The Golden Nugget

Just happened upon this place for a family meal after kids soccer game. Clean, super friendly staff, very good Greek food. Good portions. Nick the owner was making the food. We don’t live out this way but if we did this would be our regular spot.

Fantastic for breakfast, lunch or dinner! We’ve been coming to the Nugget for years and now it’s newly renovated. Beautiful, clean, open and airy. Giant menu with smart choices. The Mario burger is a favorite of my husband. Perfect portion sizes, nice children’s menu, WONDERFUL staff… Everything you want when going out for a nice family meal.
If you haven’t been to Mario’s since the new renovations, I’d highly recommend calling up your parents or grandparents and telling them to meet you there for a good olé’ family dinner. Mario the owner is always there and always has a smile one of the nicest people that we have met

I am always so impressed with the speedy, friendly service and delicious food at this restaurant! I have been eating here for the past 35 years and even though I moved to Georgia, I still visit every time I am home. We arrived on Sunday around 1pm with a large group of seven and we were seated right away. All of our orders came out fast and perfect — no errors! They are always consistent and I highly recommend this restaurant, especially for breakfast, any time of day!

Great service and excellent prices. If you like incredibly fast, mass-​produced diner food, you’ll like this place. I thought the food was awful. I got the waffle and my husband got an omelette. The blueberry topping for the waffle used frozen blueberries, and the omelette had canned mushrooms and frozen broccoli in it. The latter tasted watery. If they started using fresh ingredients I bet the food would be great.

Food is great. And the portions are generous. Must have either been the later time we went to eat or the waitress was just having a bad day. She was a little on the crabby side. No personality. Morning/​Day waitresses are excellent though. Always smiling. Pricing is fair. Location is easy to get to.

For breakfast… this is the place to go! Good service! Good breakfast and lunches. I would like to see more fresh items on the menu or for specials. I have tried battered cod at all the places in town and this is the one place I will return to. Servers on days have been there for many years and are all very helpful and friendly.

Love this place! I eat here regularly and have always been pleased with my experience. They have a good menu selection and great service! I was sold after my first visit. I would definitely recommend this diner to anyone in the Oxford area.

SPINACH PIE! I love the spinach pie here! I was in search of a new spinach pie after my terrible experience at the Leo’s on the corner of Atwater. and this is it! The service is always great and the food is excellent. Granted, I’ve only had the spinach pie, but companions have had other things and never any complaints from them. Give this diamond in the rough your business.

So how to best describe «The Nugget» (which is the correct pronunciation for locals). For me the nugget symbolizes Home, Comfort, Family, and the American way. Having been an Oxford Michigan institution for decades (I am old enough to remember the mini juke boxes on the table) and having had different ownership and management (and fires). The latest incarnation of the nugget is by far the best. My parents frequent the place 1 – 2 times a week and there is never a time that I don’t visit the area and not make a stop with them at their request. Yes if this establishment was Cheers my parents would be Norm. They go here so often that they have a regular waitress (Shelley) and their booth is set up with their drink order already on the table. I get it I am biased and I am sure that not all share my enthusiasm, but we all have our favorite diner in the world, and The Nugget is mine.

Very friendly service every time we have been there. Food is great and they have a wonderful selection. One of the best Greek salads in the area. Try it with gyro meat if u want something different. They have a great breakfast menu as well and offer breakfast all day. This is our go to spot!!!

This is our family go to place for breakfast. Nothing fancy here, just good food, decent prices, experienced and friendly wait staff.
My kids love the biscuits and gravy with a side of Texas toast. I generally get the corned beef hash and a side of bacon. My wife likes the healthy choice breakfast.

Friendly waitress but as we were eating our salads, she piled our entrees on the table. A good waitress will wait until you finish your «wilted lettuce» salad before bringing the main entrée. By the time we finished our salad, our entrée were only luke warm. I had the roast beef dinner and it was terrible. Large vessels in the meat. Friend says they are muscle but look to me like empty blood vessels. Canned corn and instant potatoes. Boxed it up for the dog! For desert I had chocolate ice cream since it was included in the meal. Found a piece of metal in the ice cream! Looked like a metal shaving. Waitress says it was probably part of a scrubie they use to clean with. Was offered a replacement but appetite was gone by then. No more dinners at the Golden Nugget!
I have eaten breakfast there and was very satisfied. I have learned my lessen going to a place like this for dinner.

Just like most of the diners in the area, I have only been to the Golden Nugget for breakfast. I have never had a bad meal. The eggs are always cooked correctly– I am not from Europe and I do not like runny eggs that so many places try to serve. The hash browns are crispy outside and yummy inside. The bacon is crisp. The kitchen is the fastest of any of the breakfast places around. The service is wonderful. I really like that they automatically bring water to you, you don’t have to ask. There is always someone refilling coffee. I don’t think my cup ever even gets half empty before someone comes by to refill it. The dinner specials look to be a good value, too. Always an enjoyable experience at the Nugget. We will keep it on our list of regular restaurants to visit.

Stopped for late breakfast on a Saturday morning. Great omelets, bottomless coffee, and quick & attentive service.

My family eats at the Nugget 2 to 3 times a week and we really enjoy the food. The service is outstanding. A special thanks to Shelly and Robyn for taking such great care of us. Our daughter (3 years old) calls the Nugget «Her resteraunt»!

I’m not quite sure why, but I LOVE the Golden Nugget. Maybe this will even take some of the credibility from my other reviews, but I don’t care, for what it is, it’s solid stuff! Honestly, I’d take the Golden Nugget over Leo’s or National or any other Coney Island chain any day.
Both the greek salad and lemon rice soup are as good as I’ve had in the D. The coney dog was just OK, but, then again, even a great coney dog is just OK. Here is what really shocked me… I ordered their «pan fried lake perch» special on a whim, and it was actually delicious! It was seasoned well, cooked well, and tasted fresh. I regretted my order as soon as it left my mouth, but I left the restaurant completely satisfied.
If you are looking for some good, cheap food… hit up the Nugget, I think you might be pleasently surprised!

THE NUGGET!!! Oxford’s pride and joy. Haha, all joking aside, this place has killer food. The service is fast and the food portions are huge. I don’t think they skimp on the quality, and there is always a seat available. Try the crispy chicken gyro thing with ranch dressing. It’s SO GOOD!
This is also one of the ONLY place sin Oxford that is open late. Perfect for the way home from the Bar ;-)
