Leaf & Petal

I don’t rate retail shops often but walked in looking for a particular type of shirt. First woman I saw and asked a question of looked me dead in the eye, finished folding her clothes and turned and walked into the back w.o. so much as a smile of acknowledgement. Ouch. I believe it was the middle woman in the photo. I obviously did not fit the shopper profile she wanted to greet.
Fortunately the woman in left of photo was pleasant and helpful. I ended up purchasing bc I knew what I wanted and found something although the experience was somewhat soured.
What is funny to me is that I don’t like shopping but I know what I want and I’m quick to find it. I believe that you get better fitting and longer lasting items if you buy quality. All in all when I do shop I am an quick, considerable sale w little customer service required. It would seem to be worthwhile to pretend to be welcoming for 20 mins. Or smile.
Or maybe the average purchase in this shop is $ 1000 and it really isn’t worth it. Then what can I tell you?

Countless times I witnessed them whispering about the other customers in the store just saying very tactless things. I also felt very worked over when buying at this place. Like they had no genuine care besides seeing if Id spend a bunch of money. I feel sorry for the people that go in there.

I’m shocked when I see negative reviews. I have found the staff incredibly helpful. They often suggests things I would never have tried on and they turn out to be perfect. Yes their prices are high but so is the quality. I find I wear things I bought there for years. When I need a special outfit and have no idea what to wear (e.g. interview at Google and I’m over 50…) they come up with the perfect thing.

I love boutique stores. Came in here after lunch at Pastis last time. The pretentious girl working rolled her eyes before speaking and asked something along the lines of, «WHAT do you want?!» in such a manner that it was obvious she thought I couldn’t afford to shop there. Don’t indirectly call your potential customers poor. Seriously.
The way she acted was almost as if I was Julia Roberts in the movie, «Pretty Woman» (except I didn’t look like a H!), as if she didn’t want to waste her energy on someone who wouldn’t purchase something. I bet she practices being like that in her spare time. She had the scene down to the T.
Even if I did want to buy something, the way I was treated would not allow me to spend half a penny in that store. It’s fine, I’m not interested in wearing goddy, old lady clothing anyways. If I rode my bike there, it’d be time for me to «leaf and petal».

Not only is customer service lacking, the return policy is so 1950’s. They are catering to a clientele that must have nothing but time on their hands. They only let you return after 3 days for a full refund or 2 weeks for store credit. I found this out the hard way — I went in a Saturday and bought a bunch of things — that I loved, but did not have the time to try things on with my kids with me. I was able to try things on at home and decided to keep a couple of items and return the rest. I was not able to get back to the store until the following Saturday (yes, a whole 7 days later) and was only able to get store credit for my return.
I love their merchandise, I would have been a dedicated customer, but knowing that I can not buy something and try it on with shoes at home and return it a week later for a refund, completely turns me off.
Leaf & Petal: Some of us have jobs and small children and cant make it back in three days. Wake up and realize that we live in an age of Zappos: a society that is customer focused!

I have a love/​hate relationship with you, Leaf & Petal. You have cute clothes, but the prices vary in a major way. And you are always full of idiots. And I always forget about how cute your shoes and accessories are. So when I’ve finished rifling through the racks of clothes for hours, I suddenly remember about the extras, and then spend more hours perusing your handbags and sunglasses and belts.
Screw you, Leaf & Petal.
I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it. Come back.

Over 10 years I have purchased several items here and still wear most of those items. The quality is great and the prices reflect that. I purchased a suit, jeans, shirts, boots, and shoes. I usually stop by since I work close by and I have a particular item that I need. One time I needed a black dress for a party. I left 20 minutes later with a dress and shoes — perfect! More recently, I stopped in to get a sweater to coordinate with an orange dress. The salesperson helped me find a great little sweater that is now one of my favorites.
They carry unique pieces and also high quality ordinary pieces that are perfect for work. I haven’t had any bad experiences with the service like some others have complained about.

It’s never nice to ignore potential customers. We walked in and I browsed through racks of items and not once did anyone acknowledged us — not a nod, a smile or a «hello».

Very cute items, I haven’t done a full sweep of the store but I did see large brands ex: DVF — the ladies are personable and welcoming.
I found the cutest luggages at this store, although I cannot justify spending $ 300 on luggage. I’m sure there’s some great finds!

This store has some pretty things, but the customer service is very poor. I wanted to purchase an expensive jacket, but the sleeves needed shortening and I wanted to first take it to a tailor to see if this was possible as there were buttons and stichting that may not allow for this. Their return policy is 3 days and it was on a Friday, so I asked the owner/​mgr if it would be possible to have an extra day to return if needed after I purchase the jacket to allow me to take the jacket to my tailor on Monday and see if it was possible to shorten the sleeves and she said no. This was not my only negative experience in this store, but it was enough to stop me from shopping there again.

Sister store to Cassis. Came here to check out their sale and walked out poorer but with some super-​hot jeans and tops and also got a great deal on a really sexy LBD. They have a huge selection of pricey but cute jeans and pants. I don’t mind paying a bit more for a really great pair of jeans that I’ll wear a lot. Bonus points for giving me a credit on the cocktail dress I bought a couple weeks before at Cassis which I found here on sale! I’ll be back once my checking account recovers… ouch!

I read some of the other reviews and was very surprised that some thought poorly of the staff. I have shopped here for years and have always found the staff to be helpful without being pushy. The manager Judy will call me if something comes in that I might like. This is a very pleasant low key way to shop with unique items you will not find elsewhere (and everywhere).All of my favorite clothes were purchased here and I like that they keep bringing in new designers.

Upscale (i.e. $$$) but original casual clothing. If you want a more distinctive look than what you’ll find at Stanford Mall, come to Leaf & Petal. I usually wait to shop their sales a couple times a year so I don’t get caught up in sticker shock. I agree with another person here who said that when you find an item you really like, you’ll wear it for a really long time.

I think Leaf & Petal has a wonderful selection of clothing and accessories — love, love, love the drawers and drawers of jewelry that you can open yourself! Also, the gorgeous handbags.
The staff are very cheerful and nice. The store is clean, very orderly and peaceful — a great environment for shopping. This was my first visit and I did not have much time — but, I will say this… they have lots of hip styles/​designers. — and it is very well merchandised. Definitely sophisticated and for the over 33 crowd [which I am], but not an «old lady» in sight!
This is a boutique, so expect to pay more. And if you want something special or to treat yourself… definitely check out Leaf & Petal. I’ll be back!

Hit or miss. When you hit, you find something truly amazing that you’ll wear forever. But most of the time it’s a miss. They often start carrying brands before the big chains like Neiman Marcus picks them up. Who ever their buyer is, she’s sure got an eye for the up and coming!

thisis a cute store that reminds me a bit of a chico’s but more upscale. they have a good selection of earrings and necklaces. i came here to walk off my bagel the other day, b/​c they were having a big sale. i made out w/​a trina turk shirtdress and two pairs of earrings even tho i had no intention of spending any money, but hey, who can pass up a sale?

Okay, I’m older now and the body is not in the hard shape it used to be in. What’s more, I can’t (or really shouldn’t) wear twenty-​something clothing. Leaf and Petal is the answer to 35+ something year olds. Fashionable clothing that make you look great come at a price tag. Expect to pay at least $ 150+ for a pair of everyday pants. But you’ll look great.
I find the service a little lacking at times. The staff can ignore you.

Pretty clothes but nothing I would (or could) wear… some of their SALE designer jeans are nice but they’re all size –8 so they never quite fit. Love the jewelry but if you don’t have a billion dollars to throw around, just go to Clair’s.

If Malika is still there you MUST get her to help you. She is a delightful French woman with the amazing ability to look at you and pick out clothes that are different in just the right way. I have trusted her opinion for over four years now and she has never steered me wrong. Thanks Mama for introducing me.

Leaf and Petal is a great little women’s clothing boutique in Old Town Palo Alto. Right next to Brioche (makes a great Sunday morning combo) this little store offers items ranging from Custo shirts and sweaters to some of the more popular premium denim brands. The satff is pretty friendly, though I am not so sure of their expertise. One thing that’s a little different about Leaf and Petal is that they seem to organize the clothing by color value, so you can pretty easily see all the options you have for putting together a nicely matching outfit, or just the variety of pieces int eh store.
