Joe, the owner and mechanic magnifique, was recommended to me by a seriously hard-core mountain-biker(Ken C., who mb’s single speed over crazy terrain) as one of the two best mechanics in the Monterey Bay area. I think my friend’s recommendation was dead-on. Joe did a superb job of putting together a Jones Plus that was boxed up and sent to me, and pointed out a design shortcoming(front dérailleur) that he could fix. He is extremely capable, and as nice as can be. I DO understand another reviewer’s complaint re payment, as Joe wants cash or a check. He charges 3% extra for a credit card. His shop is modest, to say the least. Yet I will definitely return, for any of our 11 bikes, when the need arises. He is a real cyclist who loves what he does, and brings a lot of intelligence and smarts to his craft.

I just moved to PG two years ago, finally got back to some serious riding this year. Joe was great to work with, did a super tune up and now my bike is shifting perfectly again. When I popped in for a bell so I could thread my way through the tourists on the rec trail without getting creamed by an unpredictable lurch to the left he found on back in the shop that would fit on my fancy fatter than normal handlebars. this is my local shop now, four blocks from home and great service!

This place really is as good as it gets. Joe is really friendly and a great bike tech. I was biking up 68 when I had a really bad derail that broke my chain. I was planning to bike down Highway 1 to meet some friends at Andrew Molera St. Park and figured I was going to end up hitching a ride in the dark. After pulling off to the side of the road I looked across the street where, like the room of requirement in Harry Potter, there stood Forest Hill Bike Shop. My chain was f-ed, but he didn’t immediately try to sell me a new one despite my dire situation. I eventually decided to get a new chain and Joe had it installed with my derailleurs aligned better than ever in about 15 minutes. I left his store with a bike that was performing better than it had in months for under $ 50. Small shop, no frills, just a good bike tech for a good price. Thanks again for saving my ride down the coast.

Joe is very knowledgeable and helpful, particularly with difficult and pesky road bike tuning problems. I have found him really on the spot.

This is a small shop with an owner that wasn’t very friendly. I went in to buy some rim tape, and although he takes credit cards, he wouldn’t accept it for this small purchase. I didn’t have the cash with me, so I had to leave and find another shop in the area. Personally, I would never turn away a customer. Went to Winning Wheels, and the experience was 100x better. Although Forest Hills is closer to my home, I will never go there again.
