I just used St. James movers to move from Westchester to NYC and they were great. A friend had recommended them and she was right. They were well priced and did a great job. Jim and his crew were very friendly and worked quickly and professionally.
I’ve moved several times with different companies and this time was the easiest.
I would recommend them and am happy to know them for future moves.

Surprised by some of the other peoples reviews because i did not have a similar experience. we originally hired Two Men and a Truck from Millwood and they did not show up on the day of the move and then told us to find a new moving company. And we had to close on our house in a few days. We made a call to St James and an hour later they called us back saying they will be there soon. They did a great job and were very quick. There was about 6 guys that came to help. They were friendly and very helpful. If we didn’t have them come to help us with the move we literally would have lost everything in our house because finding a mover that last minute during a holiday weekend is really impossible. We were recommended to use them by a friend, and so glad we did! They literally saved the day!

Among the moving companies I’ve hired, this is the worst. And also the most expensive.
I hired this company a few months ago to do a move within Westchester County.
They asked for more than 1K to do a one bedroom move which was not even full service. A company in Brooklyn actually offered to do it cheaper and for full service. But I decided to go with these guys because they were closer and I thought they would be less tired when doing the actual move. Boy was I wrong.
A guy named Jimmy at the company contacted me to deal with invoicing and scheduling. Ultimately, he never gave me the invoice and his guys failed to stick to the schedule he gave me. Not only were they late, but I had to call them multiple times just to check where they were before they showed up. Being late is fine, but being late by an hour without even a call is not professional, especially at the prices they charge.
They did manage to move my stuff from point A to B without breaking any of my stuff. But I have never seen movers take as many 10 minute breaks as these guys. Like once every half hour, it felt like.
But at the place I was moving in to, they made deep gashes in my wall and ceiling because they couldn’t be bothered to dismantle a bed that was too big to go up the stairs.
They just dumped the bed on me and left after that.
Avoid this company. Hire any other company that shows up as recommended on Unilocal.Even if they’re in Brooklyn and it feels far to you. You’ll be much happier that way. And you’ll have spent less.

We received three estimates. We hired St. James Movers (Darius) to move the partial contents of a house and partial contents of a townhouse from New York to Florida. Darius was a friend of my daughters.
Darius looked at the contents of the house but did not look at the townhouse, he only went on what my daughter had told him. Darius gave us an estimate of $ 6,000, which was $ 700 less than our other estimate.
Darius wanted CASH ($ 3,000 to start and $ 3,000 when he arrived in Florida). Darius started with the house which filled the 24′ truck approx. ¹⁄₃ of the way.
When he arrived at the townhouse he started loading the truck. When the truck was almost fully loaded, he realized that there was not enough room in the truck and he would need another truck. He wanted another $ 3,000. After negotiating, it would cost us another $ 2,500 and the other $ 3,000 would need to be paid before the movers left New York. Before the truck left New York, they were paid $ 6,000 and the $ 2,500 was to be paid when they arrived in Florida, which I would put on my credit card.
Instead of charging me $ 2,500 on my credit card, he put through $ 2, 975, which was not authorized.
I guess he felt he deserved a tip for damaging my wall unit, curio, workout bench, chairs, lamp shades, broken figurines plus breaking many, many other items too numerous to mention.
The furniture was either put together incorrectly or just left in the middle of the floor.
I contacted the company for the damages and for a refund for the amount overcharged. The owner’s son was uncooperative. So much for INSURED AND BONDED.
To top it all off, there was a lot of garbage (cigarette butts, empty water bottles and other papers) thrown on my property and in my garage.
This is the worst experience I have ever encountered.

While certainly not terrible, they were far from great. My previous movers were far more efficient and cost me less, but they were not available. So the upsides: they were available on short notice and came on time. However, because they charge by the hour rather than by weight, they sure took their sweet time on everything. Took them twice as long to pack the same amount of belongings as the other guys did a couple years earlier… Also, if there was nothing broken on my previous move, they broke my floor lamp and one of my vases got silver meshwork handle bent out of shape because it was carelessly tossed in with other stuff instead of wrapped up carefully by itself. The guys obviously did not care when I pointed it out to them, just told me to contact the owner, not even a «sorry» from them. So I ended up paying A LOT more than I expected based on various estimates and I am less than impressed with the level of service. Had I not been watching them like a harpy my furniture would not be put together properly either, since they were in too much hurry to get to their next assignment… while in the morning they were moving at the speed of a month-​dead snail.

I called them on short notice to move my daughter’s dorm room contents to her first apartment in NYC. Guys were efficient, polite and did as promised.
Company even dropped off a wardrobe box for me prior to the move.
I would use them again

I would definitely recommend St James. They were on time, careful, quick and very caring with my furniture. Everyone from the owner to each man, was extremely polite. I felt they went above and beyond what most movers do. I wouldn’t use anyone else !

I recently moved locally in Northern Westchester. I did lots of research and got three bids, all of which were within a few hundred dollars of each other. St James was the least expensive, and I really liked the owner, so I went with them. They were excellent — on time, fast, efficient, nice, polite and honest. They gave me a flat bid, which they adhered to (even though I lost my paperwork — they had a copy, which they showed me) and even threw in the wardrobe boxes for free (they usually rent or charge for them). They left the old house clean and picked up, and absolutely nothing was broken or damaged. They are a local outfit, which I wanted because I wanted to feel assured that the movers had been hired and vetted by the actual owner of the business. You hear so many horror stories about movers that I wanted to put in a good word and recommendation for these guys.

James and his crew did a fantastic job moving us. The guys were strong and efficient. They wrapped our items with care and we did not have any damage. Were able to maneuver several large heavy objects around tight turns. Very pleasant to work with and priced fairly. Would certainly use them again and would recommend them to a friend.
