Caliente Tropics Resort

Staying here was not the best experience. The check in person was nice enough but was smoking a vaporizer at check in. It took away from a hotel or resort atmosphere and we realized quickly that it wasn’t what we thought it would be. The photos online make this place seem way nicer than it is so we planned on spending as much time away as possible. The rooms smelled of smoke even though they were non-​smoking. The rooms and grounds were dated even for a motel and everything seemed pretty dingy and dirty. The clientele the weekend we were there was a little rough and spent a lot of time in the motel parking lot drinking and yelling at each other. We fortunately were only there one night and do not plan to return.

VERY STRESSFUL & NOT RELAXING. Only book as a last resort! Please take my advise and understand this is not a hotel you want to stay at. Roaches everywhere! Stains in carpet! I travel often and have stayed in many hotels but this was by far the worst! I didn’t even want to sleep in the bed or walk around the room with out shoes. Pictures online look nice but the place is completely garbage! ZERO STARS.

My girlfriend surprised me with a little weekend get away when I drove up from Los Angeles on Feb 9^th. I had no idea what to expect. Caliente Tropics was beautiful. A hidden little gem in Palm Springs. The room was awesome I loved the décor and it was clean, and very roomy. Had a fridge, coffee pot and a nice size flat screen television. A microwave would be been a plus but not a deal breaker. We arrived early and we were placed on an early Check In list which was awesome. The young woman at the front desk was very friendly and accomodating. We received a downstairs room across from the pool, it was perfect. The décor surrounding the pool was great, nice Polynesian theme, tiki torches lit up the area wonderfully at night and they even had a ping pong table set up in what appeared to be the patio area of the on-​site restaurant for us to enjoy. Sadly the restaurant was closed for remodel but I look forward to trying it out when it opens. There are 3 restaurants close by though, one Italian, then another directly next doors although it was a bit pricey and Edgars Café (i think that’s the name) within walking distance and Koffi a little coffee house a block away so the location was convenient and if you wanted to you could walk to the Botanical Gardens a block away or venture into the main strip for a lot of restaurants and shops to explore which is within a quarter mile. My girlfriend and I loved the pool at the hotel, it was huge and actually heated felt wonderful. Spent the evening in the hot tub till 12am when it closed for the night. Also offered private cabanas in the grass courtyard for those who want to Sun or have a little privacy. The staff is all around awesome, we had trouble getting the jets to fire up in the Jacuzzi and they came right out to fix it for us. They gave recommendations in the area if we wanted to sight see or grab a drink and told us about upcoming events. They do require $ 100 deposit on the room when you check in but it’s refundable when you leave just don’t trash the rooms, simple as that… very reasonable. Oh and they are pet friendly… big plus as well. Thank you everyone at Caliente Tropics my girlfriend and I had a great time we will be back soon.

I had a great stay here last May… clean room, fresh smelling not covered up odors from past guests, updated and modern. Comfy bed. Only had a shower, no tub… unique in and of itself… classy. Had every amenity I could have needed. Super friendly desk help.

Good place to stay. Quiet, clean and spacious rooms, and there is a nice pool. Very welcoming. Only drawback is that it is a bit far from the town center (this is not a problem if you have a car – parking is easy and free in Palm Springs).

I needed a quick stop and found a great deal, for this motel, on Priceline. Beatrice, at the front desk was super nice. I asked for a main level room. no problem. I told her I just needed one key, but she started making two. I asked for a pool towel and she asked if I wanted two. Funny… I think she expected me to make a fast friend during my one night here.
The room had two queen beds. Wifi is included with room price. Nice big room with a fridge and tiny coffee pot. There’s a good-​sized flat-​screen TV hanging on the wall. There’s a nice two-​drawer chest and a desk in the room. Plenty of room to hang clothes and plenty of hangars. Oh… there’s also an iron and ironing board in room. The bathroom vanity was nice and large and the separate toilet and shower room was also nice and large. The shower has been re-​done with nice granite slab. Nice linens on the bed. The heated pool and hot tub are available until Midnight… the round are nice and dark at night with the glow of the gas Tiki torches… nice touch. I will absolutely stay here again.

Pros: Location, if you want quiet. It’s further down and off the strip, so it’s quiet. Great neighborhoods nearby for walking/​jogging or bike riding. Walking distance to Elmer’s for breakfast. Huge pool area with jacuzzi and bar. Cons: Even though the rooms are non smoking, our room wreaked of cigarette smoke. They tried to mask it with air freshener, but it was pretty bad. I opened the bathroom window, and ashes literally blew in where someone was obviously trying to smoke out the window like a teenager. Peeling wallpaper and beds that you could feel and hear every spring in the mattress.
The price was reasonable (booked on Priceline), and because we were out and about all day, we didn’t spend much time there. I would hesitate to return because of the cigarette smell. The front desk staff was good about it, and was apologetic, but still. .yuck.

If I could give no stars I would, this is not a resort, its a MOTEL !!
The website shows a very hip remodeled scene, but it lacks all of that. It is very out dated, the wallpaper was pealing from the walls, the ac blew stagnant gross air, there was a sketchy window in the restroom facing the shower, the room smelled incredibly stale, the walls are very thin and our door jammed every time we tried to get in.
The only reason this «resort» was chosen was because of a perk from a credit card of mine. The beds were decent at best, the cable had very few variety and the room was very very very small.
We thought that maybe the jacuzzi could make this place a bit better, no we were very wrong. Although it did get up to a very relaxing heat, it was only 5 minutes in that we had realized how DIRTY it was, there was some substance that either looked like a bunch of spit, or something worse. We only stayed two nights and were on high alert for bugs, we didn’t see any until after we did our last check before check out, when we found a cockroach in the shower.
This place was not worth the stay and I’d advise everyone to do their research BEFORE they stay!

This hotel will be my favorite after they open the bar/​restaurant. The manager told us they are very close.
The tiki themed pool area is wonderful. The hot tub is nice, but one of the motors is malfunctioning and it makes a loud noise.
They have Unilocal!check-​in deals (upgrades when available).
The rooms are plain, but nice and spacious. You must remember, this is the cheapest place to stay in in the area besides The Knight’s Inn. (It is much better than the Knight’s Inn).
I was not a fan of the stone wall cleaners who made a huge racket in the morning.

This is by far the worse motel I’ve stayed in. The hotel website and even AMEX stated that the facilities were remodeled, with modern amenities. Well if you consider a flatscreen TV and wifi modern, then this is the place for you. Severely lacking in consistency, decorum and finish. It was obvious all monies were spent on the lobby and bar, which don’t even tie into the look and feel of the retro mod/​60s theme we were looking forward to. Very disappointing. BTW, our room was the only one with tile floors, single pane windows, and shower head that spray more water to the ceiling than on the bather.
On the plus side, the bed was large and quite comfortable as were the pillows.

BED BUGS!!! Don’t stay here unless you want to be eaten alive! Woke up with over 50 bites!

Quick Notes: At check-​in, the room was upgraded for free with a coupon from Unilocal.Room 116 has a moldy funky type of smell, the beds were comfortable, the furnishings were outdated, the throw pillows on the sofa, bedding and carpet had stains. The room had two large flat screens, foxnews was blocked but, the room had great air-​conditioning.

Stayed here labor day weekend, originally booked with Caliente because I intended to take my dog but that didn’t pan out. Loved the Tiki aesthetic, lobby and pool area was nice. The cabanas were very cute too however I didn’t see anyone lounging in them but they’re sort of separate from the pool. Rooms were nice for the price, liked the shower. However the carpet was absolutely disgusting. My one other complaint aside from that was the DJ they had for the labor day pool party. Every now and then he’d play one good song but his music choices were really bad hip hop, Pitbull, Lil Jon, not even really current popular hits and just not suited for the majority of families and older individuals who were there but that’s not really the hotels fault.
Oh, also our phone wasn’t connected in our room. Not really a huge deal because we have cell phones but I just wanted to ask the front desk a question, so I just had to walk up there. Thought that was strange only because if there was some sort of emergency and someone needed to call 911 and didn’t have a cell phone convenient they’d be sol. There was also only one working Ice machine on the other side of the hotel.

Pros: staff are kind, friendly, cheery atmosphere, nice pool, suite upgrade is amazing — it’s a huge (but dingy) queen suite.
Cons: bathroom located outside the pool area, so you know everyone is peeing in there. The suite at one point was flooded, there’s major water & mold damage. Room is so dirty, I feel awful not leaving a housekeeping tip, but how can I? (See the images I upload).

Loved the resort. It was nice going with my dog coco puffs. Prices right now are low. i will post pictures.

Hot hot hot!
Simple place to cool off by the pool, have your beer (cans only) and bring your BBQ stuff as well!
This place is chill and comfortable, pool for you to swim and cool off, even though when we were there the pool was super warm.
About 4 BBQ grills in the grass area behind the pool, bring your charcoal, meats and grilling utensils.
Everything seems to be there so you really don’t have to leave, swim, BBQ, drink, eat and of course lay out and tan.
Rooms are simple, our room was clean and everything was working fine, no problems.

I made our reservation through
about 6 weeks in advance. I didn’t have any issues when we arrived, the man at the check-​in desk was quick with the process, gave me our keys, and showed me where to find our room.
We had made our reservation for a King room and upon arrival were told that we received a free upgrade to the Queen Suite to «balance things out a bit» due to the next night being completely sold out. We immediately phoned some friends and turned our romantic weekend away into a romantic night so we could drink poolside with our buddies the next day/​night.
Rooms:
The hotel isn’t very big and they have named different sections of the hotel which helps find your room a bit easier. Our room was already nice & cool, very clean. The only thing I’d note about the condition of the room was that the carpet was very obviously stained in multiple places. Big black stains, at that. Probably wine or coffee. The phone in our room didn’t work. I couldn’t dial out or dial to the front desk. The shower didn’t drain well. I shaved my legs and a few hours later noticed that there was a residue ring around the tub from it.
The custodial staff knocked on our door at 8am to see if we needed service. Check-​out isn’t until 11am. CHILL OUT. I’m a light sleeper so once I woke up from that, I didn’t go back to sleep. That happened both mornings.
I wouldn’t consider this a resort. They don’t have a restaurant or a bar on the premises and all of the vending machines were broken. Apparently their renovations will be complete in October, but advertising the restaurant in advance is misleading. One of the two ice machines was also out of service. When I went to the lobby on Saturday to inform them of the broken ice machine on our side of the property, the girl told me where to get ice instead (across the hotel, complete opposite side.)
Pool:
You can BYOB to the pool, as long as it isn’t glass, or bring the glass anyway like we did and keep it out of sight because we only saw one staff member enter the pool area the entire weekend and he was only using it as a short cut to get to the other side of the hotel. It made it seem like we were hanging out in our friends pool just drinking beer and hanging out. The biggest issue we had is that they allowed smoking IN and AROUND the pool. There were people chain smoking the entire time we were there. Despite how disrespectful that is to the people around you, get a grip. It’s 110 degrees outside. I know how uncomfortable it is to smoke when it’s that hot, you’re not fooling anybody.
Make sure you ask for pool towels while you’re checking in. The towels are checked out and checked back in when you’re done. I guess they’ll charge you if you don’t return them directly.
Parking was easy.
Check-​out was the worst part of the whole stay, because it was the most we had to interact with any of the staff. We checked out around 10am yesterday and there were two ladies sitting at the front desk. The one on the right was a bit older, typing and clicking away on her computer, and couldn’t be bothered to greet us. The younger girl on the left was incredibly rude. I am very accepting of people’s attitudes but hers made me livid. She was very short with us, didn’t bother to ask how our stay was, didn’t thank us, didn’t say anything other than «what room? are you returning those towels?» and then demanded that I put the towels down on the counter, not asked me to set them down, not told me where I could put them.
Part of me wants to give them another shot when they have remodeled, but we expect that we won’t be able to BYOB to the pool once they add a bar/​restaurant.

It’s was ok until I saw that not only were the blinds on my room warped by the sun, but I was charged an extra $ 150+ and have been waiting over 8 days now for something that was suppose to be refunded to me within 3 – 5 business days
On top of all that, I call last night and Joey (very nice) asks for proof. I took a snapshot of what was given to me on behalf of their management before I checked out, and then as I call in today I got hung up by a male employee (named Jeff? He said his name in inaudibly before he hung up on me.) then I call back in, and am placed on hold for 10 minutes plus. Not a good experience to say the least
