Small sushi bar, great atmosphere and awesome sushi! Kimy’s Sushi is a sushi bar list keeper!

Only came here for sushi because my first choice, Happy Sushi, was too crowded and we were starving and in a hurry! It’s very dark on the inside and only 2 tables, we sat at the sushi bar. There was only 1 sushi chef working and it took a long time to get our orders. The sushi is OK, they use(In my opinion) way too much rice. In addition, I ordered salmon nigiri and when i order salmon, i only want salmon and rice with wasabi! But they put a lemony albacore sauce all over the fish, not what I wanted. Not impressed.

The fish was frozen, there was plastic in the food, but at least for one really bad dish they took the item off the bill. This place is dirty and sticky. The second I saw the place I didn’t want to eat here but my friend wanted to stay. I regret going along with her decision.

I would give a zero rating if possible. Stopped by to sit on the patio for street fair for a sushi dinner. We ordered water, ice tea, and had yet to place the food order. I asked to use the restroom(which you must walk to the back of the restaurant and walk outside to use.) The bathroom was covered in human feces, absolutely filthy, the entire toilet, floor and walls surrounding were covered in liquified fecal matter. A very disgusting off putting sight to say the least. When I re entered the restaurant I spoke with the hostess and explained the bathroom was not exactly up to par, which is an understatement obviously. She said I could use the restroom in the kitchen which was also quite unsanitary with no hand soap or paper towels, an old dingy toothbrush on the sink. The toilet and sink were very dirty as well, with urine stains visible on the toilet and floor area. After this I alerted my guests that we needed to leave immediately. Absolutely AWFUL. I cannot believe the kitchen staff is using such an awful bathroom with no hand soap or paper towels with dirty toilets. No excuse for this gross violation agains sanitation.

As another Unilocaler said, don’t judge Kimy’s(formerly Joe’s) for the past owners attempt at sushi. Kimy’s is amazing & the chefs, Mimo & Jessie are the best! Danny’s Roll, as my b/f put it, is the most amazing thing to ever happen to his mouth & I concur. We won’t go there without getting all-you-can-eat and it has become our Cheers. «Nooooooorm!»

No longer Joe’s Sushi! Remember this name… Kimy’s Sushi… new owners! The best sushi you’ll ever taste with a Cabo flair… awesome! Be sure to try the Kitty Special and the Che Che roll. Both are delicious. Since discovering Kimy’s Sushi my husband and I dine there twice a week! It’s just a little«hole in the wall» kind of place but the sushi is fabulous.

This restaurant has new name — Kimy’s Sushi. While Kimy’s is a small, strip-mall like setting, don’t let that stop you from trying it out. The food is amazing — by far, the best sushi in the desert area. Some of the earlier reviews of this restaurant may have been done under the previous owner and name of Joe’s Sushi. Give the new owners a chance or another chance and you will be pleased with your decision.

Very friendly and they remembered my birthday. They have a seaweed salad that’s big and very good, and I love their stuffed tempura pepper dishes. Try the crunchy crab meat in a yellow pepper Che Che! An interesting Cabo touch to Japanese food. You’ll meet cool people there sometimes.

This place was called Kimy Sushi when I ate here on a HOT Palms Spring afternoon. I thought, I can go to any resturant in this strip and buy a 12 dollar salad or eat some fresh sushi. The waitress was latino which was ok with me as she recommended a very cold beer and clamato juice drink. REFRESHING. Cold tuna rolls, also REFRESHING. I enjoyed the outdoor high table seating option. The strangest thing was the 1 person restroom located way behind the restaurant, in the residence, but hey no lines: D

After a long day of traveling across the country, I stumbled on this quaint little place. In terms of the bricks and mortar, it’s a basic place; compact and unpretentious. Though it may not look like much, the sushi is FABULOUS!!! The prices are very reasonable, and the staff are very personable if not a bit quirky. Where else was I going to find great sushi, reggae music, and exciting twists like Cabo San Lucas inspired flashes of culinary brilliance. I ate in this place every day during a four-day business trip. Try the Cabo Cabo roll, Maki Maki, or Richard’s Special. All are wonderful.

(All You Can Eat) Sushi in the Desert? After reading some of the other Unilocalers’ comments, I had lowered expectations because the place looked sketchy on the inside. However, I was not in a hurry and the air conditioning was a welcome relief to the desert climate. I pushed through the glass door, headed down a long row of sushi bar seats(maybe 13 – 14, I think), and sat at the bar furthest inside to escape the glare and heat from the late afternoon sun. There was only one other patron seated at the middle of the sushi bar, watching the small flat screen tv behind the chefs. In the back of the restaurant were two tables pushed against the walls, where a couple and a family of five were enjoying their AYCE. Hmm… I should have asked, but I didn’t see any hot pots or heating elements for Shabu Shabu, so I assumed that all the cooked food was prepared solely by the chefs. Not a big deal, because I was in the mood for sushi a la carte. The waitress brought over menus, asked if I wanted something to drink, and promptly returned with my large Asahi and frosty mug. I took the opportunity to engage in the typical banter with sushi chef, Jesse, for his recommendations: A dragon roll, a spicy hand roll, and a Cathedral City special. The dragon was ok and tasted good as my starter dish. The hand roll actually exceeded my expectations. It looked awesome, like a mini sushi bouquet, with a generous marriage of spicy tuna, krab and avocado bursting from the nori cone. The Cat City special was good too: Shrimp, krab, and avocado, wrapped by tuna, topped by a thinly sliced Serrano chile, and served over ponzu. It wasn’t spectacular, but a nice transition from the previous rolls. As I made my exit, the waitress and chefs pleasantly thanked me for coming in. The dinner experience was positive, despite my reservations, and I’m glad that I took the time to enjoy it.

More like 1 ½ stars… let’s start there… I’m being nice… If I rated it a 1* they might lose their 2 ½ star rating… lol Ok, so $ 24 for dinner for AYCE sushi seems like a deal… That said, Joe’s was just okay. The place is a bit of a hole-in-the-wall, which is totally okay and adds to the charm, but the menus reminded me of a takeout teriyaki bowl joint. The menu was very limited. Standard nigiri items and a few rolls — nothing very creative. After seeing the size of the«a la carte» dinners, it seemed that AYCE was a bit on the small side, which was actually good because there are«rules» one must follow… extra pieces on a place — $ 1/each. Rice on the plate — no more food! The AYCE came with a choice of soup, salad, gyoza OR stuffed shrimp. not all. I always like a miso soup and salad with my sushi. The drinks were good and decently priced($ 7 large hot sake; $ 5.50 large Japanese beer). Now the real kicker? For some reason, I seriously could not eat more than 2 orders of nigiri and 2 rolls… Yes, that might sound like a lot to some, but there are times when I am raging hungry(today was one of those day after being in the PS sun all day), and I physically could not eat anymore. ODD!?! Extra starch on rice? Or maybe it was the 46 ounce glass of water they serve, which is just ridiculous. Fish on nigiri was blah and tasted old… Saw Okura down the road had AYCE for $ 26 or «deluxe version» for $ 30, which includes apps. might try that next time for just a few bucks more… OR simply drive to Palm Desert and check out No Da Te… YUMMY and same price as Joe’s. Much better service, nicer atmosphere and real Japanese chefs… Won’t be back… Almost wish I could have converted my AYCE to a la carte as it would have probably been less expensive…

How does this place have three stars? Have you people never eaten sushi before? I see now that Palm Springs is not a sushi-friendly town. This place was pure disappointment for us. We ate this past December(I’m running a little behind on my Unilocaling…) and everything about this place was lame. Not to sound like an ass, but I guess that’s what you get when a Mexican guy is the sushi chef. The selection was poor, the rolls were uncreative and sloppily made, the fish didn’t taste fresh, and the all-you-can-eat ordering system was as convoluted and unfriendly as trying to buy two loaves of bread in soviet Russia. Do I want to watch a stupid Nicholas Cage movie about fast cars and shooting stuff – with the fucking sound ON – while I eat? No! How about watching it twice? Double NO! The all-you-can-eat menu wasn’t the regular menu; it was stripped down version with all the good stuff taken off. And the server(who may have been on drugs. Or border-line retarded…) kept taking the menu away and demanding that we order all our all-you-can-eat sushi in one go. But you can’t NOT eat any of it. Or there’s some sort of monetary penalty on your bill for wasting food. WTF? Maybe I’m spoiled or living in San Francisco and Vancouver, but this place was a first-class fail!

We stopped in after arriving too late in Palm Springs to make it to our first choice. Portions were very big and everything was served at the same time. Prices were definitely reasonable. Unfortunately, a lot of the fish wasn’t very fresh. It was edible and didn’t make us sick or anything, but it didn’t taste very good. I would recommend asking what’s fresh, and ordering one dish at a time.

My wife and I ate lunch here yesterday after reading the other two reviews. The staff was attentive and polite, but the sushi just wasn’t that good. The tuna in the spicy tuna roll seemed like it was thawing and had that sort of mushy texture that made me think it wasn’t that fresh. The maguru was a color I’d never seen before — bright pink /almost fuschia –and it didn’t taste fresh either. Plus, they had a tv on and the volume turned up which I thought was distracting.

Love at first bite when Sushi meets Cabo! I know… You are probably thinking, a sushi place named Joe’s? Is it Joe Nakamura’s? No. Actually, Joe is the owner of 3 similar restaurants in the dessert area. This branch in Palm Springs has only been open for 8 months. However, despite the economy, all 3 of Joe’s locations are doing well… not because they are packed and you have to wait for ever… because they are GREAT, UNIQUE, and get repeat business. Plus, they combine their cabo San Lucas influences into some fabulously unique dishes. They serve beer and wine, and have an all you can eat traditional sushi menu that I chose my first time here. I absolutely loved every sashimi and sushi roll I tried. They had spicy rolls then dipped in tempura batter and fried for a flash. There were sweet crab and eel items(and green tea ice cream– didn’t have room to try this, though), and savory items to tempt your tummy. I will definitely be back, and I recommend them for anyone in town!
