Paradise Transmission

Nice but quiet man who checked my trans oil, thank you. He also showed me how to check it myself and he told me my battery needs a new cable, too. I would trust them to do major work on my transmission, as they have apparently been there a long time and take pride in their work. Did not give 5 stars yet because I haven’t had him do any actual work to evaluate yet, but he did go over and above his job of checking my tranny oil.

Josiah at paradise Transmission told me my transmission was no good after there examination so I put it into my brother in laws automotive shop they put in a new transmission wich did the same thing turned out my old trany was rebuilt a year ago and had nothing wrong with it my problem was a shift solenoid thanks to paradise Transmission and Josiah I paid out $ 1300. When it could have been fixed for a $ 130. They should not be in business

Took in my 1997 Silverado after loosing 3^rd and 4^th gears. Josiah gave me a «worst case ballpark» when I asked, but explained that they would do a full diagnosis and get back to me in a day or two.
I ended up needing a rebuild. Not only did I get 2 phone calls along the way with progress updates, I got a DETAILED 2 page receipt of everything that was done, as well as a written 3 year 50,000 mile warranty.
Picked up my truck this morning and I can’t tell that anyone was ever in it. Not a thing disturbed. Truck shifts perfectly.
Nobody is happy to hear that they need major auto work done, but I can tell you Paradise Transmission made it a bit easier. I was treated well, and feel like I got a good value for the money I spent.

Absolutely no one else I would trust with my transmission needs. This has been a family run business in Paradise for as long as I remember. Twice now (2 different vehicles) I have had unexpected transmission issues… I made sure my vehicle ended up here even though in longer live in Paradise. Josiah is a great guy and an honest, hard worker who takes great pride in both of those qualities. THANK YOU.

Yes Paradise Transmission «stole» my entire custom drive train, in August 2014 when I contracted them to rebuild «my» Allison (now know 1000) transmission, thinking Steve Sandstrom was still alive and running the shop, as the business cards on the counter still confirmed he was there, as well as, Duane did not tell me he wasn’t still alive, when I told him Steve was the reason I was there, Steve being known for being a meticulous transmission expert and a man of high integrity, Duane just nodded his head and went in to his sales speech.
BEWARE! Shady at Best! Very unprofessional! It doesn’t matter what you tell them, «they do, and take» what they want! Make sure you read other «reviews not recommended», on Unilocal!
They kept my truck for a week, for a two day job, and when I received my truck back, it was running terrible, choking and dieing. My electrical system had received a lot of heat! Josiah claimed I had a fuel problem. No I didn’t, my engine was in excellent running condition when I dropped it off, I drove it there, and just came in from a long trip across 4 states. Fresh oil change, and lube, and aligned, and no engine trouble at all. Definitely not blowing black smoke, like the way it was choking out, after they played with it for a week!
Worse yet, my entire custom drive train was replaced, with old, used dug out of the mud, stock drive train, he traded my Allison set up, for hydramatic4l80E and Bog Warner T-​case with a 1995 2 piece rusted driveline, with rotten broken carrier bearing and very dangerous used stock u-​joints. When I dropped the truck off I had an Allison 1000 transmission, a Dana transfer case, and an absolutely awesome custom skinny/​slender heavy duty shiny, one of a kind, one piece drive line, with 1480 u-​joints, as well as, an irreplaceable mechanical shift kit, they don’t make them any more! Asked Josiah where it was and he said I never had that. Yes I did, I know my truck, I use it for towing livestock, we check our drive trains almost every time we tow. Not to mention I was under there myself, many times, I know what I had!
They had also cut and welded my cross over exhaust and now it had holes and leaks all in it. Josiah was afraid of braking a bolt, «he said». The cross over never even needed to be removed in any way! Cutting and welding on my truck with out my knowledge or permission is very wrong!
They did not log mileage in and out, only one mileage for both.
They also sent me down the road with greasy rags wrapped around the electrical wires of my starter, sitting right on the manifold, I was sooo lucky it didn’t catch fire! Josiah Claimed that was to stop it from arching, when they were welding, on the cross over bar.
There were 2 bolts missing out of six on the housing of the used stock transmission they now had chosen for me, without my knowledge or permission.
They had the starter not in its hanger bracket, just loose, that way a couple months down the road the bolts will be stripped and the starter wont fire, or it will just fall out/​off.
The dip stick holder was only in the pan far enough, to keep the fluid in, and therefore the tranny was way over full, in order to read «at all» on the stick. (see image)
Yes after them «yelling at me a lot», many phone calls and many shops to make the truck run again, they replaced the exhaust, they replaced the missing bolts, and adjusted the dip stick properly, and removed the over full fluid. They only acknowledge what was visually wrong, what was actually missing (entire custom drive terrain) they just claim was never there and my claims are unwarranted. And my PMD that had received extreme heat shock from their welding/​charging on the truck, had to be replaced, I had NO trouble ever with it, before, they played with my truck!
They gave me a nation wide warranty, as I live out of state, but with nothing in writing and they make up the rules as they go, like if it needs a service, I am to bring it back to them, (from 3 states away) but never telling me when it will need one, or how and when to properly care for it,…they say if anything goes wrong just bring it in to them (from 3 states away). Not nationwide service, that’s for sure!
They saw me coming… a women, broke down, alone, from out of state!
They were absolutely unprofessional, rude, dishonest and all about what was the best and easiest for them, to make a profit, no matter the life long result of their actions, for me and my truck. They take, and do what they want, just because they want it/​to!
I have emailed them twice to find out when I should service this transmission (the one they selected for me, not the one they were hired to re-​build), and once they said if it needs it, I need to bring it to them (ya I want to hand over my keys to them again!) And that is not nationwide service!

You won’t find a more stand up crew than Josiah and his team at Paradise Transmission. I had some work recently done which was covered under warranty and they took care of it with no balking or hesitance. This place is one of the few where they do good work and a warranty really means something. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Upfront and honest. They replaced the transmission in my Honda Pilot and backed their warranty 110%. So glad we had this team do the job because they have gone way above and beyond. This is not the stereotypical shady car mechanics we have dealt with or heard about– entirely the other end of the spectrum. Very Trustworthy!

Very professional with clear and accurate communication and support for their work. Solid local reputation. Been driving the Odyssey for a week + 1,300 miles and it is shifting and driving better than it has in almost 7 years. I’m taking it to Nashville from Los Angeles in 2 weeks… 4,000 miles round trip. I’ll post another review at that time.
