Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church

Ive been to all the Catholic Churches in Pasadena. I finally found a place I want to worship at. The Priest and the Choir is the perfect combination to help uplift my soul. I look forward to going to this church every Sunday at 7:30 am! I know its super early… but the feeling I get leaving that mass motivates me to keep going. Father Gerard is super relatable and aware of contemporary times. I admire his preaching style! #amen #JesusIsNotDead

I’m from out of town. Father Gerard’s eulogy of my cousin David Feser’s memorial mass was meaningful and intimate. I recommend this parish.

I happen to be the mom of 3 adult kids with Special Needs. From the first day of Father Gerard’s presence at Assumption, he has embraced my children with great love, and has facilitated their active participation and visibility in the liturgy, and in many parish functions. My children love him, and so does their mother. Father Gerard demonstrates a spirit of welcome to all who come to Assumption, and he inspires faithfulness regardless of a person’s faith base. He loves the Blessed Sacrament, promotes spirituality, and reverences the traditions of our faith. People are drawn to Assumption because of Father Gerard’s joyful spirit, and his unpretentious approachability. Moments before his death, my nephew reached out to Father Gerard as his tangible link to God. My Nephew greeted him: «Hi Friend»…because that is what Father Gerard is, a friend to Jesus and a friend to His people. We are incredibly grateful that Father Gerard has become such an integral part of our journey in the Catholic Church at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish.

This was my first time to attend Mass at Assumption. I was the pianist for a funeral, and I must say that I was touched by Father Gerard’s words. And then, in all my career as a musician, it was a first when he approached me and the singers after Mass and offered us a blessing! Assumption is blessed to have such a wonderful priest.

A block away from where I lived. The architecture is one of those modern churches, rather awkward orientation, but not as weird as some of those modernistic churches like the one in Chino Hills. Mass actually is pretty lively. They do have daily mass but they do have a side chapel, a good place for meditation. The head pastor, Father Gerard delivers pretty good sermons.

Our wonderful Priest, Father Gerard O’Brien presided over all four Masses today and was absolutely inspiring. He is the «Real Deal» and we feel blessed indeed that our church is so close to home. He always has time and truly welcomes everyone to come and visit, attend or join. We go to the 5 o’clock service each Sunday. Thank you Father for bringing us closer to our God! Roland and Christina

The parishioners of Assumption are warm and loving, however, the pastor of the parish is awful. Fr Gerard is a rude, narsasistic, hypocrit. He uses the pulpit for his own agenda; he may or may not actually refer to the gospel during his sermons; he talks incessantly about certain individuals and their problems (mind you, often these individuals are not members of the parish) and he’ll asks the congregation to pray for some tragedy that occurred in a foreign country while he ignores tragedies that occur in our own back yard.
I will admit, he can be charismatic on the alter but meet him on the street and he just can’t be bothered and is down right rude. You might not even recognize him as a priest because he never dresses like one unless he is on the alter. He «talks» about his love for the children of the grade school attached to the church, however, he hardly ever shows his face at any of the school functions… I guess he just can’t be bothered.
I still consider Assumption my home parish but I won’t be going to mass there until Fr. Gerard is gone.

Assumption is a warm and spiritual church, the priests are legitimate men of God with great concern for their parish. Fr. Gerard is tireless, enthusiastically defending the tenets of the Faith and encouraging people to get involved. Mass there is always helpful and uplifting.

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church (ABVM) is a hidden gem in Pasadena. The pastor Fr. Gerard is amazing and speaks from his heart.
