Once Upon A Child

Went in to sell some items and of course ended up buying some great things as well. Excellent store and very friendly staff.

Always takes forever. Come in at opening and still an hour and a half wait. Which is fine, if they would keep up with what they say. She told me when I dropped my things off that it shouldn’t take that long because I just brought in equipment and that they look at equipment first. I come back in and they still haven’t looked at it yet and they tell me that two people are ahead of me and what are they doing? Checking clothing instead my «equipment». This place is a great business and I appreciate it I just wish they would get their times right.

I was in this store on Monday, excited to see their new renovated store… I was happy to see it looked slightly less cluttered but that was all that changed. The employees are still rude, and the racks of clothing still very cluttered. I was not even able to purchase pj’s for my baby b/​c the rack of pajamas was so jam packed i couldn’t look at the clothes without having to take several items off the rack at a time. At checkout I had my newborn daughter in her stroller and a stack of clothing in my hands, I didn’t even get an acknowledgment from a staff member while waiting to check out. Finally I had to ask someone where I could pay, one of the girls who could barely stand to look up from her conversation with another co worker, directed to a male employee. Although he was organizing clothes he did stop to help me. I’m not sure if he was new, but he had to keep asking female co workers to help him with adding discounts and adding on certain items. I got 10 onesies from their back wall where they were 10 for $ 10.00 @ the register I was told 2 of them didn’t count and i would need to go get other to get the discount. This was very frustrating as my daughter was still upset and what should have been a quick transaction was taking forever. Finally all checked out only to realize i wasn’t given the bows i had paid for and had to go back for them. I don’t think I will ever return to this location, their staff really needs a course in customer service.

It is not often that I get angry when dealing with hiccups in customer service, but today I decided to get a head start on spring cleaning, and made a trip up to OUAC. Needless to say, it will be my last.
I have been buying and selling from this establishment for four years now, not because I need the money or the cheap clothes, but because I like reducing my carbon footprint, and most of our children’s clothes, toys, and gear are only lightly used before they are outgrown. Reduce, reuse, recycle… blah blah blah. It makes me feel good.
I came in with two bags of clothing and my 15 month daughter strapped to my back. The girl behind the counter quoted me one hour and told me I could stay or go. I opted to stay, perusing the aisles for 45 minutes before my little one started getting squirmy. I couldn’t help but notice that there was literally no sense of urgency from the three girls behind the counter. They chatted about boyfriends, husbands, kids, even stopping to hold up items and ask if they should get this or that for their son or daughter. I get it; work is better when you can engage socially with your coworkers, but the piles of bags were piling on up, and NO ONE was being added to the «completed» list.
I decided to go ahead and pay for my findings and grab a bite to eat, since I still had about 15 minutes left on my quoted wait time. I came back 40 minutes later (putting me right around an hour and a half), only to be told that it would be at least another 45 minutes as she was going through my bag. When I expressed that I was quoted an hour, I basically just got a shrug. No apology. Another girl offered an explanation «that more people had arrived after me, making the wait time longer,» which makes absolutely no sense, as that would affect future wait times, but not the ones before them.
I understand that stuff happens; I work in the restaurant business, but I know that if you were asked to wait more than twice your quoted wait time for a table or your meal, you would be compensated appropriately for the inconvenience. With no apology or even suitable explanation, I’m going to have to find time this afternoon to drive out of my way AGAIN for what is likely to be less money than the gas back and forth is costing me.
Do yourself a favor: donate your lightly used items. It’s better for your stress level, and it’s good for your soul.

Definitely not ever going into this store again.
I walked in to sell something, stood there near the «Sell Your Items Here» sign (you can’t stand at the counter under the sign because they have too many things cluttering up the floor) and waited. And waited. I was never acknowledged by any employee. Two employees were working sorting through bags of clothes. Finally after about 10 – 15 minutes of absolutely nothing, I left.
Before I left I overheard someone saying that you have to leave the items for them to check them out and then you have to be back in the store by 5pm to find out whether or not they will buy your items. Complete waste of time. After a waste of 10 – 15 minutes I was definitely not returning at 5 (or ever again) to be told yes or no. You’re better off selling on craigslist or just donating stuff at Goodwill (which I did after I left). Don’t waste your time (or your money) here. Never again.
Also, when I got to the parking lot, I heard another customer saying to her friends, «An hour and half for nothing. I could have been at work!» So there you go. Don’t bother with this place. I sure won’t again.

I used to love this place. The staff seems to have changed or just tired of working there. The woman who seems to run it doesn’t know what customer service means. It’s a decent place to find baby or toddler items at a discounted price but forget trying to sell back things. I’ve stopped in three times to sell items and told a minimum of three hour wait. They won’t allow you to drop off and come back the next day to see what price they will offer or even if they will take your items. They also won’t allow you to set an appointment. I’m done with this place.

Great used stuff. It’s all pretty clean and lots to select from. And the people/​service could not be warmer.

The clothes here are reasonable. The toys are way too expensive. I like to shop here but selling here sucks because they give you like .50 cents or $ 1 for nice stuff. This place makes a killin!

I love Once Upon a Child, and I have to say I’m actually kind of sad that my older kids have outgrown it. I have saved so much money shopping here! Seriously, kids grow so fast buying everything brand new isn’t always practical.
Traditionally I clean out our closets at the end of summer and haul everything that has survived the past year to Once Upon a Child. Whatever they don’t buy I donate to Goodwill. It works out great. I make some extra spending money that I put towards clothes for the new school year.
Last week it came to my attention that my 8-​year old had grown again. Oh dear. Poor thing had no pants that fit. All of a sudden. (How does this happen???)
So, we ran over to Once Upon a Child. I was excited because I had my frequent shopper card all filled, which is good for 15% off your purchase. We found a bunch of great jeans (all brand names like Justice and Abercrombie). When I went to check out I found out that they were running a 20% off storewide sale! Whoo-​hoo! So I kept my coupon for next time and saved more than I expected. I bought 3 pairs of jeans, 2 pairs of jean shorts, and 2 cute tops for around $ 30. Yeah, that would have been the price of one pair of jeans new from Justice.
I tell all of my friends with kids to check out this store. The selection is great and the items they sell are always in great or even new condition. And if you’re not crazy about buying used stuff you can earn some quick cash from all of the things your kids outgrew or never used. It’s awesome!

I found this place early in my pregnancy and love the whole idea of this store especially for parents who are in a budget and can’t spend or don’t want to spend a fortune on baby clothes for the simple fact that they grow out if them so fast that there is no point in it. I love being able to spend 20 and walk out with four full outfits for my soon to be little girl. I love also you can find a lot of name brands in this shop I love finding Disney dresses and such. I also like the rewards stamp promotion for frequent shoppers that they do. Also the idea of being able to take clothes or other baby things that you no longer use you can trade in for cash or more child related items as your child grows to the next stage. It has become a convenient store for us going through preparing for our little girl and the various locations also help too! Love this store!

Um, I think this place sucks. It smells bad. The staff are not familiar with a wide range of brands of children’s clothing and their selection is large, but uninteresting. The one bright point is the selection of books. I found some real gems for $ 1.00 or so. They offered me $ 2 for a an unworn, originally $ 45 Ralph Lauren (grandma gift, just not my style, folks) boys shirt. What? I could do better on ebay for selling and would rather get clearance items at a store than shop here again. Except for books.

I love this place! Gently used clothing is perfect. $ 1 clothing is even more perfect. $ 70 cradle and swing was in perfect condition! $ 50 wood organizer will make my life stress free. I wish this place was in west palm beach. Please someone open one there. I don’t have $ 75,000 in assets!

I love this place & only wish I’d found it before I had my baby. There is such a great range & selection of gently used clothing for ridiculously low prices. Then, there are all the other treasures: strollers, toys, games, books, you name it. It is now the first place I shop for anything for my child before looking online or in a new retail store.
I’ve been to other Once Upon A Child stores (out of state) and they’re inventory was not cleaned as well or polished before putting out for sale, whereas this store always puts items out in good condition. Yes, it can be crowded — both with shoppers & items crammed onto the racks and that’s a good thing, b/​c it means the store accepts quite a bit of items from those wishing to consign & avoid the frustration of trying to sell items online. I’ve never had a bad experience w/​the staff & have nothing but good things to say about them. Don’t miss the awesome sales that occur periodically throughout the year!

I absolutely love Once Upon A Child. I visit at least once every 2 weeks. I have gotten some amazing deals. It is definitely crowded so going without your children is a lot more enjoyable. All of my daughters clothes and toys that were not gifts are from here.
If you need any assistance don’t hesitate to ask, the employees are more than willing to help you out.

Won’t be back!’ after moving out of the area for a year, I returned to the once clean and organized Once Upon a Child on East Colonial, only to be horrified, the minute you walk in you are greeted with Filfthy carpets, and a play area I wouldn’t let my dog stay in. dirty toys was putting it nicely. still, I searched the store, in hopes to find those great, Gently used clothes I usedto buy in bulk. every item that I could find in my sons size (sizes were all mixed up), were either dirty, stained or worn. A shame, As a small business owner myself, it seems that all pride and care in ownership is gone. Hopefully they clean themselves up, before too may other customers walk out their door!

I visited Once Upon a Child for the first time last week, on a mission to sell a new stroller that my uncle gave me. I am currently expecting my first child (a boy), and received this new pink stroller that my uncle some how acquired (who knows how) without a box. My husband and I accepted the stroller, and decided that we would go ahead and sell the stroller, and eventually acquire a more gender neutral stroller.
We walked into the store, filled out a form, and waited about 15 minutes to have the Graco stroller evaluated. While we were waiting, we walked around the store, and checked out their goods. The store was super clean, and did not have the usual thrift shop smell I associate with used clothes and toys. Furniture and strollers they had on display were in really good used condition or almost new. They also had some really pricey brands of strollers and furniture, including a few items from Peg-​Perego at a significantly lower cost than what you would find at Babies R Us.
The store also had tons of clothes, all divided by gender, color, style (formal, winter, shorts, etc), and size. Many of the clothing items (particularly the baby stuff) was brand new and unworn, with the original tags still attached. Used items all looked to be in good condition, with no fading, stains, or damage. They also had toys, new and used, as well as DVDs, and books (for parents and adults).
However, this is the sort of place that you will need to scope out often, as merchandise moves quickly. While we were waiting around one gentleman sold an electric sports car toy (it looked like a mini Ferrari that a could enter and drive around the yard). and another guy who had come in to sell some baby furniture, bought itwhile he was waiting. The employees did not even have time to tag it! So the moral of the story is check this place out often, and if you’re looking for a specific item call ahead, and see if they can set it aside.
As for the Graco stroller we were trying to sell they looked up the current retail value, and estimated it as 50 $, they then offered us 20 $ cash. We took it, as our goal was to get rid of the the stroller.
Either way I think I will definetly be checking this store out in the future, and definetly return periodically to sell items as well.

My family and I are frequent customers to UAOC and was surprised to have a negative experience at this location. They sold us a baby walker that was extremely dirty and had a slight tear on the ridge of the seat, but nothing to be concerned about. It was obvious wear-​n-​tear. But when we decided to sell it back after less than a week (we were visitors to Orlando), they claimed that we made the tear and could not re-​sell the item. Had no choice, but to leave the item there. I wouldn’t be surprised if they actually decided to put it on the floor for sale again. They obviously don’t have a clear agreement amongst their employees on what can be re-​sold.

this is a great place to recycle children’s clothes and baby items. (and to find great deals on the same) They are very picky and will only take new/​gently used and very clean items. They don’t take anything stained or that looks worn. (Don’t try to bring in a dirty child’s seat or swing – clean it first!) However, I am fine with that since they are also reselling. You can bring a bin in and drop it off with your information, then they will call you with a price. You then go in and get your credit or cash and take what they are not interested in. My first stop is here before I donate to Goodwill.

Wow, I have no idea why this place has such bad reviews. I work next door & make it in this place weekly. I’ve never once had a bad experience. I’m always in here buying something! I feel like those other reviews are fake… staff is always friendly & immediately greets you. For a «thrift store», this is the cleanest one I’ve ever been to, & isn’t it a good thing your kids can play with the toys while you shop? Yes it is. I like that they also sell NEW Melissa & Doug toys. My favorite part of coming here is the books. My 5 year old loves to read & I love being able to bring her here & literally let her pick out all the books she wants, while spending $ 1-​$ 2 each book. & their all always good, up to date kids reads. They always have a good selection of DVDs, & always overstocked on toys. I even scored some leapster games once. This place is a shopaholic mama’s dream come true.

This place looks more like a ghetto daycare inside. They let children pull toys out and just play with them in the middle of the floor. Nevermind the customers with strollers trying to browse. Found ladies very unhelpful… I am 6 months pregnant and was bringing in a very heavy toy, along with my one year old and instead of helping me or even greeting me as I got through the door they looked at me and went back to their business. One lady even had the nerve to squeeze between me and the place she was trying to get to, instead of offering to help me! When I finally interrupted their 3 way conversation for help, the lady was comparing how wide a pair of jeans were as I’m standing there still WAITING for her to get started! I will never go to this store again, to buy or sell!
