History

Established in 2012.

The Pottery Bug was born in 2012. It was kind of… dropped in our laps. But, it seemed like a FABULOUS business and so we jumped in with great excitement. Shortly before our one year anniversary, we decided to open a second studio in Sandpoint, Idaho (Owned by my sister, Gena)! And The Pottery Bug in Otis Orchards had a SISTER studio in Sandpoint, Idaho! Most recently, we concluded that our Otis Orchards open studio space just wasn’t big enough to handle our customer needs. So we searched and searched for a bigger and better space. We looked high and low, in the Valley and out. Several months went by and nothing seemed to fit «just right». Then, one fine day, the perfect location presented itself. The funny part is, its actual location! Our new, beautiful and functional studio is right across the street from our old studio! Come check it out and join our fun and friendly community in nearby Otis Orchards!

Meet the Business Owner

Jan K.

Business Owner

Being a «stay at home» Mom, had been my most recent job before I opened The Pottery Bug. Prior to having kiddos, I worked many years in business, marketing, advertising and technology, mostly in Seattle, WA and Boise, ID. When this opportunity presented itself, and I was able to still be with my kiddos and continue to home school them, it seemed like an ideal fit. My kiddos and family have painted more pottery than we have space for. But, truth be told, they mostly paint the pieces that are imperfect. We have an entire shelf of «mis-fit» pottery: lambs without ears, dragons without a wing, cups with missing handles and the like!

We are certainly the perfect definition of a family owned business. Most of our staff live within a 4 mile radius! The remodeling and move of our Otis Orchards studio was very much a family affair. Grandma, Grandpa, Auntie, Hubby, Kids and FRIENDS all pitched in! We couldn’t have done it alone! Thanks so much to all!
