Hengehold Trucks

I recently drove from Sacramento to Palo Alto to purchase a work van. We had looked online and there arent alot of places around that sell these nice of vehicles. The staff was amazing and friendly. There inventory was accurate and exact as advertised. I would definitely recommend this for anyone in Northern California as a place to purchase a great work vehicle.

Great price. Responsive to questions. Rented a 12 person van for a 24 hour running relay.
Just a reminder that you need to bring proof on insurance.

We rented a truck from Hengehold for Burning Man. The truck was in great shape, and they were clear and upfront in what to do from a cleaning perspective to ensure that we didn’t get charged a cleaning fee.
As other reviewers have pointed out, they do not offer liability insurance at any price, which is problematic since many standard auto insurance policies don’t extend coverage to trucks. Out of the 5 people in our group, 2 of us had policies that covered trucks and 3 didn’t. Henghold tries to sell you CDW insurance, which is probably the wrong choice for everyone since you either have an auto policy that covers trucks or you don’t — and if you don’t, you’re breaking the law in California by driving a Hengehold truck without insurance.
Budget truck rentals were about the same price, and they do offer a variety of insurance options.
The other *super annoying* thing was that twice after we rented the truck, we received billing notices from the golden gate bridge for tolls on days that we did not have the truck rented. When we called Henghold about this they were kind of like, oh yeah, whatever, just send the golden gate toll people a copy of your rental agreement [click]. Apparently it’s just too complicated for them to keep track of who had which truck on which day.

In helping my dad move from Palo Alto to Los Altos I found:
— my Sega Genesis, Playstation 1, and Ninento 64
— a picture of myself from my junior prom
— a complete bucket of Lego’s
— a caricature of myself, presumably from high school, with a cartoon boy in the background with swoony eyes
— a gold watch which I tried to throw away but my husband forced me to keep (and we ended up selling it to a gold place for 300 bucks)
The truck place was awesome when we returned the truck… we had reserved for 2 days but they only charged for the time we used it. Will edit with pricing information once the rental experience is over and I can safely feel like no further charges will be added to my credit card.

Hengehold was great. They were professional and affordable, and went the extra mile.
For example, we returned the truck two hours after our return time but they only charged for us one day. We also forgot to put gas into the tank before returning the truck but they only charged us the $ 4/​gallon everyday rate. The van was clean and worked well.
We’d happily rent from Hengehold again. Thanks, guys!

I would recommend those guys: had no idea renting a truck would be so easy. beats begging friends to borrow theirs for sure.
Paperwork was fast.
Guys are nice.
Trucks are clean.
Have dollies for rent, blankets, other moving stuff.
I’m not sure they advertise that rate, but they do have $ 19 or $ 25 rate for 4 hour rental (pick up before noon). Came at about $ 37 total for me last time.

Bought three work vehicles from these guys. Better pricing than expected and customer service is excellent. We got really busy and needed two trucks immediately and they jumped through all the hoops to make it work. Will be back soon for more. Thank you, Troy!

I am a general contractor from Marin County and I found this place on the internet. They have top shelf trucks and vans. The sales people are nice. I bought a van for $ 20,000 and they were willing to help me finance it, but I found financing elsewhere. The only drawback was the Warranty they sold me. The warranty company is very hard to deal with and they don’t want to pay for anything. When I warranty something I’ve built, a warranty means a warranty. Period. It’s a shame that such a quality organization like Hengehold uses such a poor warranty company. Five stars for Hengehold, one star for the warranty company.

You never know what you may find when you shop for a used truck on the internet. Hengehold had a truck that I thought I might be interested in so we made a 3 hour trip to look at the truck.
I could not have expected a better experience. Annie had the truck pulled up in front waiting for my arrival and everyone was friendly and helpful. No «salesman» trying to make the sale just a sincere offering of assistance if we wanted it. I looked around at other trucks in their inventory, no junk, just nice trucks in great condition.
We bought the truck and headed home happy. They offered to help us in the future by looking for a truck to fit our needs if they didn’t have it in stock. We’ll be back, the best used truck buying experience that I’ve ever had.

Rented a 20 ft flatbed truck for a load of lumber I had to pick up and had excellent service from George in the rental office. I found them to be very helpful and fair. I will rent from them again.

just asked about cardboard materials for storage. Jay was very helpful and knowledgable, even though he could not sell me the specialized items I needed.

So my review is for a PURCHASE. Nice cheap trucks, well below the KBB value. So much so that my bank loan officer complained that my used truck was 2k BELOW the value, so I told her «whats the problem, im trying to save money!»
I got a mechanic inspection AND they made me an extra copy of the keys, we are talking about the chip embedded keys.

As you’ve probably heard, it’s pretty great. Their service is super friendly, you can rent a truck for one day on Sunday even though they are closed, and they don’t dick you around for damages or gas when you return it. They even have a website where you can reserve a truck and see what everything costs right down to the hand truck and furniture pads to avoid surprises.
Except for one.
When you walk in there, there are huge signs everywhere telling you that your regular auto insurance probably won’t cover you if you incur any damage to the rental truck — and that they will sell you a «collision damage waiver» (CDW) to cover you that just happens to increase your base rental rate by literally 50%.
Not keen to be scared into a 50% price gouge, I called my insurance company, State Farm. After being transferred between three operators (on a Saturday morning — I had to call the «claims» number to get a hold of someone as the info line had no weekend hours), I learned that indeed, I was fully covered, including on the largest truck Hengehold would rent me. CDW declined, 50% gouge fee saved.
A company that has figured out how to put every little detail about your rental online, down to the price of the bulk discount on furniture pads, should clearly be able to advertise the CDW price and availability on the website. They don’t.
Another fun wrinkle on this one is that the most expensive (and probably most common) damage you can cause — by observing insufficient overhead clearance when driving your truck — is _​not_​covered by the CDW, which appears in a much smaller font on their signs. There is, however, a pretty awesome photo of a truck whose top was demolished by a tree or bridge. Didn’t really scare me like it was supposed to, but was pretty cool to look at.
But I should probably thank them. By gouging other customers with the CDW, they can charge people like me a lower base rate. No complaints! In fact, go over to Hengehold right now, rent a truck, and be sure to get the CDW! I want to keep paying lower rates.

Customer service has been very good with this business. My last two rentals were at this place. The price is on the medium side, but the value is on the high side. It is the best place to rent from for high miles and ease of rental. The trucks and vans are in great condition compared to past rentals.
Here is where they get five starts from me. I rented a truck to go green and buy used furnishings for my new salon. I picked up from three salons so I had to drive to San Francisco, East Bay and South Bay and pull it off in one weekend. I had some trouble getting the truck to start and at the end of my rental time. The trouble was that I could not get the truck to start here and there. On the last night it would not start at all. I called AAA and he could not get it to start. I had to abandon the truck in a safe place and call Hengehold.
They were awesome about this. They were out to pick up the truck very fast and had the problem solved in a short time. They made having this problem easy on me. I especially appreciate the level of honesty from the manager. The problem was simple and very human. A new key was made for the truck just before I rented it. The key was tested and it worked. When it was made a very small detail was left out so if the key was flipped, it would not start the truck. This is why I had a few problems starting it. The manager called me back to let me know that they had discarded the key and made some changes that would keep this from happening in the future. He went out of his way to call and let me know.
What more can I ask for in a rental business. A safe truck in great condition, ease of rental, peace of mind, and a fair price for something that is above the rest of the rental places out there.
I’ll go back to Hengehold next time I am in need of a truck or van rental.

Hengehold was the best truck-​rental experience I’ve ever had. The whole process was light years ahead of the usual shitty U-​Haul service and shakedown.
I paid $ 114 for 24-​hour rental of a 15′ box truck with insurance, 12 clean blanket pads and a hand truck. I only drove about 15 miles total with it, but I actually enjoyed driving it. The truck was in idea condition and we had multiple smooth rides despite large bumps in the rode. No damage to valuables.
I wish other companies had customer service like Hengehold trucks. The guy (Dan?) was a breeze to deal with. I’ll rent with them again.

This is the best truck rental place I’ve ever used.
My work rents from them a lot and the prices are slightly higher than places like UHaul or Budget, but the service and the trucks are 10-​times better at Hengehold.
the small liftgate trucks are fantastic. I rent them about once a month and they’re easy to drive and very useful. I love the place and the guys who work there are really nice.
No better place to rent from!

Penske, it is the way to go.
Penske is half the price, and their trucks are 4-​times better than U-​Haul. So using rudimentary mathematics, that would make Penske approximately 4 times better than the useless excuse for a trucking company.
The truck I was given was clean, got much better gas mileage than the U-​Hauls I have rented in the past, and was infinitely more comfortable.
The only downside to Penske is that they have less pick-​up/​drop-​off locations than their competitors, but that is a small inconvenience for better trucks, better service, and a much cheaper cost.
