Holiday Inn Express Chicago-Palatine/N Arlngtn Hts

My family stayed here on two occasions while we were having floors installed in our home. I’m not normally an IHG hotel person and typically stay at Hilton properties, but there aren’t any nearby. This HIE is located in a bit of a run down stretch of Dundee right off the highway, but the facility itself looked nice online so we gave it a go. I’d probably stay again if I needed to, but not after checking around for availability at other options (e.g., the Courtyard across the street).
At check-​in on both stays, we were given wrong type of room. We had booked a King suite, and were assigned to a 2-​double or 2-​queen room. Luckily, they were able to find a suite for us, but this was booked intentionally to allow us more space with our children so it was frustrating to be downgraded without notice. Frankly, we may have walked had they not been able to accommodate us in the type of room booked.
That frustration aside, it was a relatively good stay. The hotel is clearly older (low ceilings, etc) but has had modern cosmetic updates. Our rooms were clean and well laid out. The King suite features a living room including a small kitchen area with sink, small fridge and microwave separated by a door from a bedroom. The living room has a fairly comfy pullout couch which you do have to make up yourself from linens in the closet. The King bed was comfortable but firm, and they offer two types of pillows, neither of which was great but I’m picky about pillows. Our second room (Rm 229) had an issue with the door into the bedroom, making it impossible to close. We had to prop it with a washcloth so we could put our kids to sleep without the light from the bedroom flooding in. We of course didn’t notice this until bedtime so it was too late to ask to move. The shower in our first room was a little rickety feeling — like the tub wasn’t well installed, and the faucet in the second was kind of wonky. But overall it was well appointed. Final note about the room — if you do get room 229 — see if you can get another room. This suite had an adjoining door to the next room in the bedroom, and it made it easier than usual to hear the guests next door, which kept me up as they were noisy.
Breakfast was actually very good for this level of hotel — better than some others at hotel chains I prefer — with a wide variety of hot (eggs, pancakes) and cold (yogurt, muffins, cereal) breakfast options and decent coffee. Our kids loved it!

We used HIE as accommodations for our daughters wedding. Clean comfortable and quiet rooms. Great breakfast. Convenient location literally next to expressway.
They were very cool letting us use a common area for a wedding after party.

Very unprofessional environment for a hotel with this name. What my wife and I experienced is more often found in very small towns with little to no travelers.
There are other hotels in the immediate area so check into the others. We’re experienced travelers and just found ourselves surprised at our experience for such a well — known established franchise.

After a recent disaster, at another hotel, this hotel made my weekend perfect! The location is perfect right next to the highway and is very close to many different places! The businesses around the hotel were very nice to have with many great places to relax or get something to eat. Along with this hotel comes a full world gym! This gym has a huge pool that also has a hot tub and saunas! The staff was beyond helpful and anything we needed was brought right up to the room! I can’t wait to stay here again!!!

Stayed her for 10 years for business. Have hundreds of nights stayed. Quality rooms. Breakfast is one of the best I have eaten at. High marks for the social hour every Tuesday/​Wednesday. Staff always makes me feel at home.

I stayed here on a business trip. room was clean and nice, but it didn’t come with a fridge/​microwave. I had to request one for my time there and it cost me an extra $ 10. Not a big up charge, but I did want to let you know.
The staff was really friendly and helpful. They were able to provide directions to local restaurants as I wasn’t from the area. It’s not the greatest hotel, but it’s decent.

Clean room, friendly staff, decent breakfast. the hotel pool is part of world’s gym so it’s not really meant for little kids (4ft lap pool) also while it has a steam room (smelled bad and wasn’t hot) and sauna they aren’t coed so not cool for same sex couples. The room also didnt have a mini fridge which was inconvenient. I paid $ 75/​night after fees so I can’t complain too much considering we got free breakfast for 5. That would easily coat $ 25 had we gone out

Great hotel, clean, excellent service. Our radio was messed up (am/​fm switch was broke & vol stuck on high). Replaced in ~10 min. Would stay here again.

I like the IHG hotel group. I try to stay at one of their locations whenever I travel for business or pleasure. This Holiday Inn Express in Palatine was a real delight to stay at! From check in to check out the staff were all very nice and treated me very well! We had a warm welcome upon our very late arrival and the next day when I went down to breakfast and asked for a tray to bring some items back to my room no trays were available but Hilda was happy to offer to carry some items back up for me.
It was a very clean room and everything functioned correctly and was very comfortable. I wouldn’t hesitate returning here the next time I travel to the Chicago area! Palatine is nice since it is just outside of Chicago and is quieter and at a more relaxed pace.

$ 87. Pretty good hotel. Clean. What we needed for a one night stay before six flags. Only complaint is yes, another respondent said this, those doors do slam something fierce in the am when ppl are leaving. Do yourself a favor and turn on the bathroom can before you go to sleep, so that you are not awoken by it.

I was not happy with my experience at this particular Holiday Inn Express. First, the hotel shares facilities with the gym next door. This would be great if you want tons of exercise equipment options, but if you want to take your kids swimming it stinks. The members of the gym monopolized the pool, and my kids and I ended up having to stand in the corner while they swam laps. Not to mention the pool was freezing cold and nearly impossible to find.
Along with that, the staff at the hotel ate from the breakfast buffet, leaving my family with whatever they left. It was incredibly tacky that I had to wait in line behind the staff from the hotel to get breakfast.
Along with this, there were a number of extremely annoying quirks, for example: the hot and cold water were backwards in our shower, which took a while to figure out. The hotel was decently clean, and it is in safe and convenient location, but considering how many other much nicer and less obnoxious hotels there are in the Chicagoland Area for basically the same price, I recommend staying somewhere else.

Clean, affordable, responsive (broken light switch repaired in 5 minutes from call to fixed!). Friendly staff, decent free breakfast, free wifi in the lobby. The fitness center and pool is at the World Gym next door, connected to the hotel by a second floor indoor walkway. Kids swam in the heated pool, and the gym facilities are awesome (if you exercise, but I don’t, well, as much as I should…). There’s an automatic pancake maker in the breakfast room operated by a button that rolls the pancakes out like an old fashioned steam press — kids were mesmerized! Also sausage, biscuits and gravy on our stay. Only suggestion is to put some ding dang tables and chairs in the pool area for the parents to sit and rest their beers on!
