in case we had any more issues or challenges and told us not to hesitate to call if we saw any other recurring issues, which he assured us that we shouldn’t (and we didn’t).
More than anything, MJ Home Services relieved our anxieties regarding the condition of her basement and the peace of mind that the job had been completed perfectly. Their prices are very reasonable and we will definitely call them again.

Overall I was very happy with the work they did. When things went wrong they made the right. I would recommend them in a heartbeat. Very reasonable prices too!

We had a ceiling leak in a back room and a fair amount of damage had occurred before we even noticed it. After reading reviews for roofers on Unilocal,we contacted MJ Home Services. They promptly sent someone out to assess the damage and soon afterwards we received a quote via email. Frankly, the amount was more than I anticipated but after talking with some people I realized the quote was actually quite reasonable.
When the workers arrived they were very polite and explained everything that they were doing. The business owners, Melissa and John, stopped by to see how the work was progressing. I wasn’t home but my wife was very impressed with them. I did get to meet Melissa during a later visit and thoroughly enjoyed talking with her.
The work was completed, the guys cleaned up after themselves and we couldn’t be happier. I would not hesitate to recommend MJ to any family or friends requiring roofing or damage restoration. They are outstanding.

John performed a thorough inspection of our roof and foundation. Unlike most contractors, John took the time to explain and show me what he was looking for.
My initial two appointments were not honored, which I later found out was due to unforeseen circumstances and a busy schedule. John’s wife Melissa went above and beyond to make sure the third appointment was honored. She even followed up after the inspection to ask if I was satisfied.
All-​in-​all, this is an honest company which takes pride in customer service.

Started off and ended with great customer service. Came and gave me a full estimate, then worked within my budget. Installed a French drain, new drainage system, and repaired major cracks that poured water into my outside basement stairwell.
The work has improved my situation and already prevented a lot of water that use to pool at my basement door, waiting to come in if the weather was bad enough. I will check back in on my review as time passes just to let you know how it holds up.
Major point of comfort, with all the snow causing the work to be pushed back because of frozen ground, they kept in contact with me twice a week to let me know I wasn’t forgotten about and kept me up to date.
I would definitely recommend you to go with them.

MJ Home Services recoated my roof and I am very happy w/​the work they performed. Communication was excellent & professional. Responsiveness was great from Devan & the crew. The cost was $ 7,400 (includes silver roof coating, mold treatment, drywall removal, and disassembly & reassembly of the rooftop deck), which I think was reasonable. Overall I was very pleased.
However, less than 18 hours after the work was completed, I received a phone call from John basically trying to strong arm me into paying the final installment and accusing me of «jerking him around». I was driving to work & couldn’t pay until lunchtime, which he said was unacceptable. I don’t think I’ve ever felt more insulated by a business, which is very surprising since I was extremely impressed by MJ Services up until that point. I pay my bills and he had no reason to assume I wouldn’t have paid on time, so the assumption that I wouldn’t just because other people may not have is uncalled for. I’m not sure what John’s role is, but I would recommend that he show some professionalism if he wants to keep his customers. Unfortunately, I think he’s turned me off of this business in the future.

This company is great! My gutters, siding, and roof needed some repair work as part of an agreement for sale. The job is complicated because the bump out on my rowhouse only allows about a foot of clearance to do most of the work.
John came out and assessed the situation on New Year’s Eve. He has an amazing spirit, and he made me feel completely comfortable with him AND then also gave me the best estimate. His wife Melissa was also great — prompt with paperwork and checking in via text and email about my decision, next steps, the work.
They were able to start the work quickly after the estimate since my timeline was tight. It took a half a day more than anticipated, but they kept me informed and did a great job. They cleaned up everything outside (and even swept my floors inside). They guaranteed work for the new buyers which is great.
In short, they were a blessing and highly recommended!

I have had a damp corner in my basement and my tenants alerted me to the fact that there was some mold appearing. I had been using a handyman to bandaid the situation for a while and hadn’t heard anything from my tenants, figuring No News=Good News.
My situation was not an emergency, but the MJ crew got right on it, removed the mold, and seemingly fixed the problem where the water was coming in. They responded quickly, came out in speedy fashion, and the work seems like it was very well done.
I highly recommend their services.

I bought my home in Baltimore City back in January, and had been noticing some minor issues creeping up. When the ceiling started dripping after a big storm, I turned to Unilocal to find a company that would be able to assist with water damage, and I’m glad it pointed me to MJ Home Services. They were extremely quick to respond when I reached out, and had someone come and look at my house within a week. They had a contract drawn up the following week, and were more than willing to be flexible with me as I coordinated other home repairs that needed to be done, changing the contract as necessary. The work they completed was done in one day, and they even weeded my back patio while doing some work back there. I hope not to have further water damage, but will absolutely utilize MJ Home Services again if I do. Thanks!

I had mold remediation and French drains installed. This is an authentic Christian company based on high value and standards. I didn’t get other estimates. I knew that John gave me a price that could not be beat. The work is clean and neat. The guys are friendly and polite. The owners, Melissa and John, have been a blessing.

Had some minor water damage in our basement following a big storm. Since we had sold our house, it looked bad during the initial inspection. Found MJ Home just through a google search and they were very quick to respond. John came out within a day or two, quickly assessed the situation and told us an estimate. They came out less than a week later and were on time (early actually) cleaned up after themeselves and MOST importantly, fixed the problem.
There are not enough businesses like this still around, please use them for any water/​mold issues, you won’t regret it!

This type of work is never a happy experience. This company is willing to do their best and work with you on payment options. I felt they were honest and upfront with the charges. I love electronic payment options and prompt email correspondence. Despite the recent storms and obvious busy times, they still worked quickly. I went with them based on their positive reviews. I couldn’t afford the entire job, but they helped make it happen. I recommend you give them a chance. Hopefully I can have them back to work on another section of my home on Moore Ave in Baltimore.

We’d rented a home near Baltimore when I got transferred for work. A few months in, the sump pump failed and our basement got filled with water. We contacted a few places, and MJ was the one who could come out the soonest. They extracted the water, treated the affected areas, and removed the carpet/​padding. They also left fans overnight to help dry everything.
Quick and professional, I would definitely recommend.

«First of all let me say that I was so unaware of how expensive this «mold removal» stuff is. I though when I started this process that is might be a few hundred dollars and try more like a few thousand. The rep from MJ Home Services was very informative on what the damage was from the flood we had previously had. I was overall happy with the inspection but unfortunately I am not able to get any work done at this time. It is not within my budget but hopefully I can get the funds together in the near future and I would definitely be calling MJ Home Services back. Great job with the inspection.

So I went into business with my mom on buying a couple of houses and renting them out. The rental property in the Baltimore area was having issues with flooding in the basement. I had to have someone pull the carpet up and check for mold etc. I searched for different carpet cleaning companies and asked friends. MJ Home Services were highly recommended so I jumped on hiring them. My Tenants said they were on time, very professional and did a great job. John was great. The best contractor I have worked with thus far. He informed me of the issues, and explained what I needed to do to prevent further problems. He was very informative and helpful which was nice since I couldn’t be there. They worked around my tenants in repairing and were affordable. Such a great company to hire. Thumbs up!

I have a couple of mixed emotions. Overall I was quite happy with the job MJ Home Services did. Let me first say the job that Mike did was great – the carpet looks excellent.
The only issue was that I was told on the phone that the price was $ 25 a room. That’s a great price, and was why I chose them. However, when the technician got there (in his unmarked Lexus), the price ended up being $ 195 for my two small carpeted rooms (after bargaining down from $ 330). Basically, it was $ 25 a room for a «once-​over» cleaning (surface level). It doubled the price for a «deep cleaning» (plus about a million other options… teflon coating, disinfecting, etc.). I wish I had been told this in advance.
Most frustratingly, I was told that if I actually wanted the carpet clean all the way to the baseboards, it would cost an extra $ 2 per linear foot for a scrubbing fee, which basically was an extra $ 140. My question is, who DOESN’T want the whole carpet cleaned? «Yes sir, please leave a gross gray dust line around the edge… That’s how I like it!»
If I had been told the price in advance, I would have been much happier. As it was, it felt more like dealing with a car salesman, and was a little uncomfortable because I really didn’t know what I was doing. («cash only, please.» «how much CAN you afford?» «I’ll lower it to this price, and if you want to throw in a cash tip, that would be great.»)
The whole experience would have been much better and felt less shady if I had known exactly what I was paying for up front. Not fun to be quoted a price of $ 50 and then be told it was $ 330 (after the super heavy machine was already hauled up two flights of stairs – clever!), only to have to haggle.

Very friendly technicians! They were polite and worked pretty quickly. My microfiber sectional looks great. I was very pleased with this company… I even signed up for the 3 year service contract!

Hey, Whoa! Some of the reviews here had me on edge. The only reason I contacted this company in the first place was because of the way the owner, Melissa, has responded to some of the negative reviews she has gotten. I see nothing but professionalism and care for her customers in writing and received nothing less than that when communicating with her over the phone.
I told her my schedule was flexible but we made an appointment and she even called me to see if I wanted them done earlier because a spot opened up (knowing I had a holiday party to prepare for this weekend). I couldn’t take the opening but was impressed they remembered that I was flexible. I was also contacted ½ an hour before the crew arrived to make me aware that they were en route.
To the juicy stuff! I’m not going to sugar coat it, my carpets are horrendous! I have no clue how to clean or maintain berber carpet on my own. My couch is a whole different monster… I’ll just say I have kids and everything gross that could possibly happen on that couch has happened. I didn’t even want to sit on it anymore because it was sticky, stained, smelled, and looked filthy! Today I am happy and honestly a bit shocked to say that my couch and carpets have NEVER looked cleaner. My carpets look cleaner than when I moved in 3 years ago!
They have amazing specials but this company works with your budget. My technician, John even looked concerned when I over paid him (they did a heck of a job) saying that he didn’t want to make my budget too tight around the holidays! Lets talk more about John. He was so qualified. I was enthralled with his passion for helping people and doing what he obviously loves. He explained to me the proper way to clean my carpets so I didn’t end up with residual staining or dark spots from cleaners. He even moved my couch, cleaned out all the billions of toys from under it and shampooed this area as well. I’ve never ever… ever encountered a technician that serviced my home with the professionalism and knowledge that he exhibited. He and his helper laid down towels and floor protectors to protect against damage from hoses and water and his helper walked around wiping up any spots of water that may have dripped from the hose during the cleaning from my hard wood. Call me impressed!
I know this is getting long but I did sneakily ask him about his machinery because I read somewhere they used out of date equipment. His equipment was state of the art looking, very compact, and surprisingly not as noisy as I expected.
If those reasons aren’t enough to get you to choose this company, ponder this. I was told that MJ services donates 40% of their profits to charity. They believe in real life karma. Being selfless and good to others and having it come full circle. I would rather patronize a company that does good than one who does not.
Bottom line: My couch and carpets are immaculate, the price was super affordable, the company was kind and professional and I will be a repeat customer for years to come.
