Nice clean store. This may just be the cleanest, most organized Aldi that I have ever seen.

It took me almost 30 years to get to an Aldi. Maybe I’ll go back in 30 years. Maybe not. I just don’t get it. I know people sweat this place, but it’s a pit. The seemingly low-quality food is not laid out in any good manner whatsoever, so you pretty much have to go around the entire store(which at least isn’t very big) if you are looking for something specifically. And prices do seem low, but largely because the stuff just isn’t very good… so you do get what you pay for. The best looking stuff was the produce, which did look decent. However, there oddly wasn’t any scale for said produce(like there is in every other grocery store in the world), so I have no idea how much I need. I don’t need to return. But if I do, it’ll be around 2043.

Being a lover of good food(aren’t we all, though?), Aldi really is like Heaven on Earth. Don’t let its smaller size fool you, this chain is just as great as an leading large-scale grocery store. The items, though generic brand, taste the exact same as any high-end store bought brand(aside from the few, very rare exceptions). They have better produce than most grocery store for a fraction of the cost. They also offer significantly cheaper versions of commong chips, cereal, and snacks. PLUS, they have staples like milk, eggs, spices, ect. that are impossible to mess up for literally half the price of Hy Vee across the street. Let’s face it, we all need food. We may as well be looking for quality AND quanity without sacraficing either, and Aldi offers that hands down.

They are great for produce and everyday food items like dried beans, Milk, Bread, Cereal, Canned foods and Chips. They have a nice dried food and candies section as well. Bring your own bags otherwise you have to pay a dime a bag. If you are buying a lot get a cart outside for a deposit that you get back and take it in. They have a warehouse layout and it can be crowded at times. I have gone in during the morning, at lunch and after work and there is no really good time to go. They are always busy and never have enough cashiers working. They are nice an say they are sorry for the wait, but it would be nice to just hire another person to check people out. Cash or Debit

Great price on the staples we need like Milk and Bread. Just wish they had more checkout staff or a «self serve» line for items 5 or less.

I’d never heard of Aldi until I was in Berlin, visiting a great friend who was a chef, and announced one morning that I was heading downtown to load up on chocolate at one of the big department stores on Ku’damm. Appalled, he took me around the corner from his apartment in Steglitz to «Confiserie Aldi»(as he called it). It turned out to have a great selection of chocolate and candies at prices much cheaper than the downtown department stores. I was able to load up on stuff and only buy specialty or hard-to-find items downtown on Ku’damm. I’m thrilled that Aldi’s in the U.S. is living up to the tradition! They now carry several store brands of European-made chocolate that are every bit as good as Lindt or Tobler for a fraction of the price, including a wonderful dark chocolate bar with hazelnuts and high-cacao-content chocolates from designated growing regions! The only drawback is that they’re not always in stock, but keep checking back(and also look near the cash registers for their Moser-Roth brand) or try one of their other stores, as they have numerous outlets across the metro. They also carry Werther’s hard candies, to which my Dad is addicted! Otherwise, Aldi’s carries a lot of staples, usually in store brands or no-name brands that are excellent quality at a fraction of supermarket prices. Don’t expect a wide selection of brands. There will only be one of each, often made for Aldi’s by a better-known manufacturer. I live on my own, so I end up drinking a lot of instant coffee, for example, and Aldi’s Beaumont brand is great at a very good price. Ditto for their corned beef hash, which is a secret breakfast vice. My mom swears by their Bisquick-style baking mix, which she says is even better than the brand-name product. They have a limited selection of basic spices and baking goods, canned vegetables, spaghetti sauce, etc. In addition to the staples, they also have frequent imported specials(often from Germany) so it’s worth checking the refrigerated and frozen food sections to see what might be lurking there! Their frozen strudels are very good, for example. There are also seasonal specials, especially around Christmas, when they bring in more candies and German goodies. The produce is limited, but also good value. You do need to bring your own boxes or bags, and have a quarter with you to release a shopping cart(you get it back when you return the cart). I save supermarket plastic bags and box tops from Costco and keep them in the trunk of my car and just keep recycling them. Easy and handy. But you can buy reusable bags at Aldi. This particular location is right in front of Sam’s Club and across the street from Hy-Vee, so it’s very convenient to hit Aldi’s first for bargains, then head into Sam’s and Hy-Vee for what you couldn’t find at Aldi’s. You could hardly ask for easier shopping! But there are numerous stores around the area and they’re definitely worth checking out. I haven’t yet shopped at an Aldi’s Missouri store, so I don’t know if they carry beer and wine, but if they do I’m sure those are also good values. So give«Confiserie» Aldi’s a try! Once you do, you’ll probably be hooked, too! Aldi’s doesn’t accept credit cards, but does take debit cards. Update 2÷16÷2011: Stopped in to stock up on a few basics and rebuild my chocolate stash! «Confiserie Aldi» came through — they had a good selection, including numerous types of chocolate bars, including those with high cacao content and from specific countries of origin. They also had the great dark chocolate with hazelnuts — yum! Down the aisle I found those delicious European butter cookies with a dark chocolate top. And around the corner, with stuff on clearance, were some yummy chocolate truffles that are probably a seasonal item. Prices were extremely reasonable. Of course, all the staples were there, too. Aldi’s won’t necessarily have everything you’re looking for, but you can certainly save money on the things they do have! And the quality is very good.
