History

Established in 2013.

Award winning BBQ master, Danny Coogle, opened a BBQ stand in Kalapana, Hawaii in 2013. In response to the popularity of his food, this year he has expanded his business to a restaurant open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, premiering his BBQ menu. He also offers delicious breakfast specialties, fresh homemade burgers, fresh catch of the day brought in daily by local fishermen, and his own take on local favorites.

Try the fresh catch of the day special fish lunch plate. It’ the best that I’ve ever tasted. Great BBQ Ribs and Pulled Pork Sandwich as well. The chef was also very nice.

If you know BBQ — this place isn’t it. We tried BBQ Ribs, chicken and Pulled Pork. IMHO, None of them got anywhere close to smoker. Chatted with him and smoker wasn’t even hot. Tasted like Blue hair ribs. No smoke taste in food at all. We got plain white rice (after having read up their yummy dirty rice), and tired old beans. The thing that was decent was the coleslaw. I have no idea about the rest of the menu.
Rib plate had 2 small ribs, rice, beans and coleslaw for $ 12. Wasnt worth it to us.
Person working seemed not so friendly and pretty lackluster as if we were bothering him and it was only 4:30p on a Saturday afternoon. Definitely would not go back for the BBQ. I wish we had tried some of the fish items and not gotten BBQ. (we go to Pahoa Fresh Fish all the time so thought we would try something different.)

We were staying close by and found this great little place while checking out the Wed night farmer’s market. Food is great and the owner, Danny made us feel right at home. Will definitely be back next visit and recommend for anyone looking for a relaxed great meal and friendly service

So good. We are staying right down the street and decided to head down right before they closed at 7pm. We had the Loco Moco and Ono plate. It was awesome. Danny is so nice. He greeted us and gave us great recommendations. Everything is home made every day. We lucked out on a Friday night to catch some amazing local music. I noticed they stayed open late. It was chill and we were stoked to see other kiddos out too. Highly recommend. The breakfast menu looks delicious, as well.

We loved this place! The food is excellent and the value exceptional. I tried the catch of the day lunch burrito, which was Ono. So delicious! My husband had the Loco Moco… Also so good! The homemade gravy and hot sauce added a special touch. We even got to try some dirty rice on the house while he was cooking. Definitely highly recommend eating at this BBQ joint. Yummmmm!!!
