Hightest is not your ordinary boarding kennel. We have acres of fields and ponds for your dog to enjoy, with a modern, climate controlled kennel facility. Whether you are going on a long vacation or just a few days, you can be confident your dog is being cared for well and given plenty of time to exercise and play. Our experienced staff is friendly and professionalandwillpersonally supervise your dog s care. We offer training courses in Obedience, Puppy Head Start & Gun Dog training.

History

Established in 1986.

Hightest Kennels began, of course, with dogs. In 1968, John Folsom acquired his first field trial dog «Rusty,» a Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Rusty won a Derby in 1969, and later that year John launched his career as trainer. In 1977, Debra Folsom acquired her first Labrador Retriever «Raja.» Raja won third place in a puppy stake and Debra was hooked. Debra bred her first Labrador litter in 1980.

In 1981, Debra saw John speak at a retriever field trial training seminar. She sent two dogs to John for advanced training, and both became Champions. In 1986 John and Debra were married. «Hightest,» like high octane gasoline, soon became symbolic of highly bred, high performance field retrievers.

Forty years since their first dogs, there is nowhere John and Debra would rather be. «There is nothing better than watching a well trained dog work,» Debra says, «except seeing the smile on the face of a customer with a fat Hightest puppy in their arms.»

Meet the Business Owner

Debra started breeding and training Labrador Retrievers for field competition in 1978. She has a three year degree in Animal Health Technology from St. Lawrence College in Ontario, Canada. Her professional background in animal husbandry and genetics helps her select the best breeding pairs and manage the whelping and rearing of every litter. Debra competed in AKC licenced Field Trials for several years and has handled many of the Hightest sires and dams in AKC Hunting Tests to achieve their Senior and Master Hunter titles. Debra’s passions are business, exercise and the outdoors. She is actively involved in her church and is founder of the Oroville Christian Business Alliance. Her husband John supervises the training process and development of every dog. Each dog must meet John’s rigorous standards to advance in the gun dog program. John enjoys bird shooting, big game hunting, fishing and racing his Miata.
