Termite Police

After reading the online reviews, I was encouraged to contact them. But I left messages for them and never heard back.

I have worked with many pest companies over the years and John Kunkel is the only one I would call to deal with termite issues. He was prompt, knowledgeable and the cost was very reasonable. A few weeks after he completed the work, we found an area that was previously inaccessible that showed termite activity. He came out again, treated the new spot and didn’t charge us additionally. Termite Police has 5 star reviews because they deserve it.

John was great. I made a mistake on the time — thought appointment was for 9 when it was for 11. I left my house just before 11, he called me to tell me he had arrived on time, would go to another appointment, then head back over to my house at 1. He showed up on time, we walked around the house looking at the previous places I had termite damage. Only one place had reoccurred, but he told me if I didn’t want to take care of it right away, it wouldn’t be a problem. He explained exactly what he would do. The pellets I called him about were not termite droppings but silverfish, and he told me how to get rid of them. My previous pest control had told me another area had silverfish, but given me no suggestions on how to get rid of them. When I decide to take care of the current termite damage, John is the only person I would hire to take care of it.

Termite Police did a fantastic job. John came out to assess the problem with his son-​in-​law, and they are both very knowledgeable. They gave me great options about how to address the issue. They are professional, honest, have integrity, fix the problem and guarantee it, period. There prices are very reasonable.
They arrived on time to eradicate the termites, do a complete inspection, and left everything neat and tidy. I really appreciated that they schedule a specific time and not a 4 hour window.
Due to some very bad experiences with some very unscrupulous companies in the past, I was very careful this time and totally satisfied with Termite Police. They are worth the wait, and very deserving of all the high Unilocal ratings.

I was pretty sure we’d need a treatment for a termite infestation. Based on what he saw, John thought treating it wasn’t necessary. He let me know about some DIY approaches, along with a lot of general information about reducing risk of infestation and monitoring for termite activity. I thought I owed him a consultation fee at least, but he declined. We’ll definitely call them back the next time we need termite experts!

We knew we had termites at our rental. I was referred to Termite Police. John gave us an assessment for the work (we were glad that it didn’t involve tenting). On the day of the job, John explained and showed me where the termite damages were and showed me the termite eggs for reference. He is knowledgable and honest. We will definitely work with him again in the future.

Like everyone else here, we had a terrific experience. John was professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. I got the feeling that he was genuine and and not out to make a short term buck

We recently noticed swarms of poor flying ant-​like insects close to our house. We called Termite Police to schedule an appointment for an inspection.
John Kunkel, the owner, came over today. He was super polite, friendly, and above all, helpful.
After a quick determination that we DON’T have termites especially after he looked at a sample of the bugs we caught and kept in a Ziploc bag, he stuck around to answer our seemingly endless questions on termites, pests and prevention!
And he DID NOT CHARGE us for his time because he did not have to perform a full inspection even though we insisted we should pay him.
We can’t thank John enough for his honesty, professionalism and generosity.
We highly recommend Termite Police to anyone who needs help with termite inspection and control.

Termites should bring only bad feelings, but in this case I feel lucky.
My next door neighbor had his house tented for termites, so I thought we should get an inspection too. Found Termite Police on Unilocal and easily made an appointment over email. Appointment was for an exact time — no 2 or 4 hour window — and the inspector showed up at exactly the appointed time.
Inspector spends 15 – 20 minutes looking around and answering my questions. Turns out that we don’t have termites — thank goodness — and he also gave me a few suggestions about how to prevent them and what to look for in the future.
I had been quoted $ 250 for a full home inspection. Given that I didn’t need the full inspection, he charges me $ 0 for the visit. So not only is there no upsell, there’s not even a charge for the service call! Can’t recall ever having this happen in home services.

I am so glad that I called Termite Police based on a referral. We found 2 termites in our house, so we were worried. I called and described the situation. Based on what I told them about the type of termites found, they didn’t think we needed any treatments. Super honest and helpful and very knowledgeable. If we do have a problem in the future, this is definitely a company we’ll call.

Based on Unilocal review, I called them nearly two years ago. The lady on the phone was very helpful, identified our issue and apologetically requested the appointment to be almost one month from then since they were very busy.
Both father and son came and did work professionally. They identified some more issues and offered to fix it (at additional cost).
I would have given five star for that experience.
We had similar infestation again recently. I am generally a loyal customer. So I called them three times and even sent them two emails over a course of four weeks. They never even replied once. It is probably likely that they are simply too busy. Still I would, as a repeat customer, expect to get at least a simple acknowledgment.
Sadly, I will go look for another reliable termite exterminator

John called me soon after this review which I suspect he read. He was very apologetic. He did not know how the system broke down. He offered to do entire work free which I refused. Since I had not yet signed final contract with another exterminator, I asked him to come and give me estimate which he did.
His cost was reasonable and he was as as good as he has been previously. I would give him five star.
I will stay with him for all future work too. Rare to find people who care.

I had the morons at Terminix do a termite inspection (as it was included in my pest control contract). At the end of the inspection I am told that there is possible evidence of termites in a few of my rafters. The lady cannot be 100% positive, but she says that we should not take a risk and tent the house.
I asked her if instead I should get the 2 or 3 rafters in question cut in the middle and do an analysis and be 100% certain. She says that it would be better to do it after tenting the house.
Well I still did the rafter cutting and showed it to Termite police. Wanted to get a second opinion, and of course there is no evidence of termites in these rafters.
Termite police still did some pocking in the area to be sure and there were a few droppings, but not from termites but silverfish (they know the difference).
These guys did not try to sell me anything, they did not even charge me for this quick inspection. They are very professional.
I cannot judge their other work but from my small encounter, I would definitively trust them with future work.
Now I have to find another company for my pest control contract. I want to completely get rid of Terminix.

We had termite infestation in one corner of the house. Termite Police came in at the appointed hour, and in less than an hour took care of it, which by the way was in the crawl space in the basement.
They also recommended a free follow up after 90 days, so they can make sure its been taken care of completely.
Very professional folks, at a resonable price.

I recently had a great experience with Termite Police.
When we recently bought our house, the termite inspector (not from Termite Police) noted evidence of subterranean termites and recommended treatment. On the basis of recommendations here and on PAMP, I called Termite Police for a second opinion and better quote on treatment. John came out, looked at the termite tubes, and said that the infestation was probably not active and not in need of treatment. He explained his opinion very clearly and then scraped away the old termite tubes, cleaned up the resulting mess, and said to wait 90 days to see if the tubes reappeared. He offered to come again and look, too. He did not charge for his time and effort. I really appreciated his honest opinion, which saved me at least $ 500.

To be fair, this company did not actually do work for us. I have been calling around looking for a termite company to inspect/​treat/​repair a large office building. Our project was a little too large for this family owned company.
I spoke with Vanessa on the phone and she was an absolute gem. She was very knowledgeable, courteous and super helpful. She recommended a great source to find a termite company that would be able to help us. Thanks!

They may not schedule a visit the day after you call, but there is a very good reason. John gets so many recommendations that he is in great demand. But he is worth waiting for.
I tend to be impatient with large franchise trainees who want to substitute prescribed procedures for knowledge and effective service. John knows his stuff and has been in the business a long time. He takes the time to show and explain his findings, the mechanisms of wood degradation by termites, fungus and dry rot and means of treatment.
He is realistic in his recommendations, educates you about the pros and cons of each option, and doesn’t overcharge or gouge. He provided me a brief ‘seminar’ on the history of treatments of infestation and I was delighted that his expertise included treatments that didn’t simply drive termites away for a while but rather would cause the colony itself to be destroyed, and without having to resort to expensive global treatments. John Kunkel and his company have my highest recommendation.

I called the termite police and told them there was a termite armed robbery in progress. They arrived on the scene minutes later and echanged gunfire with the termites. Despite being outnumbered by about 1,000,000 to 1, the termite police captured or killed all the perpetrating insects. Actually, we just had John out to perform a localized termite treatment in our garage because his Unilocal reviews were good and his price was significantly lower than the other bids we got. He took the time to explain what he would do and how it would lead to eradication of all the termites in the area, but would not kill any termites in the rest of the house. Since there were no signs of any termites in the rest of the house, that was good enough for us.
John was very professional and seemed like a genuine nice guy who enjoys killing him some bugs. 5 stars even though he was 15 minutes late.

I can’t say enough good things about John Kunkel, who founded his own company, Termite Police, after years of working for other companies, including one completely non-​toxic one, who treated my house about 11
years ago using heaters to cook small infestations under my house.
(I have not had a recurrence here, though this company is no longer
in business.)
John was recently out to treat some termites that came in under the
roof on an upper deck, and used the least toxic treatment available —
I forget what it’s called, but it’s the same chemical used in
Advantage flea treatments for dogs, but formulated to work as a bait
for termites to carry back to their nest.
I am really nervous about toxic chemicals, so it was great to be able
to trust John to use a pretty safe but effective alternative to the
usual termite company response.
You could not find a more caring, competent professional than John!
He even offered to do some patching where I’ve known for awhile that
moisture is leaking in on the edge of the deck.
All his work is guaranteed, and I’m sure his own company will be in
business a long time!

Great experience all around working w/​these guys. I had a problem with some subterranean termites on one wall of the garage. Of the three businesses that provided me with quotes, Termite Police was the only one to suggest that I spend a fraction of the cost and only treat the affected area around the garage since there was no sign of termites anywhere else on the property. Their honesty saved me almost $ 1000 right there. They were on-​time and professional in all regards. Make sure you ask for the 10% Unilocal discount!
I’ll update this review in 2 – 3 months. By then I should know whether or not the termites have returned!

John and his son finished the dry rot work and did an amazing job matching the sidings on our old house not to mention the perfect stucco matching he did.
I have no hesitations at all recommending these guys!
