History

Established in 2014.

Trevor has quickly become one of Palm Springs’ most sought-​after architectural tour guides — having earned rave Yelp reviews with Robert Imber’s Palm Springs Modern Tours. Last year Trevor established his own company and is now offering small personally guided tours of great mid-​century modern architecture in Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley.

Palm Springs is famous throughout the world for its extraordinary concentration of modernist homes and buildings. PS Architecture Tours was created to make this incredible collection of architectural treasures more accessible to individual visitors and groups of all sizes.

Trevor O.

Business Owner

Trevor O’Donnell is a lifelong architecture buff, preservation advocate and cultural tourism professional who has quickly become on of Palm Springs’ most sought-​after architectural tour service providers. In 2011, Trevor restored a classic 1958 post & beam in the Deepwell neighborhood (2011 PS ModCom Fall Home Tour) and is currently working on a 1952 house that was home to Architect Richard Harrison, one of Palm Springs most celebrated modernists. Today Trevor shares his passion for architecture and deep knowledge of Palm Springs history and design with visiting architects, design professionals, modernism enthusiasts and curious visitors from all over the world.

This was an excellent tour. Who knew there was so much to learn about mid-​century modern homes?!
My husband and I are huge fans of these homes, as they are very sleek and simple. Very clean lines. The tour is exactly 3 hours, and there is plenty to see in those 3 hours. Our tour started in the store ‘Just Modern’, as we sat and learned the history of mid-​century modern architecture. Then we were off to see the architecture in person. We stayed in the comfortable van for the entire tour, but you can always return on your own to a favorite location after the tour.
There were 5 of us on the tour, and it was quite comfortable as we were driven from northern Palm Springs down to the south. Trevor is a wealth of knowledge, and had the answer to any and all questions asked of him. There was so much to learn that I even took notes! I wanted to be able to do more research on these wonderful architects in my spare time.
It was wonderful to see the pride these home owners have with their homes. They are quite stunning. We learned so much on our tour, and are so pleased to have been a part of it. If you love architecture, or just want to learn more about the beautiful mid-​century modern homes in Palm Springs, then this is a definite must for you.

This was by far the most informative, fun and relaxing tour I have ever been on. Trevor is incredible. We were in town during the off season (September) and as a lover of MCM I knew we had to do an architecture tour. We met Trevor at an awesome furniture store in PS, sat down for about 15 minutes and chatted about where we were from (metro Detroit) and the history of the area. Then we got in Trevors van and took off.
Since it was the off season it was just my boyfriend and I with Trevor, which was great because it allowed for more conversation and Trevor could gear his commentary towards our knowledge level and background.
He showed me everything I wanted to see and so much I didn’t know about. It was about three hours. He gave us water and his van was very clean.
I can’t say enough about Trevor as a person though. He was so warm and inviting and had a real way of explaining things that he knows like the back of his hand in an easy to understand way.
We’re still in PS on our trip and it’s been 4 days since our tour. We have talked about Trevor every day since! He really made an impact on us and our visit to the city.
Also, my boyfriend is not really a MCM fan but he enjoyed this tour SO much. It’s been his favorite thing we’ve done here, and that includes Joshua Tree.

Trevor is an exceptionally informed person about Palm Springs architecture and is able to casually impart a vast amount of information in a 3 hour tour. I understand that his private tours are the thing to do. Maybe next time!

Extremely cool tour. As someone who doesn’t know Palm Springs aside from the casino and whatever hotel pool or golf course I’m at, this opened my eyes and offered a great educational experience to both the history of Palm Springs and modernist architecture. Trevor is incredibly knowledgable and articulate. Comfortable ride too. Definitely worth it!

Take. This. Tour. Now. Better yet, pay the extra money and get the private tour. Trevor really knows his stuff and is so passionate about Palm Springs’ unique architectural heritage. It became a little ridiculous when someone would point out interesting buildings that were not on the tour. And Trevor would know the most incredible details about the place! Seriously, there was not one question that we asked that he couldn’t answer. There was not one building that we pointed out that Trevor didn’t know when it was built and who was the architect (and sometimes which celebrity lived there and either renovated it to its former glory (DiCaprio) or ruined it (yeah, I’m talking to you Liberace). Trevor’s tour was really one of the highlights of our visit to PS.

This tour is a must for visitors of Palm Springs. We learned about the historical significance of the architecture around town, and then toured the city. For this being our first time visiting Palm Springs, it helped us get a better understanding of the layout of the city, and provided several places we went back to visit on our own after the tour. Trevor was fantastic, knowledgeable and friendly. I can’t say enough good things!

TAKE THIS TOUR! Trevor is terrific! He’s obviously passionate about architecture as well as Palm Springs history. We took the tour and didn’t know what to expect. Not only is his knowledge of architecture incredible, he imparts it with «good story telling technique»! Trevor delivers all the info in the comfort of a small mini-​van so you’re never competing for his attention. I suspect he tailors each tour to the knowledge of the group. No matter what you might know (or not know), you will surely feel satisfied! The tour is a few hours long, but it flies by!!!

He was not only encyclopedic in his knowledge of modern architecture he was also able to contextualize the articulation of the movement in Palm Springs within both the national architectural and social contexts. As an added bonus, Trevor is uniquely kind, warm, welcoming, and fun. I highly recommend this tour during your visit to Palm Springs. You will leave town with deep insight into just how this modern mecca came to be. It is worth every penny. Sit back, enjoy the chilled water and comfortable vehicle, and transport back in time through Trevor’s informed narrative. It is a must-​do.
