Christy is so awesome! I chose her to chop off my long boring hair for something short and cute. She made me fall in love with my short hair so much that I never looked back. Then I was telling her how I miss being able to curl my hair because of how short it is and she proved to me that it’s possible to do whatever I wanted even with short hair! Head massage… Not gonna complain there! The new location is very nice. Easy parking.

Every time I went to a hairdresser, they pretty much knew what I wanted — long, tapered layers. Not a difficult hairstyle. I have super thick hair and this style works well. My long term hairdresser vanished without a trace(!) and so I went to a new hairdresser last year, but the layers were not tapered enough and I had a heavy long layer underneath — and then I asked to go blond and… it just didn’t look right. Christy was originally a client of mine and I noticed her friends all had fabulous hair(and she did too, of course!) and I thought, I need to see her. Despite the style being typically easy to reproduce, she did even more — not sure what! — but her special talent and ability is really unique. It was one of the best hair cuts — if not THE best hair cut — I’ve ever had. And, given what she had to work with(there were several issues from this not so good cut I originally had) she worked magic. Since then random people I don’t even know have complimented me! Putting my hair up in a bun or styling it in the morning takes very little time. And she toned the color and that looks amazing, too.(her color product is natural, BTW.). She is my new hairstylist and I am so grateful to her, because I couldn’t let my hair down(literally) — till she fixed it!

Christy is amazing. As I’ve mentioned before, I rarely get my hair cut. Getting my hair cut by Christy was the second time I’ve gotten my hair cut in the past 5+ years. I am cheap, lazy, and don’t see the need for constant haircuts when my hair is always up in a ponytail anyway. But with summer here, I’ve had a really short haircut on my mind for a while. And after reading Abby C’s glowing review of Christy(and then talking to her about it), I decided that Christy could be trusted for my dramatic transformation. And Abby was right when she said that Christy can look at your face and hair and figure out what style would match it best. I came in with pictures of Ginnifer Goodwin’s pixie cut and Christy thankfully talked me out of it all while being super supportive. She explained how a pixie wouldn’t be a good fit for my round face and suggested a slightly longer(but still really short) hair cut with side bangs. I told her I trusted her so she was free to work her magic. And she did. She started me off with a simple shampoo and rinse, but it was so relaxing since she gives a great head massage! Then the entire time she was cutting my hair she made sure to explain every step she took and make sure I was comfortable with what she was doing. She cut my hair short but added layers to it and thinned it out a lot so it wouldn’t become poofy(one of my major concerns). And while I hate bangs, she gave me side ones that I could be okay with(although I have to admit they are taking a while to get used to…). She was great to talk to and made the atmosphere very light and fun. And the end result was wonderful! I’ve been getting compliments on my hair(both in person and on FB) and I am very happy with it. At $ 60(+tip) for a haircut, it’s a little pricey, but completely worth it. She also gives a lot of suggestions on how to style it, etc, which I found very helpful. Christy operates out of Union Salon which is on De Lacey. It’s very close to the freeway, quite easy to get to, and easy to find street parking as there is plenty of meter parking to go around! She takes appointments on Tuesdays through Saturdays, which you can make on her website, and if you do a late night one keep in mind that the meters only need to be fed until 8PM. Thank goodness since I’ll be coming back here every 6 weeks or so to maintain my hairstyle ;)

Almost 18 months later and I am still going to Christy. She has given me some of the best haircuts I’ve ever received in the past 18 months. Just wanted to touch base on here and let everyone know that I am still a Honsberger fanatic and will probably always be one as long as she cuts hair. Do not wait any longer people! GO!

Service/Cost:(5⁄5) Christy isn’t cheap, but she’s worth every penny. Let me preface by saying that I was a serial stylist-hopper for most of my life, up until about 2 years ago when I was first referred to Christy by Unilocaler Jane C. I’ve been to cheap Asian salons in the San Gabriel Valley, expensive ones in Beverly Hills, and everything in between. I was never fully satisfied and would always be on the lookout for the next best thing. But now I’ve found the best and I won’t be going anywhere else. The best part is that — because Christy is a pro at figuring out what styles will go with my hair type and how to tailor her techniques to achieve a certain look on my hair — I can trust her with more drastic hairstyle changes. Prior to Christy, I stuck with simply layered hair because I was terrified that any changes would result in disaster(and they usually did). Now with Christy, I’ve tried bangs for the first time since elementary school and have trusted her to thin out my hair(last time I thinned out my hair, I ended up with a mullet). At last visit t Christy weeks ago, I merely handed Christy a picture and sat back while she worked her magic. A short 1.5 hours later, and with a single-tint color and half of my previously near-waist length hair gone, I had exactly what I wanted — very obvious, slightly choppy layers; edgy bangs; and a reddish-brown color. It cost ~$ 128 before tip and I was happy to pay for it. Oh and a few other comments: Christy gives a killer head massage while she’s shampooing your hair, she’s really easy to talk to, and her online appointment system is very user friendly and convenient. Ambiance:(5⁄5) Union Salon is classy without being pretentious. Some salons try too look extremely or elegant — only to end up seeming snooty; others try to be hip and cool — only to end up seeming grungy. Union Salon is just right. You have the leather seating waiting area when you walk in on the left, and the salon area to your right. They have a room in the back in which to hand your jackets and to put on a gown to protect your clothes. Practical and well-kept — that’s all you need. Location:(5⁄5) Christy currently operates out of Union Salon in Pasadena. Not only is the neighborhood nice, it’s a super convenient location as its only a few minutes from the Metro and freeways — the 210, 134, and 110. I’ve never had trouble with parking as there are plenty of metered spots along the road. It’s also close to a huge list of restaurants, shopping, and theaters in case you want to stay around the area and have some fun. Overall:(5⁄5) There’s nothing else to say except«Thank You» to Christy for making my life a lot easier now that I’ve finally found a someone I can return to time and time again.

Wow! Christy is fantastic! I was looking for a salon closer to home and came across Union Salon here on Unilocal. The reviews are great so I made a consultation appointment with Christy. I was so pleased with the extent of her knowledge that I asked her to cut my hair that day. One of the best haircuts I’ve ever had. She styled it great without any direction from me as to how I wear it. She has a keen eye for what looks best on someone. I can’t wait to go back for color. How many times have you gone to someone new, drop $ 100+ and walk out of the salon not happy with your hair? Anyone can go to school and get a license to cut hair. The true stylists are the ones that have an eye for what looks best on someone. I don’t think this is something learned. It’s a talent. You either have it or you don’t. Christy definitely has it.

It was my first time at Union Salon. Christy was a great hang, we had a really fun conversation that came to a screeching halt when my shampooing turned into a killer head massage. Hello… FREEMASSAGE are you kidding me? Love my haircut too, i will be back… hell if they served food and beer i would probably still be there ;^) Thanks Christy!

Christy is absolutely the most wonderful person/hairstylist you will ever come across! Innovative and creative, I have never received a duplicated hairstyle from her for the past 4.5 years. She knows what will work with your face shape, knows what color to use with your skin color, and best of all she understands how to deal with different hair textures. I have never been disappointed walking out with a fresh haircut and have always received compliments after compliments after getting a cut from Christy. I highly recommend her, as I have to all my friends and family for the past years.
