Sun and Moon Yoga

Great yoga studio and very nice teachers. I always like it when instructors teach variations of a pose to make it easier or harder depending on your level. So far I have gone to 4 classes and each has been slightly different, which I like. Parking can be an issue if there are a lot of people coming to a class.

I really don’t like this place. The owner is unprofessional, and makes lame excuses for her actions. She feels like she can do things to you other than yoga, that would require a medical degree. But she doesn’t need the medical degree because she’s special, and doesn’t care about injuring clients. I want my money back.

Carlie is AMAZING.
She’s always changing up class! It might be a quote, an entry from a book, the use of essential oils, or crystal bowls. Somehow, she delivers exactly what you need.
She also reminds us to love ourselves and everything our body allows us to do, removing focus from what we can’t do. She always sets you up for trying a new pose like crow, or a hand stand. And she reminds you that what your body allowed you to do was and is enough.
I’m so grateful for a yoga studio with such a passionate owner to be available to me!

Instructors are good here. Helpful cues are provided throughout class and there is good awareness as to what people are doing. They correct form and suggest variations whether an exercise is too easy or difficult. Typically I work with Karen on Sunday mornings (some evenings can be very crowded) and she is great. Her class is very structured and she leads everyone with confidence and knowledge. I love the thorough warm up phase. Class starts in a very focused, meditative state which is something that I look for since I’ve participated in high intensity sports and activities. This is a good change as I look for things to compliment my current activity level. Using the mind properly is just as important as using the body and it’s nice to work on visualization and thought control once in a while. Besides the mental & spiritual component, lots of focus is set on preparing the body for the specific flows that will come during class. Proper use of blocks, straps, bolsters, etc are taught and can be very helpful during class. I’ve learned things that I use in my exercise routines outside of Sun & Moon so it has been very beneficial to be here. I wish the hot yoga class was hotter though! In addition to yoga, this place occasionally has special workshops and fundraisers for various groups.

I just signed up and went for the Hot Vinyasa class, wonderful amd amazing. It felt sooo good, especially in this cold weather ! :)

I went to Sun Moon Yoga with my teenage daughter for the first time last week. We are both yoga beginners. The class was wonderful. The instructor was patient and welcoming, and even talked about the stresses of school and homework when she was discussing the importance of relaxation. It was nice that she made an effort to include my daughter in the class. We will definitely be returning.

As a newish-​to-​Yoga male, I was a bit intimidated joining a real Yoga studio taught by such a learned teacher. However, I felt very comfortable here and learned a ton. No class is the same. The teacher can intuitively sense which students need work on what areas and without even a word spoken, she twists the class accordingly. Plus Carlie is a very spiritual person and I knew for that hour at least, any shame or self-​loathing would be entirely banished. It is a very freeing, cleansing and uplifting experience tying together body, soul and mind. Highly recommended for beg./medium level to advanced…

Wonderful studio that I would highly recommend ! I found it on groupon but I’ll be a loyal customer from now on. The owner Carlie is the best instructor I’ve ever had. Other instructors are very good as well. I even have my hubby going here and he loves it. Small quiet studio. I love it!

Nice little space and excellent classes. This is a 1 room studio with a good variety of classes for beginner to intermediate level yogis. The instructors are friendly and very welcoming. Class sizes tend to be small which I really like, cuz there is nothing worse than doing yoga with someone else’s foot in your face!

I am not one of those people who really likes to go to yoga. That is, I have to really talk myself into it, although once I’m there I’m always really happy I went and enjoy it, as long as it’s a good instructor. So far all the instructors I’ve tried at Sun and Moon Yoga are great. Some of the things I like the best is how accepting they are of what you can and can’t do — it’s very easy to modify and take class at your own pace, and all the instructors seem to incorporate some mindfulness into how they teach, which I really appreciate. I also like that for the most part they don’t make stuff up — in the past I’ve gone to classes at other places where, from a physiological point of view, the instructors are just making things up about how your body works. I get that yoga is not all about the physical, but instructors should not be talking about things they know nothing about just because it sounds good and it makes you feel good thinking that the things they describe are actually true. At Sun and Moon the instructors don’t seem to do this, and even better, they actually use words that make sense, such as naming body parts correctly, and using descriptions of what to do that I can actually follow vs. being so abstract and yoga-​y that no one could possible figure out what to do.
Another great aspect of Sun and Moon is that you can pay for classes online and log into your account to track what classes you’ve been to and how many classes you have left if you purchase a series (which I highly recommend — it’s the most affordable way to go, and once you are on their email list sometimes they have specials making the packages even cheaper). The one piece of advice I have is that if you decide to go regularly, it’s worth investing in your own mat. I was really excited originally that they have such a good supply of equipment available so that I didn’t have to bring my own stuff (especially since I’m often going to/​from somewhere else before or after class, and usually am not getting there by car), but the mats aren’t always that clean. There is spray cleaner there and I believe everyone is supposed to clean their mats after each class, but I don’t think that’s always happening, or maybe some people have different standards of cleanliness than I do.

I have been practicing yoga since 2002 and when I moved from the Western Suburbs, I wanted to find a yoga studio close to my home. I bought a Groupon for Sun and Moon and am so pleased with my classes there so far. The students are serious about their efforts but are also friendly. And the teachers have been great at cueing movements and giving direction to increase the benefits of the different poses. I especially love going for «lunchtime» yoga as it is a wonderful break for stress-​relief during the day.

I have to say I am new to Yoga so I bought a Groupon to this place and I figured it would be a great way to start learning without being too invested in some super pricey place. I have to say that within a few classes, not only did I start to love Yoga but I also started to love this place. It’s so peaceful, serene, clean and I just want to come back again for more classes. You don’t need to sign up for the classes as I believe walk ins are always available and you can just pay right when you get there. You can bring your own mat or they have their own as well as everything you may need including towels, blocks etc, all the great things that you are free to borrow. Just be nice and clean up the mat after you are done. Okay, I started with a back to basics classes with Julie and it was great, a perfect beginners class where I got the hang of things pretty quickly and was by no means overwhelmed. She talks about some of the yoga terms as well as really guides you through the whole yoga flow and process. Oh, how can I forget to talk about their charming studio, I love it, they have natural skylights, the room is spacious enough for like 12 – 14 people per class comfortably. It really relaxes you in itself.
Then I tried another class with Joan, I think it was definitely a little more challenging as it said ALL levels can come, but I definitely broke a sweat in this class, but a challenge is really good. However, the best class I had was with Carlie who I believe is the owner, she was amazing. I definitely could not keep up with all the pros in that class, but I had a great time trying. She truly makes the 1 hour class fly by since it’s entertaining, challenging and stress relieving, what better way to spend your Saturday or Sunday afternoon. You can tell just how knowledgable, friendly and super passionate she is about her practice and she gives off a really positive energy.
Overall, I’m so happy I came to this studio to get my start because it showed me how much yoga is for me and how much I want to continue doing something as a hobby or maybe as part of my life. It really does change your mental state of mind in a positive way, and it truly can be inspirational because with each class, they give you a new meaning of life and a new message you can really take with you. The only thing is this place is a half an hour drive from me, but I don’t think that will stop me from coming back since it is so enjoyable. The classes make me want to challenge myself and become stronger in doing so. They should open up another sun and moon yoga by me and then I can become a regular. So overall, nothing negative to say about this place.

I decided to give yoga a try for the first time and purchased a Groupon to Sun and Moon Yoga. I must say that part of the decision was based off of these Unilocal reviews, so I am in turn going to add yet another 5-​star review here because my first experience was absolutely amazing! Carlie is so knowledgeable, friendly and beyond passionate about her practice.
The class that I attended had all kinds of people ranging from kids to the elderly and I have to vouch for the emphasis of being in a non-​judgmental environment where anyone would feel perfectly comfortable. I was pretty intimidated to be in a room full of Yogis having zero clue what was in store, but that intimidation disappeared immediately as the class begun.
While my initial thought on trying yoga was for the benefit of physical exercise, I found that there is SO MUCH more that yoga offers. Beyond the physical I couldn’t believe how much of a difference breathing makes and just how much yoga helps calm your mind and leave you feeling fulfilled and so positive! And to think, this is all from just ONE CLASS!
I am so excited to try some of the other classes and meet some of the other instructors and will undoubtedly be signing up right after my Groupon is up!
If you’re looking to try yoga, I absolutely recommend this place.

A friend convinced me to give this studio another try and I’m glad I did. I wasn’t a huge fan of the first class we went to but I absolutely love Karin’s Blissful Backs class. Her instruction is thorough and both my body and spirit are energized after her classes.

I first tried this studio a few days ago, and I really dig the vibe. It’s quiet and you don’t hear any surrounding noise so it’s easy to get in the zone and relax. All equipment is available to use if needed. It’s clean and home-​y. :) Carlie was very attentive and helped me get into my first arm bind! So excited! (Gotta celebrate the little victories! I’m only a few months into yoga) I was introduced to this studio from Groupon but I will be returning back for more. Thanks Sun & Moon!

I have taken two classes here recently and am going to my third one this week. I really like Sun and Moon. You’re enveloped in it’s warm atmosphere as soon as you walk in. The studio has beautiful hardwood floors. It also has all the equipment you need: mats, blocks, bolsters, etc. Both Kim P (Yoga for Stress Relief) and Karin (Blissful Backs) were great teachers. I’m excited to attend a class taught by Carlie. My friend who is a regular at Sun and Moon raves about her.

I have been to Sun and Moon Yoga twice, and have a great experience. Hot Yoga with Carlie was fantastic and the class was filled! I did a regular class on a Sunday, and me and my daughter were the only ones in the class, and the instructor Kim was amazing.
Very Clean and very helpful and very good instructors! I wish they had classes later on in the evening, as I work until 7pm during the week.

This was the first time I had ever visited a Yoga studio and I couldnt have been more pleased and relaxed as I left the class. I came to the class as a walk-​in just to try it out since I didnt know what to expect. The room was clean with gleaming hard wood floors and once the doors were closed for the class to begin the light was dimmed down with only a few candles for light and a heavenly type glow shining through the rice-​paper doors. The class was challenging yet do-​able and it seemed to fly by in a blink. I attended the blissful backs class and it left me feeling relaxed and at peace.
Recently there was a Groupon for 5 classes for $ 35 and I’m now kicking myself for not buying it since the classes can get pretty pricey.

I had never taken yoga before, so this was the first place I tried. They were so welcoming! It is a smaller place with a variety of classes and instructors. You can try an unlimited amount of classes for 1 week for $ 20, which is a great deal! The instructors really try to get to know you and are a great help (she knew my friend and I were new so she made sure to help us out). They were very encouraging. I didn’t feel uncomfortable or judged for being new. I would definitely give this place a try if you are new to yoga or have been practicing for years!

I’d been going to a pretty popular Bikram studio for the past several months until my Groupon expired. I was initially attracted to this place as an alternative because it is much closer to home, has ample parking, and the prices were great with discounts for students. I was also looking for a little bit more variety, so I was really excited to find that this place offered hot Vinyasa classes.
My muscles have never felt so alive! Wonderful class, and Carlie was such an attentive instructor. The studio is gorgeous and it’s so hard to not compare it to the place I previously frequented… clean hardwood floors, glowing candles, crystal chimes, burning incense… the instructor even came around at the end of the class and spritzed refreshing lavender-​scented water on us as we rested in savasana. The environment made it so much easier to focus on our
much better than being distracted by the stench of feet in a carpeted studio… I can’t believe it took me so long to find the haven that is Sun and Moon Yoga!
My only suggestion would be to offer more evening classes or slightly later morning classes. Otherwise, this place is awesome, and I’m sure it will be the start of something amazing.
