Marilyn A Mehlmauer, MD

Six years ago I used to be a patient of Dr. Mehlmauer, and returned the other day now that she is accepting my current insurance. As a health care provider myself, I seek an individual who has a heart, is a human being, and shows caring. These are essential traits, by my reckoning, because I believe the compassion shown reflects and reveals a superior inner personal value system and conscience that compels the doctor to give their best effort for the patient.
Dr. Mehlmauer was prompt, friendly, informative, and obviously very enthusiastic about her career and the exciting advancements in dermatology. I appreciated her personal interest, attention and non-​condescending approach when discussing pertinent medical aspects. After presenting my options, she very skillfully excised two suspect lesions from my face, one of which was on my nose.
As a dentist, I am very familiar with giving injections to my patients, and could feel in her hands the confidence, delicacy, and deliberate hand movements that I know take years of experience to develop. Dr. Mehmauer administered the anesthetic injection in my nose with great gentleness and exceeded my expectations in that there was no discomfort.
After leaving the office, I reflected upon the fact that my visit had actually been enjoyable, that we had talked and reconnected in a very positive way, and that I was glad to be back in her care once again.

A couple weeks ago I woke up with a really itchy, red rash all over my hands, legs and feet. I saw numerous doctors and no one seemed to know what was causing it. My PCP told me to see a dermatologist immediately. I called about ten offices who all said they wouldn’t squeeze me in even though it was an emergency. Dr. Mehlmauer’s office was the only one who agreed to see me that day. They let me come at the end of the day when their office was supposed to close and Dr. Mehlmauer stayed late to take care of me. She spent tons of time with me and was very thorough. She personally called me a day later to talk about some thoughts she had while we were waiting to get test results back and even gave me a number where I could reach her over the holiday weekend if I needed anything. When the results showed it was an allergic reaction to a medicine I was taking, the office called me immediately and again squeezed me in that day to see Dr. Mehlmauer.
Both visits with Dr. Mehlmauer were wonderful. I never waited more than 5 minutes and felt totally taken care of. She has such a wonderful, positive energy and there is no doubt she absolutely loves what she does. All of the office staff were incredible too. Every single person I came in contact with was so personable and friendly. Pauline, Annie and Vivianna (I think) were all so helpful and sweet. Truly the best dermatologist I have been to.

I made an appointment with Dr. Saghari. When I arrived, I was surprised that they put me with Dr. Mehlmauer. It turned out to be a happy mistake, however, because I found Dr. Mehlmauer to be warm, caring, and knowledgable. I was two weeks away from my wedding day, and she prescribed Mirvaso to help with my mild rosacea. Mirvaso took away the redness so well I couldn’t believe it. But when I started reading about it online, I became concerned. It seems that MANY people experience «rebound redness,» a horrible, uncontrollable beet-​red flushing. Not a good look for the wedding day. Concerned, I called the office to ask Dr. Mehlmauer what she thought. The woman at the front desk refused to even leave a message, saying that the doctor does not do phone consultations. And even though I saw her less than a week earlier, I would have to make another appointment if I wanted to ask her a simple question about the medication she prescribed! With little time before my wedding, I decided to stop using Mirvaso until after the big day.
A few weeks after the wedding, I had been using Mirvaso regularly. But then, my husband and I decided to try to get pregnant. I wasn’t sure if it was safe to continue using Mirvaso. I hoped that since Dr. Mehlmauer seemed so wonderful, perhaps I was misinformed about her not speaking to patients on the phone. I called with my question. A different woman at the front desk told me, «It should be fine to keep using it while you’re trying to get pregnant. It’s just a topical.» Are you kidding me??? Has she ever heard of the dangers of using Retin-​A while pregnant??? How irresponsible to give an UNINFORMED answer to this question. Again, I asked to speak to the doctor. This time, I was told she would return my call. Well, she didn’t. Her assistant returned my call only after I left another message the following week. The assistant said it should be fine to continue use. When I asked to speak to the doctor, she began to grill me about the specific questions I was going to ask. I have NEVER had a doctor who was unwilling to speak to her patients about a simple question re: a prescription. At that point, I told the assistant about my frustration and said that perhaps Dr. Mehlmauer was not the right doctor for me. The assistant agreed and hung up. I was extremely disappointed because I really liked Dr. Mehlmauer.
I went to a different dermatologist soon thereafter, and she explained to me that Mirvaso is a category B drug, meaning it’s uncertain whether or not it could harm a fetus. Good information to know. Unfortunately, Dr. Mehlmauer didn’t have the time to tell me that.

I’ve seen Dr. Mehlmauer for over 10 years for various things and she is amazing. She is smart, sharp, to the point, and extremely capable. I have also visited Joy for laser work and her no nonsense attitude and personal experience which she shares are very calming and relaxing. All in all a first rate team all the way around.

I’ve been working with Dr Mehlmauer and Joy for over two years to improve my aging skin and address some pre-​cancerous spots on my face. I’ve had pixel, fraxel and affirm treatments and see great improvements in my face (ESPECIALLY after the pixel). Age spots disappeared and wrinkles near my eyes, around my mouth and in my cheeks were minimized. At 47, I feel the series of treatments took 5 – 8 years off the appearance of my aging skin. I had no side effects, other than the initial discomforts disclosed, especially with respect to the pixel treatment. That one definitely needs a little time between treatment and going back to work. For the affirm and fraxel, a weekend between was all I needed to return to work. I am adverse to plastic surgery and appreciate the non-​surgical options that Dr Mehlmauer and Joy offer me.

This review is for Joy, the laser specialist. What a joy she is indeed! Rather than dreading them, I actually look forward to my bikini laser hair removal appointments because of Joy. She is always friendly, professional, and genuinely concerned that I am comfortable and happy with the job. It is also practically painless. She always explains what she’s doing, what ointments she’s applying, what laser she’s using, etc. They are usually running on-​time and they don’t seem to over-​schedule.

The only reason I’m not giving this place 5 stars is that you have to pay for parking and they don’t validate ($ 1 every 15 minutes I think).

This review is for Annie the esthetician. I love her! She knows what she is doing and what she is saying. My overall skin condition has improved greatly to the point people compliment me on it. I still have hormonal breakouts but going to Annie every 2 months keeps me looking good.
