Dazoo

We had the ulu luau, taro chip with coconut breadfruit dip, kalua pork mochi and beef bibimbap. Very solid food overall, and it hit the spot after a day in Hana.
The mochi was very sticky, but tasty. Similarly the beef had great flavor although it was just a tad overcooked.
Too expensive to be a five, but still recommended.

Dazoo has the absolute BEST chocolate macadamia pie, not too sweet! Worth the drive to Paia for that divine pie, which is the favorite of many of the servers working there! Woo hoo!

We had the lentil soup (amazing), breadfruit appetizer (awesome), bibimbap bowls (just wow). We needed a wheelbarrow ride back to our vehicle. :)

I seriously LOVE this place every time great service and the drinks are on point a little pricey but WELL worth it! People craving the Korean food this is not a Korean restaurant … just fyi and its in Paia its more a Korean fusion. The curry soup thing at night is delish and the eggs benedict during the breakfast is bomb! Everything is fresh … not sure Ive never seen a bug in there once but it is Paia I grew up there and saw pretty much every bug imaginable but the place is super clean each and every time Ive been there. Went on a date, went for drinks, then went with the girls so yes its good!

Food is fusion style. We didn’t have any of the baked goods. I ordered the ssam with Kalua pork. My wife had the stone bowl bibimbap.
I left with a two star food experience, but I think I was hoping for more Korean flavors. Maybe it’s more like three or four stars if you are more open minded to a Korean-​inspired meal.
Reason I had to rate it 1 was due to the roach on the wall where my ssam lettuce touched. We noticed it after paying. Hopefully the restaurant isn’t as dirty as I imagine. We had never been here before so it could be a new occurrence or rare thing, but when I see roaches I tend to believe there is a roach problem. We took a photo, but I don’t want to post it. Unfortunate.
Ps. Was contacted by management that they are vigilant about pest control since they open up to the air during warmer times. Good to know they care about food and experience.

Went here looking for some Korean food on Maui. The place suffers from an Asian fried food identity.
The Kalbi was unauthentic, cut thick and served rare. When we asked for medium and to grill it some more they punished us by jerkifying the strips to half their size. The fried potatoes were abusively salty and tasted of burnt oil… and salt.
The only reprieve was our super nice and accommodating server.

This review reflects the service and menu samplings on the evening of 2÷27÷15.
In the boho town of Paia, Dazoo makes it mark as the more upscale counterpart to its fish and chip, burrito, and coffee shop contestants. They nearly make it, and with a few adjustments in management and food thought, they surely will. As it is, it was pretty slow for a Friday night in Paia.
Their excellence resides behind the bar with the dynamic Jimmy, whose concoctions are simply delightful. I would recommend Dazoo based on his performance alone. In our party of six, I was able to sample the full assortment, with the Bri Whiskey Sour, Carlos Danger, and Phở-​Bang standing out exceptionally for my personal tastes.
These drinks are the driving force, and I would prefer a menu that paired better with them, or perhaps a more vigorous service that would be excited to explain how their west meshes with a predominately Korean-​fusion menu. As it is, the service and food are a some what lack luster.
The food is fine. Everything was fresh and prepared well, but it was sort of ho-​hum next to those drinks. My favorite dish of the evening was the Miso-​glazed eggplant, and my Seared Duck Breast main was cooked well, but the red quinoa and julienned beets and carrots were so dull and boring, like something I might make myself for a simple dinner at home after a long day of work. How about cooking the grain in a broth, adding nuts, fruits, herbs, cheeses or fungus? Take a look at that bar menu for inspiration, I say.
The over — hyped bibimbap is, to me, a novelty thing with very little substance… Having lava hot food served in an earthen ware dish with out any explanation of it’s origin, or how to consume it is just unimpressive, to me. The two people at my table who ordered it were somewhat disappointed that they didn’t realize that the rice is supposed to become ‘crunchy.‘
Paia is the wrong town to embrace pretense. Floor manager and staff seem uninspired. Not sure what is going on there.
With that said, the evening was lovely, mostly due to my company, the lighting, and (for the last time) the drinks! I will be happy to return, and am eager to try their brunch menu.

I went to this restaurant several times before their name change, menu change and renovation and always had a wonderful experience. Great food, good service, nice ambiance. A little before their renovation my mother and I had lunch and then split the check, asking the server to divide it between our two credit cards. When my mother received her statement she noticed that she had been charged the full amount. When I went to look at my statements I saw that I had too. I called the restaurant and they asked me to bring in copies of our statements which I did. I then heard nothing. I called many times, spoke to a very nice young man several times, and stopped by the restaurant as well. By then they were undergoing the renovation and had misplaced the copies of our statements. The manager said their records did not show an overcharge. I decided to let it go.
A few months ago I went to lunch there with my daughter. The owner stopped by our table to see how we were enjoying ourselves and after chatting a bit I decided to mention the overcharge. She seems concerned and said she would check into it. I’ve heard nothing.
I no longer frequent the establishment. Neither does my mother, my daughter, and a few other people I’ve told. It’s not about the money. It’s about their lack of caring.

Really wonderful. The baked goods are so fresh, the staff is fantastic, the food was perfectly prepared. I stopped in after 11am wanting a simple breakfast. I ordered the breakfast sandwich– two eggs, bacon, cheese, and lettuce on a fresh, toasted croissant. It was perfect! Fresh, hot, and delicious. And the home fries were also perfect– fresh, hot, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. Also had a perfect cappuccino. Everything was prepared exactly how I would do it, myself. And the server was great, too. If they can do this with a simple breakfast sandwich, I’ll bet EVERYTHING on the menu comes out great. Thanks to all at dazoo!

I’ve eaten many meals here now, several dinners and brunch once, and have always loved the food! The service has always been attentive and helpful as well.
The bibimbap is delicious! We’ve tried end enjoyed it with the fresh catch, pork and tofu, and loved them all. I also like ordering a couple of the appetizers as small plates to share for a meal. The mushrooms in butter are delicious, as is the eggplant with miso sauce.
The menu changes seasonally, but we’ve enjoyed everything we’ve tried — always fresh ingredients well prepared.

I can’t say enough good things about this place! Best passionfruit Bellinis!

I had high hopes for this place after going through all the good reviews!
The appetizers are ok… waited an hour for it. They delivered our first appetizer to us and didn’t give us small plates. I had to ask 4 different people just to get plates to our table.
Sercice is very poor. I’m sitting here waiting for my entrée and it’s been an hour and twenty five minutes since we’ve place our order! At this point no food will be appetizing. It’s quite obvious that they are very unorganized. Employees are delegating tasks to each other and they all look confused. No Bueno!
I’m generally easy to please but this is just horrible.

I suspect this place will be out of business when we come back next year. The service was absolutely horrendous. Not typical Hawaii slow, we come to Hawaii every year and are quite used to the pace, we actually kind of embrace it.
I ordered a drink, and then reminded when all other drinks were served and again when the food started coming out. There was no apology and frankly I would have thought that since I didn’t receive my drink until food was served that maybe they would comp it? No, they actually added extra drinks to the tab that needed to be removed once the bill came. Also the kids food came out last. And by that I mean the grill cheese and pasta came out 5 minutes after all the other entrees were served which means 20 minutes after the starters came out. We requested that it come out with the starters.
As for the food, which is the reason it didn’t get 1 star.
Meatballs & Mochi– fantastic
Eggplant, noodle bowl– good
Gnochi (just balls of dough), rice dish– not great
Wouldn’t go back but suspect it will be out of business so don’t think that will be an issue.

Dazoo is a restaurant not to miss in Paia! The food and atmosphere were wonderful! I had the bibimbap with beef. The food was outstanding– it far surpassed my expectations. They had a delicious cocktail menu, I wish I would have tried one of their house specialities.

I test every new bar I encounter by attempting to order a sazerac. If the response is a baffled look then you know right away to order a straight pour of something else, skip the cocktails. After being disappointed with all the bars we’ve hit counter clockwise from Napili Bay we randomly happened upon this spot in Paia toward the end of our trip and was very delighted. The sazeracs were solid. The bar was knowledgeable and if you ask would craft whatever you like that’s not on the menu. The selection of bottles are limited, the lack of mezcal was a bummer, but we were told they’re working on it.

This was an amazing surprise.

I’ve seen mixed reviews for Dazoo, but my visit was excellent. Service was quick, but then again it was not busy — unfortunate because it is a great place to eat in Paia. I went for sunday brunch so breakfast food was a must. The prices seemed low to me when the plates came out — they were very generous portions. Sweet bread French toast with mac nut topping was great, the kicker being the REAL maple syrup and coconut syrups. Kalua pig benedict was good as well. The surprise was the dolsot bibimbap (bibimbap in a stone pot) with bulgogi. Very large portion — best bibimbap on maui (ya ok that’s not a high hurdle). Overall very satisfied — looking forward to trying their dinner service and cocktails.

ATMOSPHERE:
Cute little café that is reminiscent of a typical San Francisco eatery. Good size bar, high tops and tables but no booth seating. Big windows let in lots of natural light.
FOOD:
Bibimbap — Got it with bulgogi steak. It’s chock full of veggies — carrots, cucumbers, bean sprouts, mild spiced kim chee, and topped with a sunny side up egg. The rice at the bottom wasn’t «seared» at all by the clay pot, which is normally what happens. I added about ¼ of the hot sauce to mix in but the dish still lacked flavor. Unfortunately I had to add in soy sauce. Not the best bulgogi I’ve had.
Ramyeon — My friend’s ramen dish. She got it with kim chee and kalua pork. I just tasted the broth which was very light in flavor. She too had to add in soy sauce to get any sort of taste bud excitement.
SERVICE:
Everyone was friendly and attentive. It was pretty quiet at brunch time, so reservations aren’t recommended.
OVERALL:
Nice menu selections, a bit pricey for the type of food you get, and unfortunately bland flavor.
