Reading the other Unilocal reviews, I can’t help but think that there are two guys with the same name. The Gustavo who has helped us three different times does know about roofs but is primarily a carpenter/​handyman/​gutter cleaner. He’s very responsible, responsive, on time and very sensitive to the homeowner’s job cost. The «good Gustavo» can be reached at

BEWARE! This guy operates under several aliases– Sunrise Roofing, Peninsula… they are all a scam.
This is my review when this guy did a job for us putting on a new flat roof:
BEWARE! Scam Artist! LEFT MY ROOF IN SHAMBLES AND RAN WITH MONEY.
I could go on and on with my story, and proof with photos and videos– I’ll make it short and simple though.
Got our flat roof redone in April and after the first rain, there were huge puddles still on the roof. Ivan (who we thought was in charge) admitted it they «messed up» and needed to redo part of it. They came back to fix it and did a quick, short job. While doing it, they shot a nail through the roof of the garage and all the insulation and inside of the roof were soaked. They then decided to put a drain in our BRAND NEW roof to fix the problem even though we didn’t think that was a good idea, they were the «professionals» so we let them. Next rain, the ENTIRE ROOM FLOODS and they come back and cut out more sheet rock and leave a bare whole in the roof.
We finally call and demand a refund and Ivan says we have to talk to Gustavo Reyes, the owner. He comes out, looks at the roof, and even calls his partner’s drain «dodgy». He offers us options, but at this point, we just want our money back because we don’t trust their work. Gustavo agrees, then takes over a month to finally give half the money back, then STOPS RESPONDING and NEVER GAVE THE REST OF THE MONEY. His last text to us said, «I am not rich.» Thanks. Neither are we. That’s why we need the money to pay for a new roof. We’ll be taking him to court. So HOMEOWNERS, BEWARE. I doubt the good reviews are even real.
Oh yea, by the way. FAKE LICENSE number! We went through the state and the number advertised on the truck says «not valid in CA». No surprise there.

I saw all 5 stars, had a leak during winter rain season in Dec 2012, gustavo was quick to come out and quoted me very competitively low (i thought at the time since he works for himself that’s the reason)
Wrote me a proposal to remove my roof and install a new one with 10 year warranty. All seemed well, he never sent me pictures as promised so that’s why I never wrote my review until more time passed.
Sold my house and the nightmare begins once winter rain hits, I’m told there’s a leak. The buyers of my house get roofers to look at it and I’m horrified.
The work he did was BAD patchup, never removed the old roof!

please take my advice and go with a professional licensed contractor
I am in the process of filing complaints with the state contractors licensing board and getting reimbursed for the new roof I have to place since he lied about pulling permits.
I have been trying to resolve this with Gustavo who at first was willing to fix the leak but (surprise) did not want to pull permits because he did a poor job piling layers on top of an old roof. He is no longer responding to calls, texts, or emails.
In a month Gustavo if he is licensed may lose it, don’t go for nice. I am regretting it.

My aunt was told she needs a new roof, for home insurance purposes. She doesn’t speak the best English, AND doesn’t have a computer, so I told her I’d look on Unilocal and make some calls for her, to try to get an estimate.
I called 15 places, over the weekend, and Gustavo was the ONLY person I actually got on the phone, live (there was one other company that had an answering service). Not that I blame other business owners for not answering the phone on their days off, but I have to say I admired the fact that Gustavo obviously goes above and beyond in this regard.
I told him about the situation and mentioned that my aunt may need a new roof just to get homeowner’s insurance. I told him I thought it was silly because the roof doesn’t seem to have any damage, and it doesn’t leak WHATSOEVER.
He told me had a call just like this about a week ago and he said sometimes you can just write a roofing inspection report and show it to the insurance company, and you don’t have to do a whole new roof after all. Well hot, diggity damn!
I love it when I see honest business owners tell the truth in order to try to save people money. This guy easily could have been the first contractor out to see us (since he was the first person who I was able to get ahold of). Instead of trying to make a quick buck off my aunt, he offered a solution that could potentially save her over $ 10,000!
Thanks so much Gustavo. I can see very clearly why you have 5 stars (average) for your reviews! I don’t know if my aunt will need a new roof or not, but whatever the case, if I hear of someone who truly DOES need a new roof, I will be sure to recommend you!

I hired Gustavo to work on some odds and ends at my house He installed my built in microwave and I also had him do some remodeling on my home. I was please to have found somesone who has pride in his work. I will continue to work with Gustavo for both major and minor work needed.

I hired Gustavo for a work that needed to be done in my fireplace. I was impressed with his ability to fix the problem quickly while striving to keep the place clean. Additionally, he charged three times less than a quote I had from a different company.
After this positive experience, I hired him for different projects such as;
* Renovation of the Patio Deck
* Replacement of two Patio doors; A French door and a sliding door window
* Crawling space insulate upgrade
* House roofing routine maintenance
In all of these jobs Gustavo exceeded my expectation providing out of the box thinking and useful suggestions. I exchanged with him few emails detailing a negotiated price. He made a major effort to stick to the budget.
Gustavo has proved to be reliable and dependable. He does follow up with emails and phone calls to make sure the job is completed to full satisfaction. I will hire him again for other projects I have on the plan.
