Specialties

C is for Craft, LLC is a craft studio with a focus on the preschool community – teaching and interacting with preschoolers and their caregivers. The concept is to have a place where parents and caregivers can go with their preschool-​aged children – 20 months to 8 years old – and participate in creating old-​fashioned, handcrafted projects. Our Craft Studio sessions are available for a modest hourly fee.

History

Established in 2013.

The owner is a parent of a preschool aged child and while researching craft opportunities for that child, she noticed that there was not much available for preschoolers. As a Palo Alto resident, the owner feels that the best place to open this shop was in her own town.

Palo Alto is a wonderful community with a strong focus on children and creativity. We love being here.

Rita is the Owner Manager and a Renaissance mom with a background in sales and high-​tech administration. Nia Taylor is the Education Director and has art related degrees from the University of Massachusetts and New York University. Their dedication to public service and working with children to inspire creative minds led them to open C is for Craft, LLC as a resource for the community.

Fabulous place for a young child’s birthday party! Our little girl loved the Frozen craft party that Nia and Kathy put on for her and friends. It was quite a way to keep them entertained and also learning at the same time. The space is quite flexible and easily decorated with our balloons and plenty of space for the snack table. Nia and Kathy did a great job at «controlling» the room and keeping them engaged. I’d highly recommend to any budding artists.

I had taken by daughter to this place when it had just opened and it was so good then. This time, my experience was pretty terrible. I took my 5 year old and toddler to this place and my older one got a few plain sheets of paper and brushes and paint for the entire half an hour she was there. When I tried to offer her a few pasta pieces (kept on a table in the corner), the owner said «Don’t go about grabbing things around here, I have them organized a particular way» If all I wanted to do was for my older one to paint (with 2 colors!), I could easily do this at home (and we have a ton of materials at home!) My toddler just ran about and was not engaged in this place. When we left, the owner placed plain sheets of paper on the wet painted sheets and put them in a bag (because they didn’t have cardboard boxes). At home, they stuck together and tore apart when we tried to separate them :(
I would recommend Play at Los Altos downtown instead: the art section actually has a bunch of materials which they allow us to use and my toddler had a blast there (structures to climb, more space, more materials to play with) unlike here. I would not go here again.

Absolutely wonderful! The studio is beautifully designed to make art accessible, exciting, and inspiring for young children. Our «teacher» Nia, was adept at guiding me and my daughter, (2.5 years), through four different creative projects that my daughter was confident she could do «by self.» I also watched Nia adapt each project to the age and ability of children in the room. We can’t wait to go back. (Note — we stayed for an hour and a half when I had to drag my daughter out for lunch.) The «drop in» availability is perfect for us right now — and the price is absolutely right on (and in fact cheaper if you look at other monthly art classes.)

In his exploration of the world at nearly 36 months young, my son Cadence takes in most of the information by looking, listening, touching, manipulating, sniffing and tasting the things he encounters. As much as possible the materials at C Is For Craft in Palo Alto are made to encourage multi-​sensorial exploration to support developmental goals specific to his age and the instructors Nia and Kathy are second to none. Such exploration builds in him a strong sense for order, concentration, coordination and independence. Collectively, C Is For Craft leads to the self image of capability and competence which my son will carry through life-​giving him the confidence to take on new challenges whenever needed.

I can’t believe there are not more reviews of this totally original and wonderful children’s art center in Palo Alto. It can be very challenging to find fun and unique activities for young children. C is for Craft has tons of art supplies to wow kids from toddlers through grade school. I have two children, ages 2 and 5, and it has worked really well for us because there were activities for both. They have tons of ideas and wonderful hosts to help guide you and your children through different types of art projects. Best of all, they clean up for you. Your children can paint with wild abandon and you can enjoy it with them instead of worrying about your house and who is going to clean up. At the end they give you a lovely bag to carry all your child’s art home. We found them to be very reasonably priced too.
They also offer other activities including magnet walls, Legos and a dress up area. They are located in downtown Palo Alto near lots of restaurants giving you great lunch options within walking distance. There is street parking which we’ve never had a problem with.
We have really enjoyed coming here for drop in play during the week and I believe they are open on weekends too.

We had a wonderful time at C is for Craft for our daughter’s 6th Birthday party. Nia was wonderfully helpful in planning the event, coming up with ideas for craft projects for our Fairies and Pirates theme, and really engaged the kids in their projects. The space was great for general party running around and snack table. They were very flexible and easy going with our ideas and suggestions on the party as well. Quite reasonable too for the great location and afternoon of fun. I wholeheartedly recommend and will return. Thanks Nia.

Hosted a birthday party here and while the idea of having a party here was creative, I would not recommend it to my friends. When we arrived there on the day fo the party, the studio was a mess. We had a few minutes for set up in the limited space. The art projects we had agreed to for the event were ready to go for the kids but there were only a few kids who sat down and worked on them… most of them were just happy to run around, stick magnets on the wall and play with legos. There was no effort on the part of the staff to get them excited to sit down and work on the projects. Not sure that this is ideal for little ones. At the end we were slapped on unexpected extra charges for «clean up». Considering that this place was such a mess when we arrived, we were of course surprised. This was in addition to paying for an extra hour of renting the studio. If you have agreed to a price and have signed the contract, don’t be surprised if you leave paying significantly more. Satisfaction not guarenteed is what I say!
