Initially started in 2004 as sole proprietorship called ‘NativeScape’, At that time ‘NativeScape’ was providing landscape consulting, design, and limited installation serviecs.

Recently in 2008, ‘NativeScape’ was incorporated as NativeScape Development Inc. to provide and expanded array of products and services to not only residential clients but also to commercial, industrial and municipal clients. Expanded services include erosion control, irrigation, hardscape, outdoor lighting, decorative water features, and landscape maintenance. We have the needed elements of listening, creativity, knowledge and experience to communicate and create your «Sustainable Outdoor Living Spaces».

Business Owner

Steve Hernandez is President of NativeScape Development Inc., the only landscape firm educating and serving homeowners, business owners, and local governmental agencies on how to effectively achieve authentic, ecologically sustainable landscapes through results oriented design, construction and maintenance in Southern California.

Steve is co-​founder and instructor of Urban/​Suburban Ecoliteracy, the nation’s first series of place based workshops that teach global citizens the value of ecological responsibility via systems thinking. Steve co-​developed an eco-​curriculum that emphasizes interactive problem solving, resource relationships in daily living, real world case studies, community building and slow food.

As creator of not only sustainable landscapes but also workshops for ecologically responsible global citizens, Urban/​Suburban Ecoliteracy, Hernandez is one of the nation’s leading experts on the topics of not only sustainable landscaping but also ecological pattern literacy.
