History

Established in 2012.

Before moving to the Bay Area, William Safford worked for criminal defense firms in Colorado and Ohio, handling every type of misdemeanor and felony case, from the smallest infraction to serious felonies such as drug trafficking, sex offenses, armed robbery, and violent crime. He has experience working with witness testimony, scientific/forensic evidence, and the murky depths of criminal law.

Mr. Safford is a member of the California Bar Association, California Attorneys for Criminal Justice, and the American Civil Liberties Union, and is licensed to practice law in the courts of California and the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. He lives on the peninsula, but practices law throughout the Bay Area.

Mr. Safford helped my son with his speeding ticket from Oct. 2015 to Dec. 2015. My son had above 100 mph speeding citation. Since he was tried as adult and is 17 year old, the outcome for the case looked grave. In fact, the judge was so determined to teach the teenage a lesson; he refused to let the case go when the officer did not show up in court. Mr. Safford understood my son’s worries and the teenage mentality. He planned a strategy for the next scheduled court date. He is sympathetic to our situation and understood that this was also a teachable moment for the youngster. When the police officer did not show up the 2^nd time, the case was dismissed. We had a better outcome than we hoped for, thanks to Mr. Safford! I gave him a five stars because he dealt well with our case and responsive promptly for all my inquires through email or text.

My daughter’s boyfriend had some legal issues and was very discouraged by his public defender’s progress. I called several lawyers to check options and costs. My daughter found William Safford online. I called and was very impressed by his knowledge and demeanor. He did not talk down to me as some lawyers had. His fee was extremely fair in comparison to others. He sent the contract for review, I paid the fee and he quickly started on the case. We thought maybe he could at least shorten the possible jail sentence and we would have been satisfied with that. However, it worked out that my daughters boyfriend did not do any time. After a recent legal dispute I was considering an appeal. I had contacted numerous attorneys all of which concluded that, despite having a strong case, the time and expense would not be worth it to pursue. Mr. Safford was the only one who actually reviewed my case in detail and was willing to negotiate a reasonable fee to make the appeal.
I was also very impressed with his strong understanding of the small claims process as many of the other attorneys I had spoken to had little or no experience in that arena. Though I ultimately settled out of court, I had the utmost confidence in Mr. Saffords abilities.
