Description

Specialties

Dr. Andrew Gottlieb is a psychologist who specializes in using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to treat anxiety disorders such as panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), worry and insomnia. He also treats depression and relationship problems. Dr. Gottlieb treats adults, couples, and children ages 12 and up.

With more than twenty years of experience, Dr. Gottlieb uses CBT tools to help clients make rapid changes. Unlike traditional psychodynamic or psychoanalytic therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy typically is relatively brief therapy, with many clients seeing benefits in 10 sessions or less. Longer term CBT can help clients make very significant behavioral and emotional changes.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a modern approach to therapy that focuses on helping clients change their thoughts and interpretations of situations which produce negative emotions. Clients learn skills for identifying their distorted patterns of thinking, and then changing them so that they feel better. They also learn how to recognize and change dysfunctional behavior patterns. Therapy is focused and problem solving, and is present oriented rather than focused on the past.
