History
Established in 1979.
Murphy Lighting Systems was founded in 1979 as Murphy Associates, a representative specialist company. Our expertise is performance lighting, staging and rigging systems; and architectural lighting control systems.
During our first 17 years, we specified, furnished and supported systems for theaters, television & motion picture studios, schools, churches, theme parks, hotels, and conference and convention centers in the southeastern United States and the Caribbean.
We incorporated in 1991 and changed our name to Murphy Lighting Systems to better convey what we do as a company. In 1996 we established our Service Center to commission systems and to provide the best service possible.
In 1997, we changed direction to better serve the needs of our clients as systems integrators. The digital era has given our industry many specialty products which need to be incorporated and integrated into the lighting and rigging systems.

Meet the Business Owner
Chris M.
Business Owner
Chris has a Bachelor of Science in Radio and Television and a minor in Journalism from San Diego State University. After working in the publishing business, he moved to Central Florida to try the family business for «one year» — in 1988. Running sales for Central and South Florida, Chris specified, sold and managed many projects, including major convention centers, hotel ballrooms, themed rides and attractions, theaters, television studios, schools and houses of worship. Chris purchased the company in 2003 and opened an office in California in 2004. He is a member of IESNA, TEA and PLASA and has won several awards, including a TEA award for the Revenge of the Mummy attraction at Universal Orlando in 2004. He continues to grow Murphy Lighting while ensuring that the company maintains the quality for which it is known. Chris plays guitar and bagpipes and also enjoys reading, boating and enjoying his free time with his wife and two children and the family’s many friends.
