At Traditional Karate America we’re in the business of changing lives. We take average people and transform them into Peak Performing Black Belt Champions!
I’m writing in support of TKA, and it’s program. Seven years ago, my son was a timid little three year old. I originally brought him to TKA to socialize with children within his own age and to bring him out of his shell. Today, my son is a confident and respectful young man. This is highly due to TKA Karate and it’s founder, Sensei Larrea. Sensei has played an instrumental role in my son’s life. Sensei states«Karate starts and end with respect.» These simple words my son lives by, this is his motto. My son strives to be his best no matter what task he is tacking. Early this week, he was elected class representative and is currently on the Principal’s List. As I reflect on these past seven years, I no longer see that shy little boy wearing a white belt while tightly grasping my hand. Instead, I see a confident black belt who proudly enters his karate school with grace and dignity. Thank you Sensei Larrea for creating TKA and allowing my son to grow up there. brought him to TKA to socialize with children within his own age and to bring him out of his shell. I came across this school through an Amazon deal(20 classes for $ 35) and it’s definitely worth the money. I will say that I own a ton of different workout videos ranging from yoga to TaeBo to P90X etc, etc. and I’ve taken various classes but GoForItKickboxing(Ozone Park) is by far my absolute favorite. I actually look forward to working out which is not usually the case! I’m excited to workout! Since taking the class, I have definitely feel my core getting stronger, and my cardio fitness improving. They really pay attention to you and your technique and are really invested in you having a great workout and achieving your goals. I would definitely recommend this class… I love it! Sidenote: They have classes everyday of the week!

I would like to take this time to go down memory lane with you, some you might know, some you never knew. Growing up my Dad wasn’t around; he made a choice to leave my life. I had always searched for a father, someone who would fill that role. I found that in coaches, teachers and in you. Unlike the others you took an interest in my goals, not just Karate goals, but life goals. You taught me to look within myself and find the strength to move forward. I remember the class I achieved a full front and middle split. I thought I couldn’t go any further, and then you told me I could, you slide my leg more and told me the pain wouldn’t last long and that I would feel the stretch to hold on and trust you. I did and from that point on I had the split. You were also there for me when I was looking into the idea of going to College. I hadn’t thought it was a good idea; I went to a trade school and was expected to go into my trade. Toward the middle of my senior year you asked me if I was applying to Colleges and I told you no. You asked me if I would like to go to College and I said yes, then you told me I should get a few applications out there, it didn’t hurt to try and see what happened. Well I go t accepted to Ohio State, Syracuse University and Queens College. The only three schools I applied for did accept me. You did something for me that no-one ever really did, and you let me know I was special. Years later, after a divorce, I had put on a lot of weight. I saw you again and you didn’t pass judgment on me, you asked me what happened, you sat with me when you had a lot going on and offered me your help. You had extended yourself to me and only asked for simple help at the end. Again you made me feel like I could do anything. I have always held you in high regard and your impact on my life was huge. All the tournaments, the wins and loses, the trophies and medals mean little to the belief in myself that you instilled in me. You taught me that getting knocked down is part of life; the key is pulling yourself back up. So today on your 50th Birthday, know that you have meant a great deal to me, you have put me on a good path and no matter how much I may fall I know that I can pull myself up, and if I need help getting up, well you will be there to give me that support. Happy Birthday Sensei, God bless. Osu!!! Mario Bruno

I am enrolled in TKA’s kick boxing classes. The classes are extremely effective. I have been going to gyms for years, and never got these type of results, not only have I lost weight, but I am stronger, and I am starting to see a healthier definition in my body. The instructor(sensei) is very attentive to all his students, and notices when we need help, as well as when we are improving. It is refreshing to have someone give me the push I need. You just will not find this individual attention in a gym. Absolutely love this place!

This is primarily a karate dojo, but they have a classes spanning a variety of disciplines, with a variety of members. I love seeing the kids with their parents, and their schoolwork proudly displayed on the bulletin board. Makes me wish I took martial arts when I was younger. I signed up for a year-long kickboxing class here last year with the goal of getting back into shape. Typical classes ran for 1-hour, and consist of warming up(calisthenics), punching bag time(Wavemaster XXLs), and cool down(stretches). Along the way, basic boxing and kickboxing techniques are taught. Classes(for kickboxing at least) can be cramped at times depending on how many people show, but it was never uncomfortable. As with these types of activities, you’re going to get as much as you give, but it certainly helps that instructors are both friendly and motivating. Sensei Larrea leads a good team and he has a deep well of knowledge. At the end of my subscription, I had lost 35 – 40 pounds, getting back to my high school weight of 155 pounds. If you’re looking for a fun place to get in shape or stay in shape, then this is the place!
