Foothill Smog and Auto Repair was established in September of 1998 by owner Avo Pashayan. We are a certified auto repair and smog check station. The shop is certified by ASE (Automotive Service Excellence)

We provide high quality auto repair and service on import and domestic cars. Our work is guaranteed for 12 months or 12 000 miles. We have over 37 years combined experience in the field. Our goal is to provide and maintain honest and professional service at an affordable price.

By far the cleanest, most professional, accommodating and friendly auto repair shop I’ve used to date. Avo will take care of your car like it’s his own (normally that wouldn’t mean much elsewhere, but he keeps the shop immaculate), whether it’s a ten year old Honda or a brand new Aston. Each service comes with a thorough inspection and they provide a detailed report of the process, with photos and notes that are easy to follow. While the labor prices may be more than some other shops, with this level of service and professionalism I wouldn’t go anywhere else. Avo and his team strive for excellence and nail it every time.

I’m restating what others have said, Avo and his team are excellent. They are trustworthy, do high-​quality service and repairs and on top of that they are considerate, professional and provide me with information to make an informed decision re my car.
Time and time again I have taken my car to shops near my home and I’m bombard w confusing terminology they know I don’t get and then I get subsequently bullied into a decision. They may be telling me the truth but their treatment of me really felt crappy.
I have now found my shop that I trust and that is a huge relief when dealing with high stress inducing prospect of car repairs. Like someone else Unilocaled Avo and his team have the value of relationships and with that they want lifelong satisfied customers.

Just got smogged, a relatively quick and painless operation here. Unlike other places down the road, they didn’t give me false information about the DMV’s rules in order to charge me more. Watch out for tricks like that if you compare prices…

The shop is incredibly clean, Avo is upfront about pricing and providing advice and communicating what’s being done to your auto. That’s right, as good as it gets. Foothill Smog & Auto Repair is outstanding and simply the best! My older model BMW 325I needed extensive engine work. I brought my car to Avo and the Foothill team and he did what no other mechanic could. My car now runs like new and of course it finally passed the smog check, all for a reasonable price. I’m deeply grateful to Avo and the Foothill team.

If you are looking for a mechanic this is the place to go. I took my car here which was 16 years old with over 200,000 miles. Avo did a standard diagnostic on it and gave me an estimate on what it would cost to fix it. In addition, he said i would need to make future repairs in the next 6 months.
Ultimately i decided to get rid of my car but I appreciated Avo’s honesty as he was clear in regards to what the total cost would be to get it up and running and what it was going to take in the next couple of months. Also he let me keep my car at his shop a couple of days while i figured out what i was going to do.
Finally when i picked it up he did say that if i bought a used car to bring it by and he would complete a diagnostic on it and let me know what he thought about it.

I came here for a second smog test after failing the first one. I wanted to take it to a smog & repair place in case I failed again so they can help me pass. The large number of 5-​star ratings on Unilocal reassured me that Foothill Smog & Auto Repair was a trustworthy place (thanks, Unilocalers). Avo was super nice, friendly, professional, patient, listened to my concerns, and answered all my questions. The whole process was quick, easy, and he even gave me $ 10 off for being a first time customer. The shop is immaculate. Avo also gave me a nice professional folder to put my paperwork in. The owner Avo has the most impressive business model and customer service, not to mention the location of –any repair shop I’ve ever seen.
He is ethical, professional, and understands that honesty is the best and most lucrative business practice.
What I loved about my experience there was how organized Avo is, how calm he is with his customers, and how spotless and well designed his shop is.
He was the third mechanic I’ve been to as I was trying to get my check engine light to turn off — and find out the reason why it was on.
He was thorough in his diagnostics, he was clever enough to ask the right questions– and he figured it out. The oxygen sensors that the other mechanics had put in were not working because the car was originally from Colorado– and needed a federal sensor.
I respect Avo’s work ethic, his fairness, his devoted experience and his professionalism, and I look forward to calling him «my mechanic».
It’s a relief to find someone I can trust– and admire.

I came across this auto business since my former place no longer did smog certs. I was greeted by a very nice gentleman and he was able to take me in as a walk in. By the time I finished my paperwork and maybe waited no more than 10+ minutes, my car smog was completed. I’ve never had my car done so quickly with my prior place so I will definitely be going there for future car smog certs. The place is also very clean and neat and very pleasant. Highly recommend!

Found my go-​to place for oil changes! Nice, local auto shop with the cleanest, most comfortable, air-​conditioned waiting room. Owner has stellar customer service, took my car in close to closing time and even honored a discount from Unilocal even though oil changes were not included in that particular deal. In and out in no time at all. I will definitely be back!

I had my car serviced at Foothill Smog. Avo and his crew were very professional, and friendly. They started work on time, worked thoroughly and diligently to complete the service. They also informed me of a couple of other issues that needed to be addressed, and followed up on those as well. All the work was done in a timely, neat, and of the highest quality manner. I recommend Foothill Smog for anyone’s automotive service needs.
He also has a wicked Chevelle, and cranked up the motor so I could hear the beast run.

I always went to nissan dealers for oil check, etc (I don’t know why). However, I moved to Pasadena a few months ago and unfortunately I needed an oil change and a smog check. I didn’t want to drive all the way to Gardena so thanks to Unilocal,I found this place. (: I was in a rush so asked how long it would take. He said about 1.5 hours. Thankfully, he finished in 1 hour (had errands to run) He found things (cooler leaking & front tires in bad shape… great.) that Nissan didn’t even tell me and I have been going to Nissan for years. the people were very sweet. I really recommend this place.

Very reliable auto repair! My family and I have been coming here for years. Avo is the nicest guy and is very honest and upfront. I can’t believe some people giving such poor reviews. I’ve been coming here for at least 6 years and it’s always consistent. You can compare their prices to the competitor and they are the best.
Avo even gave me a heads up when he saw something was wrong with my car and told me if i waited the cost to fix it would triple. He was fixing another part on the car but I asked him if he could double check to make sure everything looked okay. So I was able to get it fixed much cheaper than what it could have been.
I also consult with my dad and have him talk to Avo before I get any work done because my dad lives in Ohio and knows a lot about cars. He thinks Avo is great and even when I moved to Playa Del Rey wanted me to keep taking my car to him in Pasadena. This is a family owned business with honesty and integrity. If you live in the area you should definitely take your car here.

Go somewhere else, unless you want to waste your money. They charged me $ 50 for a smog test. Do yourself a favor — there are six other shops in Pasadena that does smog tests for $ 29.95. That’s a 40% rip off. Ridiculous.
In reply to the owner’s comment: I have a receipt that shows my car was in the shop. A smog test is the same every where you go. I understand over charging by 5%, but there should not be such a huge price differentiation. 40% is a huge difference. There is no service to speak of in a smog test. Just plug it in the computer.
