Joongang Oriental Market

Joongang Oriental Market is a small-​ish East Asian market on Shawnee-​Mission Parkway, in the same little shopping center as the Sobahn Korean restaurant. They carry a nice selection of items, focused on Korean and Japanese items. Some items seem a bit pricey, but if you don’t want to drive all the way out to 888 International or the Oriental Market on Metcalf this is a good alternative closer to home. The store carries some items/​brands I haven’t seen elsewhere — I was happy to come home with a pack of Shimaya instant kombu dashi (vegetarian, no bonito) and agar-​agar powder for making desserts/​aspics/​etc. (In Japanese it’s called kanten.)
