With over 20 years experience in training individuals and teaching firearm manipulation, I can give you real world insight into the best and most efficient way to deploy your firearm in a self defense situation. My background started in the United State Marine Corp and has continued with four certification as a NRA Instructor. My goal is to bring quality training and education to the general public because I believe it’s the individuals right to protect himself or herself, as well as family and friends, in a self defense scenario.

I ordered a couple of magazines for my Smith and Wesson M&Ps from DMZ. It was quick, easy and I didn’t have to deal with any pushy salesman who tries to push multiple accessories at you. I look forward to doing more business with DMZ.

As cheap as it is going though this guy, he works his FFL from his house, and is not very friendly at all, he wants to rush you in and out as fast as possible and I would highly recommend you find a better place to have your firearm received, I didn’t like how he handled my shipment, he tossed the shipping box, and opened the firearm box without me there, he told me he had to log in the numbers from the firearm, well I told him the numbers are on the box and paperwork. Plus on top of all this BS, he didn’t even offer me a receipt for the cash I give him for his service, very poor business skills on Nelson from DMZ.
My advice is stay away from doing business with this FFL, even if his pricing is lower then anyone else, their is a good reason why, and I found out. Bad business call on my part.
I gave this FFL home based DMZ guy a 1 star, but if I could give none I would. Customers should ask and tell him what your wanting cause he didn’t listen to this customer. He assumes way to much and is not friendly at all.

I did an FFL transfer and received great service and unbeatable price from Nelson at DMZ. I’ve tried others for transfer and it was a headache and I can do without the attitude. Nelson is down to earth and a great guy. I also just took the CCW class with Nelson and Chris and it was thoroughly enjoyable and a great learning experience for someone just starting out with self-​defense weapons. I highly recommend these guys for all your self-​defense needs. Thanks guys!

Nelson handled an FFL transfer for me. I found him through an online search and his pricing was very reasonable. This was my 1st firearm purchase, and of course, I had a number of questions regarding the process. He always responded promptly to my emails. When I went to pick up my gun, he was very friendly and gave me advice on purchasing ammunition. Definitely considering DMZ for CCW classes and will be using him for any future FFL transfers.

CCW class was taught in a profesional manor. Nelson provided his knowledge to throughly explain the material needed while giving examples of situations to help students digest the material. Illinois requires 16 hours of instruction and found the information interesting and informative. I would recommend Nelsons CCW class to anyone who was looking to obtain a CCW permit. After reading other reviews Nelson offers his class at a competitive price and was worth every penny.

I have taken the IL conceal carry course and have done a few FFL transfers with Nelson at DMZ. Prices are hard to beat, the class fee even included meals and plenty of snacks, and the transfer fee is better than just about anywhere else in the area. He’s very quick in responding to emails/​calls and has the paperwork filled out and ready when you arrive to pick up you firearm. Definitely worth checking out!

Took the conceal carry class part 2 here had a good time the instructor nelson is a cool guy was very informative didnt mind all the questions we would ask the day went by quite fast the range part was a quick 20 min drive to article ii. lunch was included in the price had wings and stuff was pretty good ive also purchased a few firearms thru nelson as he is a ffl license holder also with good competitive prices and the cheapest transfer fees probably on this side of town.

Excellent CCW class. Cheapest price around yet the quality and instruction was first rate. Nelson’s experience and extensive knowledge of practically any firearm ever made is evident in this well planned and well executed class.
The CCW class requires learning a lot of laws and instruction in carrying a firearm in Illinois. This means a lot of reading/​class time. But Nelson’s affable nature and unparalleled knowledge in all things firearms, allows the class to flow at a nice pace. Fingerprinting is also included in the class.
Nelson is also readily available for any questions after taking the class. I took the class 7 months ago. I’ve texted or emailed him questions regarding firearms, home security, carrying laws, etc. He answered all my questions fast and thorough.
The location of the class is perfect. Right off the highway and you’re there in a couple of minutes. There plenty places to lunch in the area, but that’s irrelevant because he caters lunch!!!
Also, purchasing a firearm through DMZ is easy and definitely has the cheapest transfer rates than any other FFL around.
I’m also excited to sign up for his outdoor class!

Multiple firearm transfer experiences — all fantastic. Nelson is professional, friendly, and very efficient (i.e. forms that he needs to complete are already ready by the time you come saving your time, items are ready). Great communication and very quick response to your questions, highly recommending his business and him personally. If you are looking for a trustworthy, efficient, friendly, professional FFL in Chicago area, you may have found it.
I have not yet tried his classes and likely to do it in 2014.

A very smooth firearm purchasing experience, in Cook County no less!
Found Nelson while researching purchasing a firearm and contacted him regarding doing an FFL transfer (for which he has the best prices). He was very helpful and willing to review the process with me over the phone and provide recommendations on websites (unlike the cold, dismissive vibe I got from others). But I actually ended up ordering the firearm directly through him and picking it up later that week, no problem at all. He was able to locate the pistol I wanted that everyone else in the area seemed to be out of stock in, and provided a very fair price that beat all the other shops in the area. Highly recommend his service.
His IL CCF class also seems to be a great deal, and I will look into finishing my required training through him.

I used Nelson for the FFL transfer for a handgun purchased from a Glock dealer in Texas. DMZ provided a very professional service, good communications, and extremely reasonable cost — cheaper than any of the ranges in the region. Highly recommended. I would have taken his Illinois CCF class if I had not already qualified and received my Illinois license.

I found Nelson the same way as Pete C. and had the same great experience; I agree with all that Pete said. What was also important to me is that Nelson is a former Marine who brings, as you’d expect, all the knowledge, professionalism, insight and integrity to the program of a person with his experience. Nelson is also NRA certified so he gives you the opportunity (for NRA’s fee) to get the Basic Pistol Course certificate, which I did. I plan on taking private pistol instruction from and will take the NRA Basic rifle class with him and bring my two kids along. (Rifle is actually his specialty.)
Nelson is a great guy and you could not go wrong getting your certificate through him.

I actually found Nelson after buying a firearm online. He was the closest FFL dealer to me and i figured i would give him a call. Im really happy that i did because i ended up taking the 2nd portion of the ccw class that he offered and that i needed to get my permit. I attended his «sign up» party and got a discount for the class. His class was totally worth it. The class is held in a nice clean office building. He threw in breakfast, lunch, fingerprints, and a free gift for taking the class! Where else are you going to find all of this?! Thanks again Nelson!
