Do your due diligence a few other places and then go see Jim LAST.
His overhead is low and his experience is high, decades operating from this location and another in Palatine near the train station.
Jim can fix any band or orchestra instrument or tell you who can.
He will also provide you with a free estimate. I received two instruments back faster than I expected, and two loaners, and Jim had not made me any promises over the busy holidayze.
You will probably also get a loaner if available.

I got this great deal on a trumpet for my son on Craigslist. So great, there were things that needed to be repaired. Who knew there were parts that slid on a trumpet besides the valves! I thought that was just trombones! So I looked around to find someone to fix it. First, of all the companies I left messages, Jim was the only one to call me back. Second, he quoted me the cheapest price of all the places I called or saw online for a cleaning. Third, he has been fixing brass instruments since 1976. I felt so confident in his ability, I drove 40 minutes away even though there were repair shops a lot closer. I took it in to his little shop, and he was really nice and knowledgeable. He even game my son a loaner trumpet until he finishes fixing it. Now the loaner is not a looker, but it works better then the one I brought in.
