Horrid law firm. I needed a basic real estate agreement drafted in lieu of a full blown prenuptial agreement. My lawyer quoted $ 2500, but asked for a $ 3000 retainer. She said we would probably get $ 500 back. She said the agreement would be recorded with the county along with a grant deed.
A couple weeks later she sent the agreement. It looked like it was generated from a basic template. Probably took her 2 hours max to create, but that was fine because it covered everything we needed.
My fiancée and I signed the agreement and the grant deed and thought we were set. A couple weeks later we get a bill for $ 4500. I eventually got it talked down to $ 500 (which brought the total to $ 3500). $ 3500 for a document I could have drafted.
But what really made me upset was the fact that they never recorded the agreement with the county. They just recorded the grant deed. When I confronted my lawer about this she said I had requested not to have the agreement recorded with the county. WHAT A RETARD!!! What would be the point of having the damn thing drafted. I think she was addicted to pain killers or something.
