OHMYGOSH. I am so glad I don’t know where to find this place every day because I already have a few pounds to lose. I had a peanut butter cookie/banana ice cream combo(my favorite –very sophisticated– flavor profile) and it was EVERYTHING. Here is what makes it great: cookies are fresh(soft, chewy… perfect), ice cream is creamy, flavors are awesome. Here is what makes them dangerous: servings are ginormous. My husband told me he was going to make love to his. Awkward? Yes. Truth-telling? Yep.

We left the house in search of gourmet sweet treats. Unilocal led us to, of all things, a roving food truck that purveyed homemade ice cream sandwiches. Home freaking run. Does Unilocal have a food truck tracker now? Because I’mma need that right about now. These folks were a duo. The chef makes the cookies and the ice cream himself. If you’re feeling, well, vanilla, there’s a traditional vanilla on chocolate cookie sandwich. Otherwise there are usually four or so other flavors which are sent from heaven. Heaven, I say.

The flavors that this truck puts out are so creative its hard not to give it a try. I’m not a big ice cream kind of person, as you’ll never find a bin in my freezer, but when I’m near this truck I can’t help myself. They are constantly coming up with new flavors and combinations, which is very noble, considering many places will stick with whats popular and go with the safe bet. And for those of you still in denial, SIZEDOESMATTER. These bad boys got some girth and won’t let you down.

Lavender. Ricotta. Candied Kumquat. DIDYOUJUSTREADTHOSEINGREDIENTS?! That was my first experience with the Midnight Sun Ice Cream Sandwich Co. I want to live in this truck. I want it to drive down my street in College Park and play the ice cream truck jingle so I can run to it like a giddy eight year old and give them all my money. My only complaint is that I never know where this truck is… maybe that’s a good thing for my waistline. They show up at Tasty Tuesdays on occasion, and now I am following their Instagram account to hopefully stalk them more places around town. If you see this truck, but down your food and save room because you are going to want to check this very large and amazing ice cream sandwiches out.

4 Stars for a killer local ice cream sandwich food truck that gets it right! I found myself drawn to this truck at a recent Tasty Tuesday(food truck night in the Milk District). Most of the other trucks are all about the savory and after all that salt me and my fella were craving that icy sweet goodness that can only come from an ice cream sandwich. But still– I didn’t want to get my hopes up. I’d been burned before by enticing-looking sandwiches that were really what seemed like store-bought ice cream between to slabs of concrete. I’d been brought up on those hideously fake ice cream sandwiches with the choc chip cookies that were chewy and soft despite having been flash frozen and kept in a freezer for months. Although I don’t require that level of(questionably attained) softness in the outer cookies of an ice cream sandwiches, I expect them to be edible without a knife. Luckily I was able to order their classic vanilla bean ice cream with a dark chocolate cookies before it ran out(there were audible gasps when she came out to erase those from the chalkboard menu). First thing to note is that these are definitely sharing size. The dessert is served in a disposable bowl and you can grab a couple of plastic spoons. Word to the wise– take more napkins then you think you’ll need. It was now time for the ultimate test: Could I break the cookie with my spoon to create the perfect bite? Victory! Angels sang and I laughed maniacally! Though is wasn’t the easiest and I don’t think one could actually eat it like a sandwich, it got the job done. Taste-wise this is a solid ice cream sandwich. The ice cream is very sweet and rich but it is balanced with the chocolate cookie, which is bordering on overly salty(I’m a salt-lover so that’s not necessarily a bad thing). All-in-all I was satisfied though I’ll admit it sat heavy in my stomach on the walk back home and it’s more of a once in a while type dessert. Go on, get yourself over to the Milk District and get yourself one of their crazier flavors. I know I’ll be more adventurous now that I am confident in their mastery of the basics!

My wife and I ran into this amazing truck while walking down Virginia Ave after a show at the Venue. All I can say is… WOW! This little truck had the best ice cream sandwich I’ve ever had. I had the banana ice cream with the cashew butter cookie and it was phenomenal! I can’t wait to find the truck again to try another one of the flavors they make!

Probably the best ice cream sandwhich I have ever had. I got the chocolate chip with vanilla bean and my friend got a coffee and double chocolate chip and both were incredible. We will be going back to see them. You should do the same.

I’ve been to this dessert food truck twice and I have I say they are scooping up some fine homemade ice cream. Both times I have had the original vanilla bean ice cream with the dark chocolate cookie sandwich. The ice cream is super rich and smooth. The ingredients are all locally sourced which is cool. So back to the dark chocolate cookies, they are not super sweet, even a bit salty and heavy on the cocoa which pairs wonderfully with the sweet vanilla ice cream. The cookie texture is soft yet chewy, just what you need to keep the sandwich from falling apart. There are more exotic flavors of ice cream, like butterscotch or cantaloupe available, but vanilla is my thing here. Oh and the ice cream sandwiches are large enough to share, but why would you even want to? If you see this cute little food truck make a spontaneous stop for it.
