Stephen Johnson is a fine art photographer. His studio, located in Pacifica, California is a gallery and educational center as well, where he offers workshops and training. He founded the Digital Studio Workshop program in 1992 in response to the growing need for education with photography’s transition from silver to digital. Having lectured on the subject for years, and taught photography for decades, it seemed a natural service to provide for which he believed he had a strong set of skills and strengths as an educator. History

Established in 1979.

Steve is widely known for his communication skills and passion as a photographic educator. Having taught at various colleges since 1979, he founded his own workshop program that same year, leading trips all over the western United States. With the Community College Foundation in 2003 he helped create the Magical Digital Bus, a fully equipped Macintosh digital photo lab on a 40 foot bus, designed as a portable classroom for remote teaching. In 2006 he constructed a very high-​end teaching facility in his own studio. His international teaching has led him to England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, Sweden, Mexico, Iceland, Ecuador, the Galapagos, and on three voyages to Antarctica.

Business Owner

Stephen Johnson is a landscape photographer, designer and teacher. He has been photographing since 1973. His work has been featured in Communication Arts, Life Magazine, American Photo, Outdoor Photographer, and ABC Discovery News, among many others. In 1994 he embarked on With A New Eye, the ground breaking all digital photographic look at American national parks, to be published in due course. In 2003 he was inducted into the Photoshop Hall of Fame. Canon named him to their Explores of Light program in 2006 and X-​Rite as a founding member of their exclusive Coloratti color experts group in 2007. The digital age has considerably enhanced our ability to teach, and we believe your ability to capture what you see. We offer both field and studio workshops, including a hands-​on fine art digital printing workshop. His photography studios, galleries and education center are located in Pacifica, California.
