In the detox unit, if you are there for opiates, they will give you wayyyy too much suboxone. Only take one 2mg a day after the first day of taking it. Unless you are trying to get a little fix. Then u might as well leave and go bang some dope. But if you want help dont take too much subs. It wont get u high and u will have suboxone withdrawal after u leave. Also, you are allowed to bring hard candy like jolly ranchers, watch out for the fiends, they will be all over you. That shit is like crack in there. You can trade a few of those for any snacks you want. The food is absolutely disgusting 90% of the time. If you are going to their drug detox, and are sick of your life, listen to the H+I people who come in to speak during the NA/​AA meetings. Listening to them is whats saved my life. I came into detox sickly as shit, hopeless, doubtful, and suicidal. I was shooting up dope heavily for about 2 years and doing other drugs for a decade. Ive been clean for some time now and i am really living, not just existing. I am happy with life clean and sober and am planning on visiting this detox to speak and share my experience, strength, and hope.
Also if you are going to the clinic for vivitrol, nurse Mary Butler is awesome. She goes above and beyond for her patients and is very down to earth. 5 stars for her. For the other staff, they probably get paid a very low wage and are just angry with their lives so they will take it out on you no matter how polite you are to them.
Also, if you are there for anything at all, be prepared to wait a shitload of time for anything to get done. If possible, go to a different hospital or clinic.

This so called hospital is a hell hole. Bergen Regional is more like how I perceive a prison or jail to be. I was there in Bergen Regional yrs ago and the staff were overall very rude and racists. I saw a locker tampered with that someone put a lot of money in. When I tried to tell someone, the staff person asked if I need a sedative lol. The next day maintenance came to fix the busted locker.
I watched along with a few other people how certain people were shown special treatment from other people working there of their own race. My fruit snacks mysteriously disappeared when staff okayed them and I saw my friend get his snacks from the snack area from staff who were his race. I was told I had to wait when I wanted my stuff to share with the person I watched.
Everytime I call this hospital which is rare, my calls go ignored or I get a reply months later once in awhile. I tried again today and the Hindi woman receptionist was very nasty and tried to ignore me when I asked her why the brochure says just drop by. The receptionist brushed me off. I explained I did not give my Social Security number over the phone when someone there asked and said my area was not being helped for a few weeks.
The nasty receptionist who was very unprofessional said than I get no help. I tried to talk to someone else who seemed very courteous about this. The courteous person said go upstairs. I was told by the receptionist that is not allowed. Once I received an appointment. I showed up and was told I had no appointment there. This hospital is full of cold hearted staff that are like robots.
My ex claims he saw one worker throw out my junk-​mail there in the past. The staff do whatever they want there. The mail is not supposed to be trashed whether it is junk mail or not. This makes me wonder how the hospital remains in business with so much going on there and with staff who are more unstable than the patients. I have heard the hospital hires people who are former patients quicker than other people. This could explain some of the rude staff having issues there.
Another lady who I used to deal with at Bergen Regional was rude too and seemed to think she was there to have her butt kissed. Her attitude was horrendous. This woman was there for yrs and barked at me as if her job was killing her. A course in patient and staff etiquette should be taught here.

Would it be so difficult for the phone receptionist to be nice?
Every time I call – literally every time – they sound like you took them away from something really important.
I thought their patients were at the heart of everything they do?
Hey, my family member is in there because she has a serious mental illness and I’m worried sick. How about being KIND???

i was sexually assaulted while i was there. the staff did nothing to stop this person from getting at me repeatedly. this occurred over a more than 24 hour period and out of the 7 times this person tried to get to me, they only stopped this woman the first time (on notice at that time that this woman wanted to assault me) and the very last time she tried to get at me. THEY DO NOT CARE IF A PATIENT GETS HURT!

Bergen regional gave my telephone number to a completely seperate medical service. I called them a few months back and received a call from a different company soliciting services.
I did not ask or allow for my information to be given out.
I could see this happening with a small time company but a HOSPITAL? sharing phone numbers? Come on now. I wish I knew who I could report about this.

should be no star this is the worse hospital. in the state. dr in emergency not interested in patient, nurse sitting in front of computer not moving for 2 hours, having aide do everything and nursing director of emergency is a waste. rude is verbally abusive and controlling and if u answer her back she calls security. state needs to imvestigate. the aide should be running the place she was the only one who knew what was going on

Just like Hackensack University Medical Center is the best hospital in NJ and among the top 30 in the nation, Bergen Regional has to be one of the worst hospitals in NJ. The staff are rude unprofessional and a bunch of pompous asses specially in the emergency room. I was there with my wife and one of the nurses was cursing at one of the patients. I had never seen this in any emergency room hospital. These freaking clowns take their jobs for granted and think they are big shit. When in fact they should all be fired and the hospital be closed down. They are shameful and a disgrace to the medical community.

Once again, this is a disaster. Some of the people who work there, such as the nurse’s aides and a few nurses as well as physical therapy people, are beyond lovely. But the majority of people there are atrocious to the patients. The patient registration department has a horrible woman working there who treats people like garbage and refuses to listen to you when you attempt to give her the correct information. She thinks she is God herself. Beware of her. The majority of people who work there have no skills or customer service at all. If you are so sick you can’t fend for yourself, you’ll die here horribly. I totally agree with the other reviews in general. I don’t know how this place is in existence.

100+ patients seen in the clinic on most days. Way Understaffed! The Doctor to Patient ratio at the Clinic is like 1 to 35+, rude, obnoxious, entitled! I waited 7.5 hrs. to see a doctor only because I was in dire pain, and even then it was a rushed visit! If you don’t «look» sickly the nurses put your file at the bottom of the to be seen list and keep it there, in hopes you’ll get disgusted and leave! Imagine 2 packed waiting rooms, standing room only in the hall, and the nurses standing around haha’ing it for a half an hour at a time. SCHEDULING is a joke, you’re better off just getting in there early as a walk in half the time! And when I finally got to see the Doctor? the first thing out of the Doctor’s mouth is «we don’t give out Narcotics here»… Like I’m a drug addict seeking a fix! But I guarantee if it wasn’t a «Clinic» and a real HMO was involved they’d cut a script lickedy split! Or if cash were involved!
The Doctors are lost most of the time, they can’t find the patient files and get pissy when you don’t remember every single detail of your previous visits, which Doctor you saw on your previous visit, and what was done… So you basically have to give them a patient history, even though they have it all on computer– which, btw, is usually wrong or has missing DX or RX info.
And the pharmacy personnel are the absolute worst! Missing RXs, or an added RX (I’ve see both a number of times as patients came back to complain) The one woman who works the window actually raised her voice at one of the patients while I was there — the «employees» get great service, that’s because they are seen FIRST and get to cut the line (which leads out the door or all the way down the hall most days) at any time; and it’s hours and hours wait to get your RX filled!
They close at 5:30pm SHARP so better to drop it off and come back the next day or refill over the phone! AND if you’re a person who has a Charity Care card, they look down at you like you’re slime!
The ER, however, has a very caring staff! (I know, I’ve had to go a number of times because I was told to just go to the ER.) Even if the Doctors are overloaded with patients they take the time to see and ask what the problem is! The ER Staff (day or night) get great kudos from me!
The rest of the condescending, uncaring, and incompetent «Doctors» and «Nurses» at the clinic can jam it as far as I’m concerned!
