Downunder Bar & Seafood House

We brought the boat over for a late snack on Sunday evening and had a great time. The bar upstairs overlooked the marina so we decided to sit there and try it out. We always had pretty good luck with the old place Bimini but the last few meals we had there were awful so no surprise it didn’t make it. Glad to see a new menu with some interesting items! We stuck with an old favorite to start, chicken wings. Very flavorful and steaming hot! They weren’t as crispy as I like them but enjoyed them anyway. We had a tough time deciding between the steak sanga and lamb burger. SO glad we picked the lamb burger as it was awesome! Perfectly cooked with a mint aioli and what seemed to be fresh cut fries. We will make this place a regular stop when on the boat. The service was also really good. Don’t think we got the bartenders name but he was very personable as was the server (his daughter I think?). Keep up the great food and service :)

Two other couples and ourselves decided to try out Downunder Bar and Seafood House for lunch during our bicycle ride. We often go to the Casey Key Fish House and wanted to try someplace different. While the website says that they open at 11:30, we arrived at 12:05 and the door was closed and the staff was inside. We were in the process of leaving when the server opened the door and invited us in telling us to be careful as the floor was wet and freshly mopped. It appears they were not ready for customers as they were clearly behind schedule with the door locked and the floors sopping wet.
We ordered fish tacos, lobster bisque and the steak sandwich along with beverages. The steak sandwich was recommended by the server who said it was her favorite and came with a tasty, although messy, sauce.
Our beverages were delivered and about 15 — 20 minutes later our soup arrived. I ordered a cup and the other couple split a bowl. The soup was lukewarm at best. We sent it back and new soup was delivered after 5 minutes. Sadly it was also lukewarm. The waitress took great pride that she had gotten us new soup and we didn’t have the heart to tell her the second batch was tepid.
After waiting an hour for our orders were delivered sans French fries that came with the steak sandwich. It appears, per the waitress, that the pilot light had gone out on the fryer and it would be another few minutes.
The fish tacos were excellent although not worth the hour wait to get them. Trying to keep positive, our table was joking among ourselves that perhaps they were out catching our fish with a rod and reel.
The person who ordered the steak sandwich asked about the sauce that was clearly missing and was told that «perhaps it had absorbed into the steak?»
What was intended to be a 45 minute to 1 hour lunch lasted well over an hour and a half.
The Manager, Nicholas, was aware of the length of time it was taking as he was at the bar folding napkins. We sat at the table next to the bar. However, it never seemed to occur to him to inquire to the staff about the holdup. He had given me a card with his name on it because I am part of a ladies dining social group that tries a different restaurant each month. We have 100 plus members and at each luncheon 20 – 40 ladies attend. It’s a good way to try various restaurants and the ladies often revisit the ones they like with their spouses or family.
I’m not writing this review to slam this restaurant. The food was tasty although our satisfaction was marred by; inadequate temperature of the soup, the sauce on the sandwich that mysteriously was absorbed by the steak and the one hour wait! I hope that management will investigate and work to correct the problems. Sadly as it stands now, I really can’t recommend this restaurant. Nor will I be suggesting it to our ladies group.
Again, the food was tasty and if prepared correctly (temperature, sauce, reasonable wait time), it would be worth a return visit.
I did like the little koala bears that they gave each of us!

Simply Amazing! We had it all from appetizers to dinner and drinks, all was fantastic. We certainly will be back for more! Thanks to the staff and owners for making us feel so welcome.
