Soap Making Classes & More (previously Blue Dot Organics in San Francisco) offers DIY classes in Pacifica, CA: beginner’s cold process & hot process soap making, liquid soap making, beeswax candle making, lotion making, and lip balm making classes. Each class is 100% hands-​on, educational & customizable; I supply the recipe & you choose which ingredients work best for you. Everything is provided in the class with no extra materials fee. Along with your products, take home a thorough, detailed instructional handout with recipes, ingredients, materials list & suppliers. Private classes are offered, as well as set-​time classes, which can be viewed on the online calendar. All classes are for up to 4 people per class. I look forward to meeting you!

Hi, my name is Lindsay. I am the former owner of Blue Dot Organics based out of San Francisco. I taught a variety of large-​group classes in the making of soap, candles, lotion, lip balm and various other body and household natural products. I closed this business in October 2014 and went to Spain with my husband. Now I am back in California and want to teach again, but on a smaller scale. I now offer private classes, as well as set-​time classes, for up to 4 people and they are taught in Pacifica, right on the ocean. You can enjoy an informative, fun class tailored to you in a relaxed atmosphere.

I have been making & learning about natural, body-​care products since 2012, when I took my first soap-​making class with my sister-​in-​law in Quincy, Massachusetts. It was so fun that I immediately moved on to lotion, candles, bath bombs & more! I had been a teacher long before learning how to make natural products though, so when I moved to San Francisco in 2013, I decided to mesh my 2 specialty areas and open Blue Dot Organics. I have taught in various capacities ever since I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Education in 2006, but I prefer the small-​group setting for a more personal experience and so you can get the most out of the class. So now I offer private, as well as set-​time, classes for up to 4 people per class.

My brother and I really enjoyed Lindsay’s beeswax candle-​making class. The class had one other student, so it was an intimate and comfortable learning environment. Lindsay is very knowledgeable about candle-​making (along with many other crafts) and we appreciated the tips and tricks she shared during our hands-​on experience. We were very happy with our candles and also appreciated the packet she provided that outlined the steps we did during the class as well as suppliers and other useful information. I highly recommend taking a class from Lindsay!

Words cannot describe how thankful I am to have found Lindsay! She is absolutely remarkable and very informative! She made the class feel so simple and rewarding. Chemistry isn’t my cup of tea, however Lindsay’s teaching style encouraged me to not be hesitant toward the subject. She lives an organic, chemical free lifestyle, which is wonderful as I, too believe in a chemical free atmosphere. I highly recommend Lindsay!

Duuuuude. Lindsay is THE BEST. I’ll admit I was pretty nervous heading in there but she is so welcoming, sweet, and was super knowledge, broke down all the basics before we got started (in a very interesting and non-​highschool-​chemistry type of way) and was super patient and kind when answering all my jumbled and probably dumb and weird questions.
As for the actually soap making, WOW! I didn’t realize it could be so easy once you got the hang of it! There’s many types of ways to make soap but if you want to learn from scratch, Lindsay is the best place to go. She’s so welcoming (and provided delicious snacks and treats!) and just generally made you feel at home and not like you’re a dumbass novice with little zero knowledge on the subject.
The class itself was relatively quick (because Lindsay is there guiding you), and it’s must less stress-​inducing than one might imagine (and trust me, I’m a very anxious person. She makes you feel at home.
I loved that she had print outs of the ENTIRE soap making process including different types of ingredients and some history on how soap was first made and used way back when! Super cool. Not only that but she printed out several of her own tried and trued recipes and referenced many soap/​lye/​fragrance suppliers that she uses heres in the printouts! She also emailed me these in case I wanted an online copy.
I’ve played around with making homemade body wash with Dr. Bronners soap base, glycerin, and essential oils and she gave me some great advice for those too! Really, she knows her stuff!
Our soaps are still setting but they already smell UHHH-​mazinggg! I would recommend Lindsay to anyone looking to get into soap making, a fun activity to do with friends/​family, really. anything. She’s super sweet, makes you feel at home, has a GREAT sense of humor and is basically an encyclopedia of knowledge. BOOK AN APPOINTMENT NOW!

If you have soapmaking start here. You’ll get over the whole fear of lie and dive into the experiments of soapmaking. Clean, fun, organized and informative. Great atmosphere. And my fav was it was customized to my tastes and likes. Love Lindsays attitude and willingness to answer all questions.

My niece and I recently attended Lindsay’s candle making class. It was a pleasure learning this craft from such a fun, patient, and knowledgeable instructor. Since my niece lives out of town, Lindsay generously offered to limit the class size to two, enabling us to spend quality time together. It was a blast picking out the colors, creating the designs, and selecting the candle holders. Now we understand why beeswax is the preferable medium, how to stay away from toxic products in the stores, and in general, the art of creating the perfect candle. My niece told me that she is now proudly displaying her candles all over the house! The course is geared towards all ages and I plan to be back to take some of her other interesting classes.

I took the Hot Process Soap making as well as the Liquid Soap making class with Lindsay. I had the best time learning the whole process. Because this was my first time soap making, I really appreciate the insight on the history and chemistry of soap making as well as the handouts Lindsay provided. Lindsay is very through in explaining the soap making process and the soap making calculator. She also provides safety gears and opens the windows and patio door for ventilation when working with lye. After discussing the type of soap I would like to make, we picked out a recipe to work with and worked on making the soaps I wanted. The whole process was very easy and not as hard as I thought it was going to be. Lindsay is a great teacher as well as a wonderful hostess. I learned a lot in the short time we had. I look forward in taking more of her classes!

I loved the experience. Lindsay was an incredible teacher. She was very engaging, friendly and her passion was contagious. It definitely went beyond expectations. The location alone was so breathtaking. Overall the experience was more than amazing.
I loved understanding the science and process behind soap making. And learning about the different ingredients and their benefits. It’s very fascinating.
Can’t think of anything negative about the class. I would love to go to a whole day candle, soap, lotion, lip balm, etc making thing though if there ever is one! That would be fun!
Everything was new and informative. I was happy to learn from Lindsay. She’s a great teacher.

I went to the lotion making class and added on the lip balm class. I loved it! Lindsay is a natural teacher and I had a really great time. She’s fun and easy to talk to and she made her home a comfortable place to attend her classes.
I am in LOVE with the products we made, especially the lip balm. She provides really detailed instructions so I would be able to make these again on my own. She was very organized and knowledgable on making natural products.

Lindsay is an awesome teacher! Making soap is fun, every time I use homemade soap — it’s special.
The class exceeded my expectations, actually. She was completely prepared with gear, materials and a teaching plan. Lindsay took the time to make sure I was comfortable with the material before we moved on to a different topic about soap making. She was extremely knowledgeable about her subject matter and a «natural» at teaching.
I personally liked the that we took time to understand all the science, tools and precautionary steps and what to do if an accident were to happen, this was reassuring.
