Hassett ACE Hardware

I always go to ace on alma for my local hardware. If I could give 6 stars I would. They have great service and a pretty wide selection of hardware.
Recently, I’ve been for various school and home improvement projects and I’m impressed by the knowledge and helpfulness of the staff.
Whether it was finding the correct fasteners, recommending lighting fixtures, or choosing potting soil, Coron had a fantastic attitude and clearly knew what he was doing. Shoutout to him for doing a great job.

This place is simply amazing. And no, I’m not giving them 5 dazzling stars just because they are pet friendly and gave my puppy a treat. But the extra pet schmoozing sure puts a smile on my face! and my pooches!
This is my neighborhood hardware store. It’s a little cramped inside but the customer service here is above and beyond. Home Depot and Lowes should take note from these little guys because they are so helpful! I always leave satisfied and c’mon, it’s a hardware store for goodness sake! You can eat any of the stuff in here!
I’ve come in a couple times and I can tell you, I never leave without being asked if I need help! Someone is always there to assist me and they’ll do extra research and search high and low just to help you find what you need. Last time I came to find an LED lightbulb and the associate searched the shelves high and low to help me find the perfect matching one. Kudos!
They remind me of the Trader Joes of hardware, fast and friendly service. In fact I don’t mind paying a little more knowing that someone took their time to help me find what I need.

On the corner of Alma and Channing in PA, so convenient, and they have everything you can think of or need. You don’t have to drive down to Home Depot — this is so much better for immediate needs. Smaller nicer store with great customer service. I’d check them out first before heading to Lowe’s.

I just came back from this place and customer service was excellent. My boss wanted a piece of metal siding trimmed and this was the 2^nd hardware store that I’ve called. The first store couldn’t help me so I called this place. The guy that picked up the phone, told me to bring what I wanted to cut and they’ll try their best to help me. While waiting for my metal siding to be trimmed, every employee that saw me, greeted me and even asked if I’ve been helped. In the end, the service was free and they even gave me 10% off on something that I’ve purchased. For such a small store, I see more employees here than at the other major chain stores. In the future, I’ll just head here to buy what I need for my company.

Fantastic hardware store, packed full of everything you could want, into their relatively narrow aisles. It’s worth trying them out as they have never let me down. Their selection is great and their staff is superb. There is no other hardware store I have ever experienced, in decades, that has a staff this experienced and helpful. Even when they get a new person, they are helpful and quickly call for help on their earpiece so I can locate what I need very quickly, get in and out super fast and always be happy with my purchases.
They even have their own line of tools with a lifetime guarantee, I have always been completely satisfied with their tools and they always seem to have exactly what I need. The staff is so helpful that when I returned a second time for one of their lovely Torx™ screwdrivers, the employee suggested that I get a set so I would save money in the long run. He was correct, I went back for more and would have saved a few bucks, they are that good.
I’ve tried other hardware stores and they all come up short, even the big ones, these guys have old school smarts and friendliness that I really would like to see return to all stores.
Even when I come up with an odd request (because I’m trying to improve the function of something around the house, they work with me and find exactly the odd combination of parts I need to upgrade old appliances.
Their service is superb and I recommend them to all my family and friends.

Very helpful employee working the cash register! He showed me exactly where to find the type of battery I needed, found the correct one, and changed it out with the store tools for me. All while he was supposed to be on register (there was no one there, of course)! He was great at multi-​tasking and giving his best to both. I will make sure to return here for any hardware I need in the future!

I look for 2 things in a hardware store: 1) awesome staff/​service that are helpful + excited about making things and 2) having what I need. This place has both. I went in with a few projects in mind and not exactly sure of what I wanted and they helped with exciting and smiling faces! Came out with exactly what I needed!

I always find what i need for fixing the small little things around the home, They really know how to make their customers feel helped and, directed to what i needed. Glad they are within close reach and accessible.

I love this place. The staff is always eager to help me find what I need, and the store is well organized and well stocked. Hassett is always my first stop when I need to make a repair.

I don’t know how this hardware store can afford to be in the heart of Palo Alto but they are friendly and knowledgable!

ACE hardware in Palo Alto is my go to place for all of my house repair and painting needs. I’ve been going there for 5 or 6 years and I am incredibly impressed by the customer service and by the fact that ACE always has what I need and then more. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and if there is something they are not sure about they ask another staff member or say «I don’t know.» Places like Home Depot should send their employees to ACE for customer service training. Also, ACE is a full service center. They seem to have everything in stock and in sufficient numbers to meet everyone’s needs.
I like shopping in my neighborhood and supporting local businesses and ACE is a jewel of a place and I would never consider going some place else for my home repair and painting needs. Right on ACE.

I love this little hardware store in Palo Alto. I used to live down the street so it was a very convenient place to run in for all my hardware needs.
They are friendly and knowledgable and have even helped me complete random projects with their advice (and sometimes more on the creative side than the usual questions). Their return policy is good and easy when you need to do so.
For Unilocalers: I have gotten free key making just by checking in.

I *love* this store! The employees are so incredibly helpful, and there’s lots of employees so you don’t have to wait or track someone down. The store has such a huge stock of products, it’s amazing they can fit it all into one store. I only wish they had lumber, that way I would never have to set foot in another Home Depot for the rest of my life.
I recommend this store HANDS DOWN.

They were able to make a copy of my key in 20 seconds. I’d previously gotten a copy of it done in cvs and it didn’t work — this one did. I also forgot my wallet and they were kind enough to tell me to just pay them back $ 2.15 the next time. Thank you :)

Such a great neighborhood hardware store. It reminds me of an old fashioned type of general store. They have everything you can possibly need for home repairs, cleaning products, & paint. They also throw in some holiday decorations & snacks (near the front of the store). Service has been nothing but fantastic every time I’ve come in. Extremely friendly folks that are happy to help. I’ve had keys made here & done a few work errands for my employer so it’s a convenient location for me. Great little store, check them out for your home needs.

I’m going to revise my review based on the ripoff that is the «Monster High Speed HDMI Cable With Ethernet (140 052 – 00)». They apologized about an earlier version of this update, and they’re getting their stars back, but as far as I know they still haven’t taken this ridiculous item off the shelf, nor have they started carrying something more reasonable alongside it.
Look. I have no idea about modern AV wiring. But my new roommates wanted a TV to watch some sort of sportsball, and I said I was fine with it as long as we could hide all the extraneous boxes in a closet.
So, in a hurry to get my roommates their beloved sportsball in time for the start of the «pre-​season» of one or the other ball game… I go to ACE and pick up the cheapest 25′ HDMI cables. For $ 69.99 each.
Is it expensive? Sure, but what do I know about HDMI cables? For all I know, they have active electronics in them, like Apple’s lightning. And besides, ACE may not be Walmart, but their prices are usually pretty reasonable. So I assume this must just be what this stuff costs, I grit my teeth, and I buy it.
STOOPID! The best-​selling 25′ HDMI cable on Amazon is $ 6.99! And it has 4 stars! A competing brand with 5 stars, supporting ethernet and «audio return», costs $ 13.99!
This really pisses me off. I trusted ACE. I’m a busy guy and sometimes I don’t have the time to shop around for the cheapest thing. I rely on ACE to make sure they are charging me a roughly reasonable price. They don’t need to be the absolute cheapest option. They can charge some markup for the fact that they actually have sales clerks that know what it is they’re selling. Fine.
But overcharging 10x for a commodity product? Taking advantage of people who are unfamiliar with the tech at hand and have no idea what a normal price is?
That’s not okay. I was told that ACE corporate only provides Monster Cable and they’d have to order anything else separate. Fine. For all I care, they can order the cables on Amazon and charge me a 50% markup. Actually, I’d even be happy if they just didn’t carry HDMI cables at all and just sent customers to Fry’s.
But $ 69.99 for a $ 10 – 20 cable is not okay.

I work in downtown Palo Alto and as much as a dread having to fix up things around the house, I’m incredibly thankful to know that everyone at this store will go out of their way to help any customer.
Not only is everyone knowledgeable, but they are all also honest, have a genuinely upbeat attitude, and always help me get exactly what I need.
Once I brought in my car key because I’d kind of stripped that small screw while trying to remove it to change out the battery. I swear the guy at the key copy center in the back spent 20 minutes trying every trick up his sleeve! Even I wanted to give up at several points, but he was SO persistent — other employees got involved, he kept getting out different tools, etc. I was so happy when he finally removed that screw that I wanted to hug him! He gave me a replacement screw for free (and often when I’ve come in looking for a small, very specific item like that they’ll insist I just take it for free).
Thank you, ACE, for making home improvement a breeze! I’ve talked to the owner (taking over this business from his father) and thanked him as well — what a friendly guy! You manage an amazing store.

Wow. I got out of work near University and my car was dead because I’d left the lights on, so I came to Ace Hardware to see if they had car chargers. When I found the car chargers I asked one of the guys if they came pre-​charged or if they needed to be charged at home making it of no help to me in the moment.
The guy that helped me, Casey, said ‘yeah they need to be charged, where is your car?” I told him it was a couple of blocks away and he said, «I’ll give you a jump if that helps.» He didn’t even skip a beat from the question to his offer to help. I was a little flabbergasted until I saw the back of his uniform vest, which read:

The guy grabbed a pair of jumpers off the shelf in case the returned ones he was going to use didn’t work and drove me to my car in their paint van. We jumped my car and I was on the road in less than 20 minutes from the time I realized my car was dead, it was crazy.
Even crazier, I tried to give the guy a $ 20 tip and he refused it, saying he’d rather me write a good Unilocal review for his shop. Here ya go Casey, kudos and bravo, for one of the best customer service experiences I’ve had in memory.

Confessional: I love hardware stores… they are the closest to retro variety stores as you can get these days. As I walk past the shiny red wheelbarrows outside, I wonder what, if any, seasonal things I will find. By seasonal, I mean orange and fall colored things and things that come in handy for the Fall season I don’t think of by myself.
Well hello… Halloween gigantic ghost man that is at least 12 feet tall hanging from the ceiling, the first of many seasonal things I spy right at the entrance. Whoa… that thing is BIG!
But then… I can’t believe my eyes… is that a blo mold of yesteryear?! Oh I didn’t think they made these anymore. But here is a spanking new blo mold of a 2 foot sweet faced ghost perched on a grinning pumpkin that lights from within. I have one exactly like it albeit faded and dented yet it gets squeals of surprise from little ones drawn to it for Halloween night. Lots of kids have had their pictures taken with my Halloween decoration. Moving on!
An inventory of another blo mold of a ghost holding a jack o lantern sit atop the top shelf if you look up. Collapsesable jointed spiders and other décor making storing easy.
Next stop, kitchen aisle. Wow! Warps shelf liner, the best liner ever! Clear plastic on rolls for more custom shelf lining and oilcloth. Paper doilies, cute canning labels, gadgets… I picked up a heavy duty roasting rack for the best roasted turkey ever, I hope!
Next, garden. I liked a googley eyed plastic elephant water can. Of course the water came out of his trunk. Pretty cute!
Lots of customers with household problems getting instruction and I can’t remember how many times I was asked if I needed any help as I meandered through the store.
Fun place to shop for Halloween and find things you never thought to buy.

Okay, this place deserves four stars just for not being Home Depot or Lowe’s. I despise Home Depot and Lowe’s.
They are a cute neighborhood Ace Hardware store with a fantastic selection. If you are a do-​it-​yourself type of person, this is the place for you. I’m not sure that they market themselves to contractors and I don’t think they should. Their selection of merchandise is so varied, I doubt it would appeal to the mass purchase consumer.
The employees are knowledgable, kind and helpful without being overly so. They directed me to the right spot both time I came in today AND remembered me. Impressive.
