La Espiga and me could have had a special relationship. I’d visit multiple times during the week to eat and would need to explain to everyone my recent weight gain is due to the person(La Espiga) I’m seeing keeps feeding me burritos, tortas and pastries. Now, the cost for a torta is cheap, but you’re not getting much else with it. For under $ 4, you’re getting bread, lettuce, tomato, pickled jalapeño’s and a small amount of meat. For a dollar and some change more, I can get the same torta, but with avocado and meat stacked higher or piled on from Jungle Juice or La Palapa. I will mention the baked goods available all looked good and well maintained. I didn’t see any pests flying around behind the glass display counters like some other places.

You really can’t go wrong with a simple $ 3.89 ham torta. Super simple, really good! My go to spot when I’m short on cash. I love it here.

My favorite panaderia in ALL of Walnut Grove… Been coming here about 10 yrs now even though its clear across the other side of Gilligan’s Island. The bread is big, flavorful, moist, so tasty, hearty, pretty, aromatic. etc, etc… You walk in and its spacious, CLEAN&NOTCLUTTERED! Very important! Very well kept shop. No flies! NEVER have I bit into my pan & crunched on an eggshell piece like you would so commonly do at Panaderia Vanessa! Panaderia Vanessa is the devil! The girl that rings you up could use a class in social skills 101 but who cares as long as they keep doing what their doing with that pan dulce. As you can see from my pics, they sell prepared food. I reccomend the burrito de azada comes with beans, rice cilantro/onion & a mild/medium red salsa. VERY good because the meat is juicy, tender & flavorful. They use skirt steak, «Ranchera». I went today for that burrito but the only meat choice left was carnitas. Wah! This place is next to a really industrial area so all the surrounding workers go grab their lunch, they run out of the meat selection FAST! As I was walking out, mentally psyching myself out that carnitas was gonna be just as good-if not better!(it sucked) This man who was {{{covering mouth & whispering}}}-«Anglo» was telling the girl, «your out of chile rellenos again??? what am I suppossed to eat now??? awwwwwww man!»
