Stan has applied his approach with over 2,000 couples facing divorce. He has successfully mediated hundreds of the most difficult kinds of family and family business disputes — including high conflict matters, both private and Court referred, from all walks of life.

Virtually all disputes are settled amicably and virtually no disputants return to court. Many in divorce litigation reconcile spontaneously, without any pressure.

History

Established in 1989.

Stan Posthumus, MSW JD APM, a family/​divorce/​relationship specialist, has worked with families to build and reconstruct new relationships for over 25 years. Stanley was born and raised in South Africa and while working in a law firm, he realized that the adversarial divorce system was detrimental to both parties and that there had to be a better way. He combined his background in Science, Social Work and Law and became the first family mediator in private practice in South Africa. He spent years working with couples fine-​tuning the process he developed and called Focused Thinking Mediation.

In 1995, Stanley moved with his family to New Jersey, and developed a successful mediation practice to help couples across the country and around the world. A well-​known speaker he teaches and trains mediators, professionals and couples at workshops. He enjoys to share the technology he discovered not only with clients, but also with other professionals at local and international conferences.

Stan Posthumus MSW JD studied social work and law at the University of Natal, South Africa. He has taught mediation at many universities and conferences around the world.

He has put his Social Work and law degrees into practice and has been a full-​time family and divorce mediator for more than 25 years — nearly 20 years in the USA.
