Organizing the most disorganized. embarrassingly messy situations… «From caterpillar to butterfly». There’s nothing more rewarding (to me) than to overturn the most horrendous houses to cosy, comfy homes. If you have found yourself in a situation that seems overwhelming, I can change that.

Maid By Me is proactive when it comes to cleaning. Common sense is used for those long lost corners, fingerprinted windows, door and window tracks… dull and lifeless wood floors. there’s never a need to micro-​manage, however, priorities are always welcome!

You’ll never see acidics used on your marble, silver, coated lamps, stone… I have researched and know what not to use and what is safe to use. You will be shown what is used on everything and if there’s something you specifically want used, it will be.

History

Established in 2008.

I was asked by a friend of mine if I was interested in cleaning her elderly Mom’s home. I did and found a new love. Apparently it was a natural niche for me.. A client had then decided to grab her laptop and insert Maid By Me gratifying me with a five star rating and reference letter. I’ve had wonderful mentors from Renaissance/​Startup and we even did some television interviews and then onto radio with Opporunity Fund and Kiva. Now I’m growing fast and rconsidering some of my past ideas (like not having teams). It takes a long time to even find the right candidates to train, Maid By Me is more to catering to the needs of my clients. It shows with me, and my staff members are learning it too!

I’ve been in the service industry for most of my life. From 4 and 5 star hotels to hair salons.

My tendency is to cater no matter what industry I’m in. I’ve been good at it and my payoff has been exactly that… I’ve been acknowledged and praised for the efforts I’ve implemented in my work. It only seemed fit to apply that to a business venture. It worked and still is.

I was born and raised in Canada and have since married and live in the Bay area. I’ve been here close to 6 years. I have an 11 year old daughter, a couple of cats and a great husband.

My business is growing and I will be hiring and training people to cater as I do. I’m confident that through continued efforts and proper training my company wont suffer from having your and my expectations unmet. I believe in the promise of good relationships to come…

I just started using Maid by Me, and have had a great experience so far. I had been putting off getting a housecleaner for a while, and it was overdue. I was a little embarrassed at how messy my place was, as my friends like to give me a hard time for it, but was very encouraged by other reviews and comments that said Tan (the owner) was very «nonjudgmental.» I gave her a call and I’m glad I did. She was able to come by that very week, and I love my home now. Maid by Me is coming by every 2 weeks and that has been wonderful as well. I love to see the owner in charge and taking responsibility for her business. Tan is professional, friendly, and a pleasure to work with. Her employees have all been great as well, and it’s clear that Tan is very particular about who she has going out to do cleanings and representing her business as she starts to grow.

When i was living at an apartment, I used Maid By Me service quarterly for deep cleaning and I was happy with their work.
After the major renovation at our townhouse was done, I could not afford to spend the time to clean, pack and move (small items daily), work, kids, etc., all at the same time. So, I turned to Tan for desperate help. I am very particular of cleanliness, so I e-​mailed Tan what areas needed extra TLC and all. She scheduled her crews to come and clean the place so I left a note on the counter of all the things I wanted clean.
When I went to the house at the end of the day, things did not get clean the way it should be and the floor wasn’t even vacuumed soI sent an e-​mail to Tan right away.
She was very apologetic and sweet about what happened. She then scheduled herself and someone else to come clean my place the very next day. With her undeniable magic touch, the house was clean, finally. I literally did not want to touch my SS fridge! It was pure clean, no marks, whatsoever.
Tan was also very generous about sharing her tricks with me of how to clean things around the house.
To sum up:
If you want to deal with professional people, she is it!
If you want great customer service, she’s the one!
If you want your place to get pampered, she’s your solution!
Even though the first person who cleaned our house did not turn out the best as I believe it was just a minor hiccup, I still recommend Tan!

It’s been nearly 5 years since I first found Maid By Me, and I continue to be impressed every time my apartment is serviced. Here are just some of the things that Tan has done for me in the past several years that I know I won’t find with any other cleaning service:
1. Found a home for every piece of clutter I had when I first moved in and … never unpacked. She is completely non-​judgmental and lets me be weird and quirky about keeping all my boxes even though I have NO ROOM for them.
2. Spent time researching and buying organizing containers for me, asking only for straight reimbursement of actual receipt value (nothing for her time).
3. Put together 2 storage cabinets that she also bought AND carried from the store and organized things into them beautifully.
4. Organized my closet, which is really, really, really a miracle, second only to the creation of the universe.
5. Moved her schedule around every time I’m expecting a guest (especially the ‘rents), so my apartment can be nice and clean.
6. Completely packed and unpacked me after a move to another apartment unit.
7. Given me one of her Dysons when my little Eureka crapped out. Even though it was refurbished, it was in complete working order and 50x better than the dinky thing I had before.
8. Loved my two cats as if they were her own. I once left on a short trip and forgot to leave them water, and since Tan was the only person I knew who had my key, I texted her at some ungodly hour crying for help. She was at my apartment within a couple hours to take care of my cats.
Am I aware of people who have had issues with Maid By Me? Yes, and I understand their frustration. I went through the same frustrations when I was first looking for housekeeping services. However, after knowing Tan for so many years, I can honestly say that her heart is in her business and work, and she is just as, if not more, disappointed and frustrated as her customers when things aren’t done correctly and she loses even just one customer, and she always wants the chance to make things right.
Running a small business isn’t easy. There have been times I’ve noticed some minor cut corners (to be fair, my apartment is always at full mess and clutter mode by the time my turn comes around — it would take a full day to fix everything, and Tan has NEVER complained about how hard it is to work around/​through my mess), but the big picture is my apartment is SO much better each time and Tan is someone I can trust 100%, which is just invaluable when it comes to choosing a housekeeper. The peace of mind is *priceless*.

Ashley and a helper were sent — they did a mediocre job. Very low energy. Missed dusting several places which I had to show them to go over — often used a duster to move the dust around instead of a wet rag or furniture polish. Did not want a stepstool to do high places. Found dust on back of bathroom counters where they did not move things to dust under. All of the frames in my hallways had dust on the tops of them. Never had a followup call from Tannis to see how they did. Would not use them again.

I have been using the «Maid by me» service for almost a year now and I love it! Several different members of the team have helped with my home during this time and every one has done a fantastic job. I look forward to coming home after each cleaning because my home always looked more fantastic than I could imagine. I am a very forgetful person, so I have occasionally forgotten to pick up clothing/​lightly clean before my schedule day. The team never complained, even if my house was a wreck. I always came home to everything organized. Dirt was cleaned from places I didn’t even know existed. Truly a wonderful service. I would highly recommend to anyone!

Can’t say enough great things about ‘Maid By Me’ — I had hand surgery in August and started the search for housecleaning assistance. Tannis came to the rescue and provided an angel by the name of Kim, who has brilliantly been keeping our home in sparkling condition. We could not be happier! Another bonus: if you have pets (we have four indoor cats), Tannis and Kim are both pet lovers, so you can be sure that your animal family members are safe and sound when they are in charge!

I’ve used Tan’s service at my old house and then later at my apartment. Her conduct was always professional, and she and Jess (who did my place) showed much professionalism and flexibility when I was going through major life changes that warranted sudden moving and having to let go of service for a while.
Jess was always on time and did a great job. I’d recommend Tan and Jess to anybody: I love them!

I posted my review at 3:30 PM on April 16th. Within TWO hours, the owner already responded with her detailed response.
Here’s what I’d like to know… since the bulk of my review commented on her lack of communication and not responding to voicemail messages and emails (and several other clients here on Unilocal said the same thing), then why can’t the owner take that energy, effort, and responsibility and apply that to her business instead of on Unilocal???Clearly she *IS* capable of responding to communication immediately… I’d like to know why she doesn’t do that for her potential clients?
I’d like to apologize if in my previous review I somehow insinuated that the owner is dishonest, unfair, or uncaring, as she claimed in her response. She actually strikes me as a professional, honest businesswoman who has high standards. I was really only focusing on her lack of communication. And I was guessing on her rates, as I couldn’t remember. I think her flat rates are very fair!
Not returning clients’ phone calls or emails is NOT COOL! Not following up after a cleaning appointment is not cool, nor is it cool to say you’ll call us to confirm our appointment for the next day and never do. That sucks — I gave this business one star because of the complete lack of communication from the owner. I was so let down!
Each time a Unilocaler on here complained about Maid By Me, it was because of the owner’s lack of communication. You would think that all it would take would be ONE bad review for the owner to then say «Wow, I didn’t realize that my not returning calls and emails to potential clients is a bad business practice. I will never do that again and make a strong effort to check my voicemail and emails and return them immediately. If I say I will call to confirm a cleaning appointment, I will DO IT. If I tell a potential client that I will follow up after she received her first cleaning appointment, I will DO IT.»
Instead, Maid By Me would normally get 5 stars (the girl who cleaned my house twice was wonderful!) but is deeply marred by the owner’s lack of communication. I’m not the only one who this has happened to, but I hope the owner reads this and makes some positive changes to her business model! That would be awesome!

Been using Tan (Maid by Me) for a few months, and she is great. She is definitely busy (proof that people are happy with her service), but she has always been very communicative and flexible.
I complained about something super minor (I am notoriously hard to please), and Tan took it VERY seriously. She made sure she understood exactly what I wanted changed, and since then it has been absolutely perfect.

Updating my review of Tan’s business, because I think that great service should get repeated great reviews.
We’re expecting our first baby and Tan and crew have gone out of their way to keep the house sparkling, including doing an extra-​special job on the nursery-​to-​be. My husband and I both are so happy when we come home on cleaning days, because we know the place will be spotless and cheerful.
On the scheduling challenges referenced by another reviewer… every once in a while Tan has called or e-​mailed and asked to change my day or time. The only reason she ever asks, though, is because she wants the best, most reliable people to come to my house. Tan’s very picky about who she hires. So I know that if she needs a change it’s because she wants only great people in the house. She’s never going to let someone new or that she does’t trust into my home (unlike some other services that will send just anyone). I really appreciate that.

I tried to book Maid by me housecleaning and Tannis told me she was booked one week out. I was fine with that, and scheduled for a week and a half later. She was supposed to send two people on a Friday at 12:30pm. The night before, she said one of her crew quit and that she could send one person at 1:30pm instead. I said that was fine, but that I needed to leave by 5:30, so I wanted to make sure 4 hours was enough time the this person to do the whole job.
She emailed me later and asked if it would be ok to reschedule for Saturday instead. I said ok and asked if it was going to be one or two people, since I needed to schedule my day, but wanted to be around to supervise the first time. She said one person and I was ok with that. On Saturday morning, she emailed me to say the person she was going to send also quit on her and she had no one else to do my house and if I could reschedule for the following Saturday. Are you kidding me?
She not only wasted my time, but caused me to waste a week and a half waiting for her, when I could have been researching another housecleaning company. She knew my housecleaner had quit and I was trying to find a replacement asap. She kept saying she was about to hire and train, which is another issue I was worried about, because I don’t want to be a guinea pig for someone who is new and may not do a great job or might not be honest.
I wish she had told me from the beginning that she cannot take on new clients, like I found from another housecleaning crew on Unilocal.It’s honest and shows they really care about their work, instead of wasting people’s time and then flaking out. Unprofessional and disorganized.

I’ve been using Tan for quite a few months, based on her Unilocal ratings, and she has consistently gone above and beyond the call of duty to not only clean my home exactly the way I want, she also finds and tells me about things that only I can deal with that escape my attention. Today it was water in the bottom of my refrigerator and a nest of a bazillion baby spiders in a bathroom I never use. Ack! Of course, she cleaned out all the water and the spiders, so I *needed* her to tell me about it; all the evidence is gone. No fun to deal with, but I’m glad I know about them, and wouldn’t have if it hadn’t been for Tan. She even sent me links to remedies for the spiders and told me the refrigerator problem is probably the condenser (I am clueless). She has also manages to do many other things, like clean stains out of my carpet that had been there since before I moved in in 1998, and for all this terrific service charges no more than Merry Maids did for their haphazard and shoddy work. I’m one of her biggest fans.

Tannis is the best house cleaner I know. She does so much for her clients. Most of her clients are her friends because she gets to know them on a personal level to see what they prefer, even if it’s a different way of making the bed that makes them happier. I wok for her and i see the how she goes out of her way to do extra things for her clients, such as buying flowers and putting them in the guest room when she knows that they will be having guests. She is just an amazing person all in all. You can never go wrong with her, she is THE BEST. She not only cleans the house but she give her clients the opportunity to come home to a clean house and just relax and not have to worry about the cleaning (because it is already done!) She feels better about her job, then anyone I know. I can honestly say that she is what inspired me to do just a great job working for her! I love Tan.

Tan and Marisol are the best! They truly do a wonderful job. Marisol does most of the cleaning at my place and when I come home after she’s been there I spend the better part of an hour sighing in happiness and singing about how much I love Marisol (the dogs join in).
I fought with my husband for years to let me hire someone to help with the housework. He finally gave in when I did it without his knowledge and he saw how happy and how much more relaxed I was. Working full time and going to school part-​time does not leave much for the house. This was the best decision I ever made! Even my friend who has had a housekeeper her whole life says that I lucked out with Maid by Me!

Tannis Harrison, who runs Maid by Me, has been cleaning our house in Woodside for the better part of a year now. Tannis is truly a master at what she does, and she has found a way to turn extraordinary talent into a vocation. What looks like a fine list of recommendations for any other housecleaner — pays attention to detail, always timely, extremely thorough — is just a kind of starting baseline for Tannis. On top of these things, she is always seeking new tips on how to clean different surfaces with healthy cleaning products, and doing her best to learn from other master level cleaners. She also goes above and beyond on a regular basis, whether it’s rearranging her schedule to help us prepare for a last minute event, using excellent judgment about how to gently organize the clutter we leave on the table or desk, or leaving guests flowers and a welcome note.
Tannis is also just a joy to work with. She’s friendly and easy to talk with, and we found that we developed a trusting relationship upon her first visit. But the best thing about working with Tannis is just how much she loves her job. This is her chosen line of work, and it’s one thing (probably among several) that she truly excels at. I can’t say enough about what a difference it makes to work with people who love what they do, and who give their very best efforts not just to please their client, but because that’s just the level at which they operate.
Although I always come home impressed by how GOOD everything looks, I am sure I only ever attend to 50% of what Tannis actually does. Tannis pays attention to everything — corners, spaces behind books, the grout in the shower that is high enough that you don’t see it every day. And that’s the beauty of it… she will keep customizing her efforts to make your home look as good as it can, even if you won’t ever notice certain things in particular. We will continue to ask Tannis to clean our house as long as she’s willing! I recommend her with my highest regard.
