Specialties

The Hedonisia Hawaii Sustainable Community is based on the model of social enterprise which is defined as a business that also serves social and environmental goals.

On the environmental front Hedonisia has been an experiment in affordable community based ‘eco-tourism’ in Hawai’i wherebybackpackers and travelers can enjoy a sustainable vacation lodgings rather than the typical ‘concrete tourism’ of overdeveloped resort areas such as Waikiki.

At our eco-tourist community we offer:

a) Affordable eco-friendly lodgings made from recycled and locally sourced materials.

b) A Fair-Trade Volunteer Program that allows volunteers the ability to work and live in Hawaii at a much reduced cost!

c) The Sustainable Community Management Internship which allows visitors to enjoy a longer stay in Hawaii while learning how to manage an intentional ecotourist community in Paradise!

All of our volunteer, intern and lodging options are very affordable whether for a short or long term stay.

Aloha!

History

Established in 2004.

The property where Hedonisia is located was once a vehicle junkyard. With sweat and hard work we slowly removed 18 scrapped vehicles and cleaned up truckloads of trash to become the first ecohostel in East Hawaii.

Now we have further evolved into a social enterprise sustainable community for eco-tourists and idealistic travelers!

Our Community Management Internship and Fair-Trade Volunteer Program have become quite popular for longer staying visitors from around the world.

We invite you to visit our website to view the environmental, feminist and socially progressive web projects we are working on.

Even if you come only for a few nights as a guest we hope that you will learn and enjoy the beautiful place that Hedonisia has become!

Mojo M.

Business Owner

I have long been a fan of the concept of social enterprise. This is defined as a business that addresses social and environmental issues as well as trying to make a profit.

I created Hedonisia with this philosophy in mind. With our eco-practices we continually try to show both to visitors and the Hawaii government, that it is possible to enjoy low impact and affordable eco-tourism as an alternative to the concrete, highly polluting ‘hotel tourism’ of places like Waikiki and Kona.

Based on the feedback we have received from visitors from all around the world, this is proving to be a very popular concept! More and more visitors are rejecting concrete tourism to be more close to nature. We are proud to be part of this green travel wave!
