History

Established in 1994.

Our firm was founded by the husband-​and-​wife team of Mark and Michelle Hiepler in response to the tragedy that occurred when Mark Hiepler’s sister, Nelene Fox, was diagnosed with breast cancer and denied a potentially life-​saving bone marrow transplant by her HMO. Since then, we have continued to fight for clients whose voices may have otherwise gone unheeded. In addition to our work in the area of insurance claim denials, we also concentrate on personal injury claims, helping accident victims and their families recover fair compensation.

More recently, we have taken up the claims of more than a dozen clients who were injured or lost loved ones in the 2008 Chatsworth train collision, not only helping them pursue fair and appropriate money damages but also arranging for several of them to testify before Congress. We represent clients throughout California and beyond. Our lawyers regularly travel to meet with our clients at their homes, offices and hospital beds throughout their case.

Mark Hiepler was named one of the 100 Most Influential Lawyers in America by the National Law Journal and one of the 20 Most Influential Attorneys under age 40 in California by California Law Business. He has been selected annually as a Southern California Super Lawyer, as well as Lawdragon Leading Plaintiffs’ Lawyers in America. In addition to securing some of the nation’s largest and most publicized jury verdict awards in the health care area, Mr. Hiepler was voted one of the «Top Ten Trial Lawyers in the Nation» by Trial Lawyers for Public JusticeMr. Hiepler was recently inducted as a member of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He has been appointed by the California Legislature as a Member of the Governor’s Health Care Service Plans Task Force, and was invited to the White House where he discussed health care issues with President Clinton. He regularly serves as a key note speaker at physician, patient and insurance conventions throughout the United States and abroad.

I want to document the expertise with which Mr. Hiepler assisted me, as well as an act of kindness and good will. We live in a world where we often feel helpless and terrified when matters of our health and wellbeing come into play. Fear based decisions and lack of experience can leave us «losing» to big insurance companies.
I was in a car accident. If you get out of the car alive you should be grateful; I did and I was. I did not feign injury, but there was one. When my hand bruised a week later, I informed the insurance company I was going to the ER. Immediately, the agent offered to write a check for $ 400.00 to cover the visit and the «rest for my trouble.» She said, «What, an ER visit is no more than $ 150. Dollars, right?»
Thankfully, I knew enough to say no to the check. Then the fear kicked in. They are going to try to trick me.
I am going to lose.” Mr. Hiepler, known for his David vs. Goliath victories, was recommended by my hand specialist as «one of the best and most honest people» he knew. «Call him,» he told me. Mr. Hiepler advised it would be best for me to «settle informally.» Next, although it was not a grandiose case and not a matter of life and death (which makes it even more remarkable), Mr. Hiepler advised and guided me through my case. As if I were a million dollar client, no matter how busy he was, every step of the way he gave me the language and skillful advice to hold my own with the insurance company. With nothing to gain monetarily, he has been a kind and supportive human being. Always, I knew someone decent, honest and wildly smart was in my corner. I settled with far more than what they initially offered, but more than that, by the end, I felt empowered.
Mr. Hiepler taught me that we have a right to ask for what we deserve. Everyone in his office was kind and professional. As I stated, mine was a small case, but this is the man you want in your corner when you come up against the insurance companies. I would recommend this gentleman and his law office to handle anything.

Hiepler & Hiepler represented me in a case recently. Mark Hiepler is amazing! He is incredibly competent, knowledgeable, responsive, patient, and easy to work with. He really knows his stuff! And, importantly, knows how to work with others in his profession.
Before going with Hiepler & Hiepler, I interviewed a number of different law firms. Making the decision to go with Mark Hiepler was a no-​brainer. The other attorneys I interviewed either were not very knowledgeable, couldn’t be bothered to call me back or follow through on things, were not pleasant, or seemed «small time.» This was in sharp contrast to Mark Hiepler. It should be noted that Mark Hiepler was also named one of the 100 Most Influential Lawyers by the National Law Journal and is a Southern California Super Lawyer.
Furthermore, Mark assigned a wonderful attorney, Maria McCarthy, to my case.
She handled the day-​to-​day operations. Maria is responsive, thorough, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to work with. She is also tenacious and a fighter for her clients.
Everyone on Mark’s team that I worked with from paralegals to accounting, and office staff were incredibly conscientious, competent, detail-​oriented, and responsive. Note this is in stark contrast to other attorneys’ offices. –Apparently, in the lawyer job culture, it is common practice and acceptable NOT to call clients back or respond to emails. I mean, give me a break! — Even doctors call their patients back!
At any rate, if you want first-​rate representation, I can’t say enough about Mark Hiepler.
